Did blizzard lose rights or sell diablo?

Because if anything they would have definatly made a world of diablo and never made a WoW or they would have made a DIablo III by now. Does any one know if they sold the rights to diablo? I heard a rumor a while back that they were going bankrupt and WoW saved them.

would be interesting to see a world of diablo..... but the way that game was made, it wouldnt have gone far. Considering there were only male barbarians, necros and ect, and female amazons. people would get into a big dispute over girls wanting to be these classesand guys wanting to be amazons ...... And the fact that I really wouldnt see any good PvP or "raids" coming from a WOD. You should be askin, Why havent they made a World of Starcraft?

Yea but im sure if World of diablo came out all classes would be male and female and im sure they would add more classes.

  • tvalentinetvalentine Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 4,216

not sayin they couldnt do it, they'd just have to make a few changes. Like make it where every city is available to everyone including those who havent done the quest or w/e to get to the next city.

but even still, i wouldnt play it.

"World of Diablo" would be awful if they kept similar gameplay mechanics... Potions spamming... Not for the win. Although I'd love to see a diabloish necromancer class (what with huge armies of undead etc.) in an MMORPG.

Blizzard just finished a law suit for the creation of StarCraft 2, which was in production in 2003.  Apparently Blizzard was sued by the UK company,  Games Workshop, for copyright infrigment and stealing ideas.

Games Workshop makes miniatures that you buy, build and paint, and this company started in the Late '70s and is still prospering.  Blizzard had to stop production of StarCraft 2 in 2003.  So i doubt they will be making a World of Starcraft, probably due to paying royalties.

Most of the diablo team left blizzard and at the time they said no more diablo games. I'm sure once WoW starts to show it's age we'll see one of the two big names next up for MMO production.

Not sure where I read it but shortly after WoW was released, Blizzard got asked why they didnt do Diablo instead. If I remember correctly, the answer was that Diablo was just way to dark to make into an MMO and the hate mail they already get from religious groups and such would of skyrocketed had they made a diablo MMO. Especially if it was even half as popular as WoW is now. YEOW! Could you imagine the poor sod that would have to address the hate mail? They would need a whole team just for that. And the sanctions it could bring about would be disasterous to games in general.

I still remember the damage the religious whackos did to D&D years ago. The entire game was changed just to get them off TSR's back.

I tried playing Diablo and Diablo II several times. I never get more then a few hours before I have to shut the game off and uninstall it. The music is so depressing it makes me want to go jump off a cliff.

Thank God GW is standing up for it's franchise.  Although all Blizzard seems to have to do is add a new and fairly original race and they'll be set, like they did with warcraft. Starcraft is pretty much 100% warhammer 40k, it's pure laziness they just couldn't think up something new.

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

Do people really care about what sex are you in a game? A game is still enjoyable even if you look male or female in a game.

I hope D3 will be released any time soon =/.

Oh ok. I thought it was because Games Workshop approached them to make a 40K RTS and Blizzard agreed. Then flaky Games Workshop changed their minds halfway through pre-production and left Blizzard holding the bill. Just like they have done with half a dozen other game companies. So Blizzard changed names and rebuilt the game then released it as Starcraft.

Because Games Workshop has always been the spoiled Primadonnas of the RPG and Tabletop world. I still remember the attempted lawsuits by GW against the poor sod that made a space marine model for Quake 3.  GW is worse then Lucasarts when it comes to "protecting" their franchize. The term "Foxed" comes from Lucas suing everyone for everything. But it should be called "Workshiopped" because they are far worse.

I have been around 40k for quite some time. I remember how excited everyone was that a 40k RTS was coming out. Then GW jumps ship so no 40k RTS. A short time later Starcraft is released. It becomes the single most popular RTS of its time. Its the Half-Life of RTS games. To this day its still got a huge following. Now GW wants to step in and try to get a slice of the pie. They shouldnt have split in the first place. Serves them right. You get prissy and it will come back to bite you in the bum later.

Just like when iD tried to step in after years to sue Valve over Half-Life. Valve bought that Quake engine fair and square. iD had no claim to any compensation other then what was originally paid. And the courts proved Valve right.

I'd try out a Diablo Online or something. Why not? I can say I enjoyed Diablo 2 for about a month until I reached level 95 and could dominate in PvP. They 'could' do it, I mean, create a MMO from it..however, it looks like they have their feet being washed daily from WoW. In essence, they would be in competition with their own game. It would be almost counter-productive.

    Nevertheless, I'd give a Diablo Online a try ^^

Uhh ok.  It was stated in PC Gamer on there article of a Warcraft 3 total conversion mod, for Starcraft.  It stated, Blizzard recently finished a law suit, which happened when Starcraft 2 was in production in 2003.  Your ignorance impresses me.
