Losing faith in the MMO genre

How many people here have trouble playing an MMO game knowing that other fellow players are using thier credit card and paypal accounts to get to the top as quickly as possible while your working your a$$ off to get to the top.

How many people are sick of the lack of reason for social interaction between players in MMO games? Most mmo games are basically every man for themselves. SURE you got guilds. But you always want to be the best in your guild. PLus these guilds don't encourage social interaction with other players at all. Your just a group of guys who isolate themselves on Teamspeak from the rest of the game so you can get that great loot.

How many people are sick of how most MMO's revolve around ITEMS. You gotta get that great item so you can get the next best item 5 lvls from now. The end game revovles around items. The goal of the MMO is to have the best items.

Nobody is bothering to think outside the box anymore. These are just a few of the reasons why im not playing an MMO game right now. But don't get me wrong. I WANT TO enjoy a good MMO game. Otherwise I wouldn't be here visiting every week hoping I find something that restores my hope in this genre.

And incase your wondering why I posted this. It's because I just read about how Codemasters was introducing Payplus into archlord. Such sad, sad news.

I'm getting sick of hearing from people who don't have enough imagination to discover all the things they say are "missing" from games. If they're not fun, stop playing them.

There are MMOs out right now that fit every aspect of your requirements for a good game, you don't seem to truly care enough to actually go out and find them. Don't complain about there not being anything out there for you if you havn't covered all your bases. There is an entire list of games on this forum, if you looked through about 1/4 of them you could find something you would like, guaranteed.

He talks like a WOW player...where everyone cares for themselves since the gameplay is pretty much for solo...and everyone in the guild don't even meet each other lol...

Obivously he never tried a game where teamwork is the most important thing.

Don't lose faith, there are a multitude of mmos around, like what the above posters were meaning, albeit perhaps in a rude way.

I don't let people that are buying things on ebay bother me but I prefer sandbox style MMOs so there isn't an end game or top level that is important to rush to. I'll take my time and get skills or levels as I'm having fun. Although if a game was to have buying levels, content and items built into it by the company then there is no way I'd touch the game.

The lack of social interacion with guilds isn't something I'd noticed but again it might just be my taste in guilds again. I've always prefered the small more family like guilds and they are still around.

I do hate the focus on items and the grind to get them but thankfully there are some MMOs out there that don't focus on it. Not many compared to the amount that focus on it but some at least.

Upcoming MMOs all do seem to be in the same old same old loot, level, grind mold with minor little differeances to try and set them apart. There are so many of them that they can't all do well so after a few crash we might see developers trying something new or different again.

Planetside and Guild Wars aren't really anything like what you've described. Planetside has zero itemization, and with half a brain in Guild Wars, you can easily acquire a better weapon than most of the green (rare) weapons. Your weapons might look crappy, but they would be the same or better (better meaning more suited to your build) in terms of stats. Armor is even more easy to get your hands on in Guild Wars; you just pay a premium for the better-looking stuff. Then there's City of Heroes/Villains, with zero itemization and huge rewards for teamplay. You level very quickly in a team and the equivalent of items (enhancements) are very easily bought in a store. The only reason they have the enhancement system is to let you further customize how your powers work (more accuracy vs more damage, etc).

There are about a half-dozen more games with an equal lack of itemization, but those aren't really worth mentioning. As for Archlord, it's a Korean mmorpg being re-released in the US market. You usually don't get anything amazing out of those re-releases, especially when you have a non-Korean company running the re-release simply to make a quick buck without risking money on development costs. Admittedly, Archlord will be way better than something like say . . RYL, but I'm not expecting anything great.

Im going to created a game called IGETITALL Online. The game will have 100 levels, all which you can advance forward and backward to anytime in the game. You have access to all areas of the game and can queue up MOBs of any level/type anywhere you want. There will be boats, ships, canoes, horses, elephants, all mountable. There will be 80 races, and over 100 different classes with no skill restriction or race restriction on any skills or items. There will be no PvP because I dont want to hear people crying. There will be unlimited land for player houses and shops. And all items are stackable, even player houses, boats, ships, etc....

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
