U.N. agency to deliver aid to N.Korea. What do you think?

So what do you guys think?

I think that you can't blame the people of a country for what the government does.  I mean I know N.Korea is supposely a "evil" country and all, but does that mean we shouldnt give them aid?  I find it sort of funny how the North Korean Gov. said "hundreds", but the South Korean Gov.  said 58,000 died.  Just a little of a difference huh ?

as long as the UN knows that it is definatly going to the hands of the people.  However i'm sure the government will take it and not hand it out.

It would be a quaint and nice thought if all the food and aid would go to the people, even I might donate some money to them. But most often, UN aid is sold for profit by the government to its own people, even though its meant to be handed out as free food those who are starving. So pretty much, the UN is feeding the ambitions of the N. Korean government and bussinesses would get ahold of the goods to sell them at high prices.

Do you have any evidence to back that up?

I dont think that the people of North Korea should suffer because Kim Jong Il is n incompetent ruler who is a bit out of his mind. However, he has a tendency of spending foreign aid on his military and not the people, which is what I thought happened during their last famine... but I could be wrong because I didnt follow it closely. It'd be nice if aid was in the form of food, not money and went straight to the people and not through his government. That might have the added effect of making people realize what a douchebag KJI is.

There's been bootleg videos sneaked out of N. Korea that would show the deplorable conditions, as well as bags of rice with the UN emblem on it being sold in a open air market. (Undercover in North Korea, maybe check if it has been loaded on youtube or something). The thing is though, I'm just not one that would actively trust N. Korea on much.

No offense or anything, but why'd you suddenly get so hostile?  Was it because Israel once did the same thing as he described or something?  (Yes I'm naive .)

Well firstly you CAN blame the people, as poor as they are I haven't seen much uprisings in that country to show me that they dislike their communist regime. They may run because of lack of food and money but I see 0 show of revolutionary sentiment coming from that country. If NK is an enemy I think it is laughable to send food over there.  Playing nice to people who hate you doesn't help in Iraq and it won't work in NK.  There is proof that the food isn't getting to the people. Pretty sure it's a fact.  Although if the US is going to keep paying off North Korea to halt it's nuclear program they might as well send em some food :)

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

Koreans are starving because they are spending all their money on their military.

If you are looking for a military victory or a regime change, continue the seige.

If you want them to start feeding themselves, declare peace and remove the armies from their border.
