Lied to, robbed and kicked in the gonads but I just keep coming back for more :-/

Well not no more .............

I've decided this afternoon to not renew my Horizons subscription. Massive shame because when I do get fifteen minutes of play I quite enjoy myself.

I spend more time staring at a login screen praying that "it'll work this time" than I do playing the game.

This isn't particularly directed at Horizons but at MMORPGs in general.

ADSL isn't available in my area .... YET. So I'm forced to play with a polly-wolly-crappy 56k modem.

That, I suspect is the source of my problems.

If game packaging indicates that the game is playable with a 56k modem, even if it isn't listed under the recommended hardware, then it should indeed be playable a 56k modem. It might take longer to login and zone and I expect some lag in heavily populated areas. Won't I don't expect is to crash six times in an hour and fail to login at least five times on each attempt. Especially when the server status is reported to be "Very Healthy" and the population is "Low".

So Mr. Publisher. Don't put that crap on your packaging., ya bastard.

LOL. Plenty of people in my guild play on a modem.

But here's a tip: there's a transport_client_config.ini file in your main directory. Inside this file is a setting, with comment:

;; Maxium output of the PT in bytes/second
;; Includes 20 bytes of IP header, 8 bytes of UDP header, 8 bytes packet header
;; and 8 bytes of message header.
    ;; Use 31250 to simulate a 300K bits/sec "fast" internet connection
    MaxOutputRate=31250

I suggest you set this settingto about 5600 (or whatever you want). Try again afterward. One person who was having problems with modems experienced relief after resetting this.

Thanks very much for the advice.

I'll give that a try when I get home tonight.

What type of computer is that for, and where is that file located?  I too have the same problem of a slow internet connection and no way of getting broadband right now, but hopefully now.  Until then i would like to try this but i can't find that file.

This is specifically for the game Horizons.
