Hey guys just wanted to ask a few people what they think some of the best pvp mmorpg's out there are and why they think these mmo's are the best when it comes to pvp.
Games I Play:
Quake Live Track Mania Nations Forever Runes of Magic
If you like a harsh player run enviroment based in a fantasy world, Shadowbane, hands down.
If you like space combat, EVE Online, hands down.
Everything else is watered down crap full of combat restrictions. If I swing an axe at you, it should chop off your head, not say "you can not attack this person!".
The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.
Ultima online (hardcore pvp), Dark age of camelot, EVE online, WOW, World war 2 online. Linage 1 and 2.
I personally would have to go for world of warcraft. Because its a system that works lol , not many bugs and the classes are relatively balanced and each have their roles to play. The actual flow of combat leaves alot to be desired though.
Best pvp i ever had would have to be in SWG pre-9 , brialliant in my opinion. Now SWG sucks ass.
Dark age of camelot for cool sieges, EVE online for epic large scale ecomomic and political space assaults, Linage 1 and 2 for large scale sieges again, Ultima online for you hardcore pvpers, and World war 2 online just because ....yeh.
Everyone whos crazy about pvp should check out "Darkfall" (if it ever comes out)
If a game company would make a fantasy MMO thats built like EVE online, it would beat WoW in subscribers, hands down.
Open combat works, EVE is proof of concept. It has a very healthy amount of subsribers for a game that has you stuck in a ship. Imagine if you could walk around with an axe!

How would that beat WoW in subscribers? as most modern pay to play MMO's have more subscribers then EVE, I think its pretty clear most people aren't intrested in EVE's ways.

He's right, although the game is popular with most of it's die-hard subscribers it's population compared to some of the other top MMOs is petite. Although it may just be that Sci-Fi MMOs are an aquired taste I can't see making an EVE style fantasy game improving anything, same book different cover.

Whichever one that has no members with a broken capslock.

EVE has no 10 years of good games backing them up. Also, its a SPACE game, your locked into a spaceship, you cant walk around, you cant even go to the speeches on planet surfaces, as the EVE lore states. Yet, with all that, it has a great playerbase with hundreds of thousands of people enjoying there OPEN COMBAT game.
Millions of people were fans of the Warcraft games, I know im one of them, and making WoW drew in this vast amount of players, plus the battle.net players, plus the starcraft/diablo players. Its easy when you have a backing like that, even if you publish Questcraft and delete the War side of the Warcraft concept. I bet they consider me a "subsriber", just because I bought the game and never activated my account after the free month of hell.

The thing about EvE is their is real loss. Your ship goes pop you lose you stuff, oh and you can lose your escape pod too. How ever this it what adds the "thrill" factor to the PvP in the game the little voice in the back of your mind screeming at you not to lose you ship, that moment of panic you you get ambushed, or joy of knoing you just distroyed your enimy and he won't be back any time soon.

EVE is too hardcore for the common gamer. EVE got too slow progression for the common gamer. EVE isn't a bad game, it's just a niche market game - Making it fantasy, would change nothing. People would still whine, if they got killed and got all their items looted.

I agree that it wouldn't beat WoW in subscribers, but where did you get that idea that there are more subscribers in "most" MMOs than in EVE? EVE's subscriber base is nothing to laugh at and I don't think you realize what the subscriber bases of other games really are.
Yeah... WoW has an insane amount of players, but how many servers do they have? Over 200 and I can't even played with my friend in England, how lame is that? But, anyway.... Just because WoW has an insane amoutn of subscribers why do you think that other MMOs do? SWG's top subscriber base was only 250,000 where as the last time I checked before EVE was released in China it has a 150,000 subscriber base.

EVE Online/Shadowbane for now.
Darkfall for later.
There's no such thing as griefing in EVE. The GMs let you do anything you want as long as it isn't an exploit of game mechanics...including fraud

Open ended PvP, great clan politics, 'nuff said.
