Heart Warming Story In Lineage 2 World

There is a report that Members of a blood pledge clan in Server 8 raised 24,300,000 Won (roughly 24,000$) to help fellow clan member whose mom is in critical condition after going through severe accident.

I think this is such cool story. Regardless of what game people plays, how gamers are divided amongst different camps often flaming each other for their opposing views as we often forget that it's just game after all - this sort of things give sense of new meaning to what we call Gaming Community.

I would def. want to verify that story in real life because I have seen way too much scams over the internet to believe anything.

I remember one Nigerian woman who got over 2 million bucks because she email a bunch of churches and humanitarian non-profits asking to help her cause in freeing her husband who was a political prisoner.  She had pictures, "official" documents, and news clippings to prove it.  In the long run, it was found out she was a fraud.

While I don't mind making real life friends from online (and I have)....I wouldn't trust anyone farther than I can throw them....especially when it comes to money.  Even though this one didn't specifically ask for money, telling his friends his mother was in a car accident would hint to it.

While I may very well be 100% wrong, I look at this situation with caution and discernment

Well. I understand your point of view. I agree that there are way too much scams in this world. Hard to believe anyone that you met online. I think everyone should takes precaution in matters of this nature when large sum of money got involved. So I do agree with you.

But this story is covered by major S. Korean news media. I don't know if they checked the validity of this story but I doubt that they will report something on baseless rumour or even a scam.

Well not everyone in this world benefit from Universal Health Care System like those seen in Canada.

That guy is probably from very poor family and not being able to cover his mom's operation cost.

You only drop less than a dollard or something playing games in PC Baangs and something per an hour.

Besides, as far as I know playing MMORPGs doesn't cost that much in that country.

South Korean citizens receives free health insurance I believe, the monies could be for her job loss, etc.

In Korea they have great player communities. The guy who won $3,000 dollar with an event in Lineage II (for testing a new big update) also donated it to that mother. To let you know that it aint a scam:

    L2 - official - Event money donated

    Source: Official Lineage II site
Apparently, the money they got from the Chronicle test server event has been donated to help pay for the operation for a player's mother.

Also there was an even more heartwarming story that happened a few years ago in Lineage 1:

On some server a guy asked over the global chat if any1 had a very rare bloodgroup because a relative from that guy had an accident or an illnes, dunno what he got. Be the relative needed much blood from a special bloodgroup. So one guy responded to the request and went to the hospital to donate his blood the the friend of that other Lineage-player. His life was saved. NCsoft gave the one who donated his blood a special/unique sword. I think it was called "Sword of Life". Had some special HP regenaration abilities and was able to be safely made +9 (instead of +6).

I dont sense any feeling of community in the L2 JOB english speaking community.   I do sense the tenseness of some people that others will attack them.  I also sense the greed with most english speaking ppl that makes them not want to group with me.  Seems to me that they is to much greed over loot and xp in this Lineage2.

Thats pure coincidence. Cuz with not many ppl in the english community (Japanese Beta) you cant expect every kind of ppl to be ingame. Also that was the Korean Community. I dont know how that community is but those story's give good example of how every community should be. Also in Lineage 1 (USA) there was a really nice community with lots of nice players helping each other out.

I have one more thing to add to help you understand how this sort of things are possible.

My observation tells me that the view that majority of Korean gamers hold on online gaming community quite differ from that of American gamers. As I get to know more and more about their gaming community, I am increasingly led to believe that a lot of Korean gamers have very open view on gaming and those who are in it. While many in NA view online/video games or any other related medium as some sort of merging point of dorks, sexual predators and weird social outcasts of Columbine type - who were reportedly known as Doom worshipers - Korean gamers view it very differently. For them, it's almost like utmost form of their social expression. It is seen rather weird not to be part of it. And it is very apparent if you carefully observe the nature of their interaction.

I don't know if you guys know about this, but currently many Lineage 2 blood pledge clans in Korea regulary meet in off-line parties and discuss about games in general, and other real life stuff, etc.

They make friend with each other in that way. You are no longer total stranger to each other. Everyone knows every other guys face, etc.

Anyways hope this shed some light on this issue.

Really good post. Sometimes Bloodpledges (clans) consist of ppl from the same building or block or class. like very close relatives. And indeed because gaming is very normal there (even exessive gaming), cuz it is their National Sport,  they are just acting like they would IRL: Nice, Caring & Polite. Something which gamers in the USA/Europe/wherever  dont always see as normal. Though there would be nothing wrong with some Politeness in our average gaming ways.
