What do you say...

I made a post in the entertainer forums with a suggestion on a way to make the proffession more useful etc.

Look at the responses I got.

http://soe.lithium.com/swg/board/message?board.id=ngeentertainer&message.id=24946

What do you say to responses like that?

It is almost like they don't even want to have a purpose.

This isn't real life??? So adding a lil realism is a bad thing?

I don't know what to say to responses like that.

Don't take it personally.  At least you distracted your two respondents from their usual anti-AFK ent bot crusade, and that is in itself an accomplishment.

    My reply.

I think you guys have let the developers and favored yellow-names lower your standards for your profession. Someone comes in rooting for your profession to have better things and all you guys can say is, "it's too hard,' or "you just want better buffs," "this is just a game."

I think you guys have lost any spirit you once had and have resigned yourself to the limits the developers and your senator have set for you.

By the way, you don't have forced or even strongly encouraged interaction because of senators and developers, not the playerbase.

    LOL Thanks for helping out.

Some of there responses are ridiculous. Entertainers were used and abused???

Jesus, entertainers have turned into spineless, whiney, cry-babies. They blame the playerbase for the developer's incompetence. I used to feel sorry for them, but now...

They get what they deserve; puppet senators, lazy, lying, pathetic developers, and a crappy game.

Used and abused? When dealing with other players, you'll always run into those ADD types that can't see beyond themselves and the moment they are in. They can go all kinds of directions when they're even slightly brought out of that state but as far as I know the ignore list quieted anyone put on it.

Their concerns may be justified or valid. If I had to guess though, I'd say they've been kicked around so much that they've convinced themselves they like what is happening to feel more in control of their situation.

Here is a post from that same thread by Gothywench.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We do disagree on a few things, but we agree on this. So, adding on to your statement for our visitor:

We have taken abuse from the playerbase in many forms, based on the decisions that SOE makes. Stat migrations? We didn't want the ability for this, we protested mightily. We *knew* how the player base would react. The playerbase tore us up and down for *forcing* them to come to us. They didn't like the 10 min timer, they didn't like waiting in line (since we could only do one stat migration at a time) and they didn't like us telling THEM the rules of the stat migration. You couldn't have wounds, you shouldn't have a TEF...all sorts of things. They'd cancel before the 10 min was up, they'd have wounds and the stat migration would incap them. They'd get attacked while having a TEF...and we'd have to *start over*. So, they'd be pissed and so would the players lining up for the migrations.

We've taken the abuse by being called worthless, useless, gay, stupid and told to go play The Sims, simply because people do not understand a non-combat game. The griefers use the hump macro against us if we won't cyber with them. We're called **edit** and sluts when we want to simply perform and not give in to the whims of the combat wombat player. We try to help the new players in the profession and we're called names for that, too. People will actually *argue* with us about the light show spam not granting XP, among other things.

Why do we put up with it? Because we love the art of performing. We like to help people who are nice. We enjoy helping the new players. We like the camadarie of putting an impromptu show together with others who enjoy the performance aspect of Entertainer. We enjoy Image Design (it's my favourite part). We like running events; we like the social game. Some are solo performers and some are group performers.

We don't always agree on what we want for our profession, but you better believe we all agree what we don't want. And that's people coming to our forum and ragging on us. Wanna argue with someone? Go to the gameplay forums and fight there.

Again, we have no problem with the OP offering up ideas that we can use and would enjoy. We're simply tired of people basically asking for more buffs/stronger buffs but painted up pretty. We can see right through it. We'd much prefer someone coming over and saying "The devs need to give you combat buffs/stronger buffs" and be honest about it.

If you want to know what Entertainers want out of the game, simply *ask*.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Pretty ridiculous isn't it?

Some people are more sensitive and that's alright. If there was no ignore feature, I could see the issue but there is. I mean /addignore and move on, seriously. My motto when merchanting was this, "If I ignore half the server, that'll still leave me half the server to deal with.. probably the better half at that."

    Just an FYI....

The people still playing NGE wars like entertainer the way it is right now. If you go back and read the old dancer, musician, image design and entertainer forums you'll see those same names advocating for the type of game they have right now.

Free from any participation in combat. Free from any participation from players not clearly interested in coming to them completely of their own free will.

The people that loved Raph's design of entertainers as being an important piece of how the world works quit a long time ago. Unless you post how much you like c0ff3b33r or how you are making a movie about the last five entertainers on your server sitting in the cantina role playing being sex slaves to each other they don't want to hear about it.

If there are more than a hundred players that still play as entertainers left in the entire game I would be surprised. Why do you think there is no publish plan for them?

Actually, quite the opposite. It's not the Senators that have bagged us; it's the playerbase. We have very high standards, which is why we've been campaigning for the removal of AFKbots and a multitude of other things.

I think what you are missing is that many people who come here with ideas of what they think we "need" or "want" clearly do not even care what we want or feel we need. Adding more buffs or more powerful buffs does nothing for our profession if no one wants to play it in the first place.

BUFFING IS NOT FUN. HEALING IS NOT FUN

We want our profession to be fun again and we have very clear ideas of what we want and don't want. Yes, they do vary, that's for sure. However, we care more about our profession than those who want to "help" us.

If he had come in and said "Wow, the theatres could use some work and here's some great ideas that you guys might enjoy." it would get a different response. The thing is...no one ever *asks* us what we want. They only come over to our forum to tell us what they think we should *have*.

The underlined begs this question:  If your profession used to be fun and all it did more in the past was heal and buff players, then why is healing and buffing not fun?  This is blindness.

Yes cantinas were fun places, people did once listen to musicians with there made up songs and what not.

What changed? (In order of importance to this issue)

1- SWG became, like all MMORPG's as they progress, very clickish.  People joined guilds and instead of hanging out with thousands of diffrent people... (Yeah NGE'ers/CU'ers, and really anybody after Jan 04, that is the way it was) ...they hung out with their guild instead.  (This is why I rarely join guilds).

2- The playerbase that enjoyed social and RP interaction was no longer promoted.  SOE/LA instead promoted a playerbase that was mostly power-gammers.  This was a result of the holocron marketing strategy.

3- Innovative content ideas like entertaining, Player Cities, vehicles, battlefeilds, pets, housing, ect where not expanded upon or fixed in the case of battlefeilds.  This drove out a large number of the playerbase that wanted to see these ideas expanded upon.

4- And the bullet for entertainers, the thing that killed the n00b entertainer that was not established with a guild who supports them, the loss of interdependancy.  Until a n00b can enjoy entertainer like a vet who already has a guild, then entertainer will be a weak and dieing profession.

BTW- Blame the Marketing department of the Producer and Developer for this one, they did not like the old playerbase and did not want to hold them in place.
