DALLAS - In the largest electronics-related recall involving the Consumer Products Safety Commission, Dell Inc. agreed to replace 4.1 million notebook computer batteries made by Sony Corp. because they can burst into flames.
A Dell spokesman said Monday that the Sony batteries were placed in notebooks that were shipped between April 1, 2004, and July 18 of this year.
"In rare cases, a short-circuit could cause the battery to overheat, causing a risk of smoke and/or fire," said the spokesman, Ira Williams. "It happens in rare cases, but we opted to take this broad action immediately."

Evidently, one man suffered third degree burns to his... err... nether regions. In any case, "OW OW OW", poor guy! I wish him luck with his GINORMOUS lawsuit. I expect he's on a "Burning Crusade." There was a video of one exploding at a conference in Japan a while ago but I can't find it now. It's somewhere at www.theregister.co.uk. HERE'S some pics, though.
My cpu fan went out on my dell... about 2 months after I got it. I didn't feel like going through the warranty rigam-a-mah-row so I bought a cpu fan at a local shop. Of course the mother board had a proprietary connection so I had to jerry rig the new fan I bought at a local shop (spliced some wires). But suprisingly I got a phone call about a month later from Dell telling me that my cpu fan was being recalled. I told the guy "too late it went ka-put already". They sent me a new fan and a shroud in like two days and I had it installed in no time. Dell "did the right thing".
I feel if you have to buy a pre-made "proprietary" type computer I think Dell is a great company. I think I might just put together my next one myself.
At least Sony is "doing the right thing".
Dude, it's a Dell and the batteries are made by Sony, what did you expect?
BTW why is this thread not in off topic, has nothing to do with MMOGs?
