Just a little help please

Hello evryone!

I have, for the last 4 or 5 years played Ultima Online mainly for the PvP aspect. Also played a little WoW on and off again mainly for the PvP aspect.

With UO i loved the pvp but now its becoming who has the more gold to buy the items rather then who has the better skill to kill.

With WoW i thought the pvp was ok at best because its almost the same as uo, but in wow its who puts the most hours per week into playing.

I guess the what iam asking is i would like some help picking out a game that has some or all of the following features:

1) A great skill based pvp mmo or mmofps. ( i like the items in mmo's but just now how the items make the mmo)

2) An mmo that has a great community and economic system that isnt out of wack.

3) An mmo that has a decent amount of players. (so iam not running around killing air)

If you are into an MMOFPS I would recommend Planetside.

It has a free trial to rank 20, and some people seem to enjoy it. The servers are well populated, and team based tower runs are very fun.

Planetside was great when I played it, aside from a few horrible technical issues. That was a long time ago, though, and some things have been added (BFR's) which supposedly have a negative effect on gameplay. Player population is also supposedly way down in that game.

Guild Wars is a great game. It's not a traditional MMORPG, in that getting to level 20 (max level) takes no effort. Also, it's not item-centric. You can get the equivalent of almost any rare weapon by simply getting a collector (easily obtained) item and adding mods to it. It's also similarly easy to get max armor. GW also offers a huge amount of skill customization options for your character as well as the option to change your build on the fly. That said, it is not PVP in the same sense as other MMO's. Other MMO's have a persistent environment where PVP can occur or not occur at any time. PVP in GW happens in the form of small instances formed specifically for PVP battles in which teams are basically placed within relatively close proximity of each other and fight each other. So, if you need that random element of doing some PvM task and wondering whether somebody will come along and fight you, that doesn't happen in GW at all.

Some people will probably mention EVE and Shadowbane. These games cater to very specific audiences. EVE is a wonderful game if you like the fact that it's an open pvp space sim MMORPG which requires a fairly heavy time investment and has a steeper learning curve than your average MMORPG. If you don't have a huge amount of patience for MMORPG's, I'd argue that EVE is not for you. As far as Shadowbane, I'll let others speak for it.

I think its best if you wait for Age of Conan, as it seems to have a lot of what you ask for.
it will be released in 2007. to give you a small preview
Age of Conan E3 gameplay movie

It won't get more playerskill based then that

Have to agree with Game on this.  I really wasn't excited about any of the MMO's coming out.   At least till someone showed me a Age of Conan movie.  After reading up on it though.  I'm definately interested in it now.  Still waiting for WoW:BC expansion to lol

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

    Thank you.

I checked out the video and it blew me away, amazing graphics, duel head decaps and stunning combat motions and not to mention first person archery.

You should have never told me about it because i honestly cant wait.

But thanks for showing it to me because i might have skipped over it.

I guess for the time being ill try planetside or go back and make Unreal tounament 2004 my main until UT 2007 hits shelfs and play that until AOC.

i put my faith in warhammer online for pvp. Why?

because mythic is making it and they made dark ages of camelot which after 5 years still has the best pvp in a mmorpg.

I'd honestly say eq2 on a pvp server may be a good option for ya now..  WoW is similar to eq2...

And is anyone else bugged by people who suggest games that are coming out in a year or 2... they make these posts to find a game to play now...not a year from now.

Darkfall might be worth your attention. But AOC & WAR also look good. Maybe even TcoS.
