LoTR online is WoW clone

Im sorry to say it, but I had high hopes for this game. I just finished watching the in game video that was on File planet and it looks exactly like WoW. Yes, it has better grafix. Yes, it is on a world based on Lotr and not WoW. But from interface, skill timers, it looks just like WoW.

I hope fans of the Lotr books and movies do not make thing game into another WoW money sink game that leaves people feeling like they lost alot more then they put into it. I have yet to play the game but you can tell alot from an in game video. Im sure it will be fun for a while, most mmorpgs are alot of fun when they are neww untill you start to notice all the simularities from other games. It could of been alot better if they stuck with the style of the consle lotr games with more action. I mean come on such slow paced killing for this game? did they not see the movies, mass battless, quick action, and an excetment that can only be aquired by the thrill of face paced domination of orgs ect..

Please guys, promiss me you wont give these companys to upgrade grafix and stop worrying about game play. Better grafix means more money that we have to spend on our CPU's, but then again stimulating the econimy would be one good thing:/

you cant judge a book by its cover so you shouldn't judge a game on it's interface alone

You cant belive everything under features, most games have half the content that fetures says it does when its released. Just like WoW, it was missing a ton of stuff for first day of release, not to mention stable servers.

Im judging it by what i see of the game, its the best way to judge a game sence your looking at someone play it. There is no buityful explination writen by some writer to glorify its game under the fetures. Its in black and white right in your face, thats the game.

I agree with you I have the feeling that this game will be empty promises simply because it's of the name and the hype surrounding it. I don't think it will be a WoW clone but I definately do not think it will be a good mmo at all.

It will probbly be money making mmorpg, plain and simple. I dare developers to prove me wrong, that way i would have something to play.

I think the words you were looking for were "LoTR online is EQ clone".

Anyway, I'm not a huge LOTR fan, having only read the Hobbit and seen the movie trilogy, but the LOTRO trailer looked bland and untrue to the spirit of the license. I have to agree, there's a good chance this'll disappoint for those it tries to cater for.

Combat in LoTR is too slow an unexciting to be a WoW Clone.

    Here are a few videos

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcWblvBsklY

UI all are somewhat simiar as you need a few of the same basic things in all games. If you can customize it, it shouldn't make a difference.

The combat in this game looks VERY slow paced from the video . Slow combat concepts usually mean a slow grinds (remember old DAoC?)

But really there isn't much to tell from the videos....I guess we will see when this game finally releases. For the amount of frickin time they have taken with this game, it better be all that! (but I seriously doubt this game will make much of an impact, look at Turbines track record, I pre-ordered it in Nov of 2003 when it was slotted for Feb 2004 release, so I gave up on it long ago)

I wouldn't call it a WoW clone as all WoW is,is a refined 2nd generation of the 1st generation formulae. Nothing original about WoW at all. Its a clone itself.

and WoW is an EQ clone.

Sooo whats the point here. Its well known that more then half the mmorpg on the market are indeed EQ clones.

I guess the point is the OP feels LotR is a clone of WoW, which other then a few mechanics that most MMO have I don't see it either.

Yeah it has levels, classes and loot but don't they all bar a few? The interface is similar...but aren't they all? You need a specials bar, you need to see party memebers, you need a menu button..........I guess thats the OP's comparison.

From what I've read, the content is suppose to be much different then WoW's simplistic kiddie kill task but that is yet to be seen and honestly I have my doubts on anything Turbine does.

    Come on!!!
Was anyone really specting something from this game?
I'm not saying it will be bad, but for some reason i feel it will be another DDO, fast forgoten.

oh an that video looks horiblle, i rather burn my personal places with a lighter than playing that

First, WoW isn't a everquest clone. It has alot of diffrences, but yeah Lort will be just like everquest and WoW just becuase it will probbly be a fan boy money making machine. I think just like DDO it will be one of many big let downs for games this year or when ever it is released. I still cant see how you see WoW is everquest clone, Eq was based on monthly grinds to gain levels at the high end, Wow was just a shitty quest grind. Eq is more of just normalized spells, dmg, healing, transportation, and buffing. While WoW had some strange ideas of what a good spell should be. (Palidin devine shield? omg come on blizzard)

    WoW clone of Warhammer

    WoW clone of Everquest

    Everquest Clone of DDO

    DDO Clone of WoW

    LotR Clone of Wow

    WoW clone of LotR

THERE ALL THE SAME IN MOST ASPECTS!! LOL

I have to agree here, Lord of the rings online does look a lot like WoW (or Everquest, whatever you prefer) with better graphics (much better graphics that is). I don't really mind. WoW is a great game, but its still lacking in certain areas. if Lord of the rings can fix those areas, then you won't hear me complain its a WoW clone.

I never played World of Warcraft, and never will.

Also shouldn't we say that WoW and every other MMORPG is a clone of Everquest 1?  I think it's safe to say we could say every game is just another clone of the last one.

Nothing new has been introduced for some time now.

While I don't much care for Tubrine and I fully expect LOTRO to be about as successful as DDO, the OP is nothing more than a troll.  He hasn't played LOTRO but he's calling it a WoW clone, sight unseen.

This whole thread is a complete waste of time.  All MMO UI's share many similarities.  Especially the LOTRO, EQ2, WOW, DDO ones because they're all developed by the same guy.

This is one time I agree with you, Gameloading .

I would consider LOTR to be a WoW upgrade. Take what works and improve it, since most every game that follows tends to borrow something from what came before, and add things that were missing or just be original in other ways. A clone mimicks every aspect of a game, but this one does have some originality (and no, not just the name).

Yet, like everyone else says, the proof will be when the game comes out. The videos can only show one side of the game...and even then you're only watching, not participating. It's almost like driving with someone in a car, rather than driving the car yourself; it's always more boring when you're not in the drivers seat.

You cant say that every mmorpg is a clone of Eq1 sence there are alot of mmorpgs out now that do not deal with combat at all. But EQ1 had way to little content to it befor all the expantions( that are still coming out!) so you cant say all other games are just like it either.
  • ianubisiianubisi Member Posts: 4,201

A video is not gameplay. Until the game is release, it's nothing more than vaporware...and so are all the speculations about its worth.

I disagree, it's a Dark Age of Camelot clone. That's why I like it so much, Dark Age of Camelot was the best MMO ever and LoTR it's replacement.
  • moxuout2moxuout2 Member Posts: 96
Yeah you are right, it does look alot like DAoC. But with a major name as Lord of the rings, they will probbly be trying to make a money making mmorpg that will take after WoW. You probbly get the DAoC look that we all loved when we played it, but with no content like WoW. Anyway you put it, the game is copying other games, and for the mmorpg buisnes to further itself by making good games it needs to use more orginal ways of making them. ( Even though pritty much every idea has been done) Chareter models look like DAoC, animations and attack styls look like WoW. Its guna be junk, just wait.
