PC gamers versus console gamers

If say a whole bunch of fps's came out which enabled cross play between pc and the console, who would win the overall fight.

Please leave a reason for your answer.

I'd say pc, as pc gamers have been around for a much longer time and they seem to be more serious about playing, whereas there are more 'casual' gamers on consoles.

I voted console for FPS. The reasopn is, every good FPS for a PC that comes out is short lived thanks to Bots and coders who make the fps miserable for a regular player that doesnt cheat! Good example Tribes<Vengeance> Delta Force, Rainbow 6, And Americas Army. All are infested with aimbots, speed hacks, ghosting.. Makes the game miserable for a refular player. Console systems have more control over such. Thus are better for FPS!

im not asking whihc is better to play on, im asking which players do you think would be highest ranked, e.g. more pc/console players in top 100

PC all the way.  Im about to sleep and too tired to type out why, but there's a nice thread over at the Huxley forums explaining why basically PC will wipe the floor with console in that game when it comes out.

The only inherent advantage I see consoles having over PCs in a cross-platform FPS showdown is that they can outzerg the PC users ten times over.  Which is a pretty good advantage if you think about it

I voted for PC.... we have more game-addicted shut-ins than consoles do.

But, then again, this is a PC-centric site.  Not exactly scientific.

    Mouse/Keyboard > Controller

    No contest, nuff said.

Keyboard and Mouse controls are so much easier and more precise in FPS games, in my opinion.  I love F.E.A.R on my PC, but would not consider buying it for my Xbox 360.  I would get owned unless I could play with a keyboard and mouse.

I can't believe when they port these games (Doom, Unreal) or create new ones for the console they don't add some generic keyboard and mouse support. Now that these consoles come with USB ports, it makes no sense why they don't program it in. I mean the only game I know that's added keyboard support was Phantasy Star Online for the xbox.  If the game studios were smart they would add the ability to do so (just my opinion).

In the meantime as it is, I have to vote PC.  But as time goes on I'm sure someone will get the bright idea and add the usb keyboard and mouse support we all want.

We could always use one of these:

    SmartJoy FRAG
    White Fusion REFLEX Controller

Nothing beats a mouse in a FPS.

Definately PC. This topic reminds me of when I played a game called Outrigger on the Sega Dreamcast over a 56.k connection. Even that console had a keyboard/mouse that I could use to play the game (It was FPS) and actually do well.

I guess input device really determines the advantage, not the system the user is on.

Don't care.  We have an X-Box.. it sits in the entertainment center collecting dust because, frankly, console games suck compared to PC Equivalents.

I cried when MS moved the Battletech titles to Xbox.  I even tried playing them.  They suck...

PC + Keyboard/Joystick/Mouse/Game Controller/Steering Wheel/Whatever else you want >>>>>>> Any friggen Console on the market... Ever.

Many, including "the Gaz" of PC Gamer extol the virtues of the PC in head to head combat w/ console gamers.   He and others point out that the PC gives an advantage becuase of the mouse and keyboard configuration.   I agree with this 100 percent.

However people play games they enjoy and that they are good at.   People playing a console game that is up against superior PC players  will probably lose interest after getting spanked over and over.

What I see potentially happening is loss of interest by console gamers for First person shooters that are PC Accessable.

This could then make future cross platform games less attractive to the same console buyers.   Then what you would see is the reluctance of devs/publishers  to make console games that allow cross play.   Console owners have huge buying power many times that of PC gamers, any smart business would cater to them first.

People don't like to get beat constantly and I think console players would get beat... constantly.

    Console controller=around 10 buttons

Keyboard/mouse=probably somewhere between 20-30 useful buttons

The more controls you have allows for great precision and the more accurate you are in every aspect of the game will increase your overall skill. If you play a game like COD2 on the PC and then the xbox360 you will wonder who the lead noob was on the cod2 xbox360 project. Also stuff like upgradability, variety etc. It's all been mentioned in the other weekly console vs pc topics.

    PC all the way.

Actually... PC gamerz would prolly win generally but, serious console gamers, especially those who play fighting games would flat-out destroy PC gamers.

I play Tek5, and GGXX in tourneys and some of my friends and people I hung out with and still hang around with are one of top gamers in the world.

For example I could pick up Gunz online or CS and within a week completely destroy most PC gamers.

Fighting game players tend to have alot more faster reaction time than compared to FPS PC gamers.

Another thing..I'm not being racist or anything but, being korean that I am, I have to admit asian people are way better at playing games than White people.  Some Black people are an exception.  (RTD, MICK...etc)

Just put it this way.  Serious console gamerz who are used to frame by frame differences, mix-ups and cross-overs and etc, are just naturally born to be better than most PC gamers.

Wether it'd be mouse+keyboard or a joystick, pad.  It doesn't really matter.  The top will always come out with people with faster reaction time and hand eye coordination.  And this includes a S**t-Load of serious console gamers compared to PC gamers.

*Again with the exception of korean SC players...-_-;; they're totally insane OTL...especially Im Yo Hwan.  Out of this world marine control.*

Ok, Mouse and Keyboard aside (because really that's a developer preference not to include mouse and keyboard support for console games), would most of you play your FPS on your PC or Console.

I'd probably be playing the FPS games on my console to tell you the truth if they supported the mouse and keyboard.  I don't have to constantly worry about if the game is gonna look good or tweak any settings to get it to look right.  Usually I won't have to worry about overclocking & cooling issues (though I did end up getting a fan for the x360).  Again Oblivion looks great, but I can't run it on my PC.  Well I could, but it wouldn't look anywhere as close as the x360 version.  Not sure how accurate these Smart Joy thingies work but if Bungie and other companies would add the keyboard & mouse support, I'm sure you would see more people converting from PC to Console for their FPS Fix.

In general I prefer console gaming to PC gaming.  There are more current games available for consoles overall, and gaming from your couch is generally superior to gaming from an office chair at a desk.  If freinds come over, I have tons of easy to get into console games I can entertain them with.  Four peaple playing a game at the same time in the same room pluss beer = a crapload of fun.  I'm sorry but hanging with your buds on Vent just isn't the same.  Pluss, a console costs less to beging with than a PC (the freakishly overpriced PS3 excepted) and only has to be "upgraded" every five years or so.  The graphics consistently improve over the life of a console as programmers get better at milking everything they can out of a stable hardware platform...and you spend $0 on ram and graphics cards the whole time.  If there were any MMORPGs worth playing on consoles, I wouldn't bother keeping my PC up to current gen gaming specs.  Toobad it's my favorite genre of game . . .

That said, it sould be suicide to play a FPS with a controller versus someone using a keyboard and mouse.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

PC... All reasons above and after one week from release there would be ultimate hacking software for PC.

So you belive in the racial teaching, one race is superior to all?
An white kid could become just as great at any game, as an korean kid. It's just about the time to practise, and the mindset to keep on practising.

And that little thing you said about CS.. made me laugh, really hard. How come you aren't playing pro-CS, and earning heavy bucks then?
