Not enough driving in driving game

adolf102adolf102 Member UncommonPosts: 41

Hellu,

Been checking mmorpg.com for a good few months but didn't post anything yet. So that will be first time :)

Did read other posts on thsi forum and though I will drop my 0.02 as to why AA ain't doing too good.
I was actully very excited about AA and though it will be a blast. But sadly it wasn't.

I did play like 2 months or so, after relese and after first patch. In the end though I just didn't get hooked.
Think that what I expected from AA and missed in actual game was driving. In the end it was supposed to be game about cars. But you don't really feel you 're driving anything. Good enough the car models could be replaced with knigths and I wouldn't feel much difference.

Those car's just don't feel like cars. Their physic is weird.

Other thing beside physic is the speed and feel of you driving a car. Like most of car games make you feel the speed and care about road, turns, sliding etc. In AA first you don't feel speed, second you don't need to worry about driving at all as you can stop in place in second. I know future car super breaks and all that. But it still feel hm.. bad.

Not very constructive post which I apologize for.

Regards,
adolf

Here is the review with Project Lead of AA
    http://www.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=378

He says there they heard players complaining about this that car game doesn't have enough of "car feel" in it.

Curious myself what they will eventualy do to correct this. Think 2-3 patches I will give it one more shot.
But again I'm very curious if Net Devil will be able to change the game far enough to make it hmm.. good?

    Anyway good luck ND.

    Regards,
    adolf

    I recommend:

-More accurate translation of joytick input to steering. Driving with my Saitek X45 in beta was a disappointment, it felt like there were only maybe 4 degrees of steering to each direction. This could be so much better.

-A bit more realistic driving physics, with longer stopping distances and "goo attacks" from mobs should make you slide around instead of simply slowing you down. Temporary loss of traction instead of temporary loss of speed.

-New items that allow you to influence the driving properties of your car. For instance gears to change top speed vs. accelleration. It does not need to go all the way to a perfect simulation, but allow to customize things a bit more.

  • I agree to a point. I find it is easier to drive with the keyboard than a joystick, which is a little weird. also when i upgrade my wheels or engine, the change is just not very noticeable. I am only at level 19 right now, so maybe it will improve with time.

I am still having a blast with it, and I hope they don't cancel it soon.

I find the biggest issue with AA to be the gaming in itself..
Just to give an example, my left hand LOCKED after two hours of playing.
That just about sums up how much you actually move your hands.
Also, my right mouse-button feels abused..

On top of that the un-carish cars and awkward bikes doesn't help the case.

But yeah, I'll check back when I see the 'feel-patch' too,
it'll most likely be worth it by then

Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
    It all sucked.

I really like the concept of AA, and the look of it aswell, but as everyone else here, i think it lacks that "car-feel" i were hoping for a sort of Carmagedon-mmo, instead i got another mmo where they just changed my avatar to a car instead of a human/gnome/dwarf/whatever.. :(

It really needs either a more carish feel, or a more fleshed out life outside the car.

Yea you have a limited turning radius so that makes it harder and less liek a vehicle

Isnt the car-feel thing sorta deep in the physics coding?  Do you really think they could alter that now?  image

You can change just about anything at any time, so long as you are extremely careful that by making whatever changes you do, you aren't setting a dozen "fires" in other parts of the code.
