I just cancelled EQ and FFXI, reopened my AO account, and am now looking for the second MMORPG to grace my credit card. I have a couple stipulations however, and no doubt they will severely limit the choices I have on which MMORPG I try out next.
1) I want a MMORPG/hybrid that I can solo in and do so enjoyably. I had little fun in EQ soloing with any of the classes that do it well, because it was so slow and boring. I enjoy grouping, but I'm quite the loner when it comes to Player vs. Environment, and I want that option available.
2.) It has to be downloadable. I don't have the cash on hand to go out to the store and buy a game. I have no problem what-so-ever paying monthly, in fact I prefer it for multiplayer games.
That's pretty much it. Please don't suggest EQ, DAoC, SWG, or FFXI, because I've played them already and they didn't last long. Thanks in advance if you can help me
EDIT: Please don't tell me to wait for WoW or some other unreleased MMORPG. I fully plan to get WoW when it comes out if I don't get in the beta . I need something now to quench my thirst until then.

Ya that's good also, but even though i didnt play it some people say its alright. It's a 2d view but still. People say its pretty good too. UO has tons of things you can say. At website you get house, gold, monsters, etc. Many things go try it out.

Sadly, the majority of online players' definition of a newbie, noob, newb:
"Anyone that has been playing at least one day less than me!"
Warhammer Online...(unreleased yet, but if WoW or EQ2 cant quench your thirst, maybe they can)
Many weakness, but the system is solid and 100% solo friendly...and the guys behind are as old as TSR and they always dwell in darkness because of games like D&D, would prolly make sure the game have some worth!
- "Coercing? No no, I assure you, they are willing to bring my bags and pay public transportation just to help me, it is true!''
- "If I understand you well, you are telling me until next time. " - Ren
Ok solo and downloadable is the requirement.
First before i proceed i dunno if you played the SI expansion of DAoC some of those classes like the necromancer solo so well its almost pointless to get into a group unless at the last few levels or the group is pretty good.
Now many of the games like horizons which are solo friendly are basically on tried only you have to go buy the software later i think.AC2 is solo friendly too but same problem you have to buy the software later.
UO is solo friendly too but extremely old and tired looking.Forget the houses and crafting if you played SWG you seen better crafting and mucho better housing. So i give it a skip.
Finding a reasonably ok game with solo and free software is hard.I think rubies of eventide is free software just pay the subscription but from the beta it soloed slow.Might be changed now.
I suggest you try horizons free trial and if you like buy it.It has a great crafting system (hard for me to say which is better SWG or horizons for it.Horizons has more impact on the environment but SWG is bit more intresting and rewarding).
