This game has forced raiding

LoTRO will have raiding meaning they are going away from the lore to get a lil closer to wow. Since even a 25 man raid will require nice sized guilds to handle you get the same exclusive crap that wow offers. so much for fellowships well at least once you get to end-game.

I wouldn't start making assumptions until they truely announce the purpose of these raids and how they will be run/organized. I would hope they didn't go the WoW route and make raiding the only new advancement in the game and a way to just get gear.

Actually, they have stated that items that can be acquired through raids will be able to be had through various other means as well.  Raiding won't be required.

Ahh, thanks for the info! If that holds true for launch that would be fantastic! Hopefully the alternate means won't be a huge grindfest or very mundane to achieve.

just because they have raids doesnt mean there is forced raiding. In fact, just the opposite; reading the developer comments, it seems like they are looking to solve the endgame "problem" by offering several different options, one of which is raids. I think most game developers have heard the complaints about WoW and forced raiding, that they wont make that same mistake.

    Elladan - ESO (AD)
    Camring - SWTOR (Ebon Hawk)
Eol & Justinian - Rift (Faeblight)
Ceol and Duri - LotRO (Landroval)
    Kili - WoW
    Eol - Lineage 2
    Camring - SWG
    Justinian (Nimue), Camring - DAoC

Honestly game content in my opinion doesn't really effect how much fun raiding is in a game. Coming from WoW, your guild/community/server is what made raiding fun night to night. Generally any game as huge as EQ/WoW using raiding as an end game do a really good job of it, the rest of the job is in the hands of the guilds to organize and run them well. If you settle in with a good guild that has your same goals for playing the game as you do, raiding will be fun and enjoyable.

    exactly. good post mate.

i'm usually a guild person that likes to help the guild out as much as possible, willing to help, willing to get items for, and all that stuff, but i like those type of guilds that give me some solo alone time. it's just better for me, I like the seclusion of running around a world myself and killing things that i actually get some good xp for instead of half or whatever. but all in all, definitly a guild person.

also, am going to check this out, but it just came to mind so might as well ask if someone knows.. how will they show you're in a guild and stuff, symbols..tabards..ect?

Good question, I am curious about that as well. The tabard idea in WoW was pretty cool. If they do something similar I hope they provide more options than just a tabard most people chose not to wear .

After wow, end game raids and a few hundred member guild I can say for myself that ill never spend another cent on games that use this content.  Im glad to hear your opinions its always good to hear the other side of things but this style takes to much time/leaves to many people out.  I wanted to make this thread here after I found out about the raids because alot of people share my views and its hard to get this info from the game sites themselves unless you dig down into the devs diary or ask a forum.  I didnt see anything about the other means of obtaining the same items as the raiders get if thats the case then im sorry I jumped the gun.

I don't like big-guild raid events. I prefer more intimate grouping. Groups of 3-5 friends can be really fun. When I was playing WoW, even at level 60, I prefered to run the smaller instances because of the number of folks required to run them. I hope blizzard is successful at reducing the number of high level instances as they have planned for their expansion.

For a game like LotR:O, I can see large raids to help defend castles from invasion and things like that, but the 1-monster vs 40-gamers is just tired and hopefully I won't be involved in another MMO that thinks that's end-game content.

    Just my 2¢.

    so...

It has been made very clear if you've had the time to follow it, that there will be several options that will get you similar gear (notice I did not say the same gear but similar)  It appears that some may even be able to craft all but the most amazing items and those amazing items can also drop places other than raids.  Sounds like there will be 4 or 5 end-game options at this point, but no definite numbers on how many yet.  So, yeah....you jumped the gun a little.  But you should have seen the flames that started when the simple word "RAID" was mentioned in a live chat.  Somewhere in the range of 5000 posts in a week about it untill it was explained a bit better.  Keep following if youcan and stick to the updates on tuesday and thursday.  Can really help your craving.
