Btw for you flamers, don't bitch to me about me not knowing about Pre-CU, I've played since Dec. '03. Seriously, Pre-CU was too unbalanced but they didn't have to scrap the whole game and make a new one. So if you guys ever get tired of all the boring Fantasy MMO's out there with hardly any true PvP, try out Galaxies again. (They re-implemented auto-aim too, for those of you who aren't Trolls still paying on accounts.)

Excuse my topic swinging, very late here. Sorry.

Man the devs are desperate to get people back lately.

I will let all of you fill in the chars from this story with chars from the saga that is SWG....

As I'm sitting here reading all this frustration with how SWG is now as compared to what it was, I'm surprised why more of the people here aren't playing Eve Online. It's an extremely in depthsci-fi MMOG run by a small company from devs who actually care and play the game themselves. Of course all you see is a spaceship and don't have an avatar running around. Yet it is probably the best PvP MMOG around atm. It's the only game I know where the subscription numbers have  steadily risen.

Why am I here? Trying out other MMOG's for variety. I picked up the set of all access games and wanted to try them out. My first impression with SWG hasn't been good. The trial is bug ridden and not very good. Upgraded the game to the starter kit and now I'm feeling like the game is a WoW clone (get 4 flit feathers and 7 lizard scales--or something like that) which is disappoiting. If I wanted this style of play, I'd go back and play WoW. But again, I haven't given the game enough time to give it an honest assessment yet.

I think Eve Online is a viable alternative if you are into spaceflight.  Being a former Earth and Beyond player myself I really wanted to like Eve, but in the end the absence of any type of ground game kinda sealed it for me.  I spent most of my time in SWG as a bounty hunter and chasing marks around planets, stalking them, anticipating their moves and finally getting into a pitched battle with them in a crowded starport was the most fun I have ever had in any game.  In fairness to Eve I probably didn't try it long enough, but it just felt too one dimensional to me since it was only about space travel.

Same here.  For me, it all comes down to immersion, and I find it very difficult to connect with being a spaceship (technically a pod inside a spaceship).

While it was a nice change of pace, I will not be spending my money on it because of the lack of a ground game.

Off topic, but I just gotta comment...

I was helping a guildmate find some falumpasets for the trial and was using my jedi.  I saw a dot approaching, and prepared for a BH attack.  Must have been a respec BH, because when he got close he stored his speeder.  I then took off and while running was able to call up a speeder and hop on before he could attack.

I then traveled to 3 player towns on Naboo leading him on a nice chase.  Closed in on a shuttleport that I already had a ticket for then hopped to a starport.  Jumped into my ship then went to another planet.  I used the /who feature to wait for him to land then I jumped to another planet.  I kept this up for 30 minutes to an hour before I finally decided to go home.

I thought that was immensely fun.

I tried Eve for a while....I found the graphics very impressive... and the combat wasn't too shabby either.  For me, it fell into that Terminus hole, you know, the 'mine to get a better mining ship loop' . I'm sure the corporation wars are probably pretty cool to be a part of, as I didn't stay in the game long enough to really get into that.

I'm at the point now where I expect more from mmo's. In my opinion, they should be alot farther along the evolutionary scale than where they are now. Eve is not much different to me than Freelancer or Terminus no matter how good it looks, and I've been there, done that, don't feel like doing it again.  It is, however, a good core design that could evolve into something magnificent if they have the right minds steering it along.

I'll be glad when the WoW/clone rage finally dies down...Hoping that we'll begin to see some real innovations arise...something really worth playing hopefully.
