I hate raiding, so I wouldn't mind seeing that go away entirely. I'm a casual gamer, mostly because I'm no longer a teenager and can't devote multiple hours to a game. Mortgage, job, wife, life... these things demand my attention more than a game ever will. MMO developers would be well-advised to pay attention to older gamers, as they have the most disposable income but the least amount of time.
Plus, raiding is a crapshoot. There's a tiny percentage that something good will drop, and there's a tinier percentage that you'll be the one out of the dozens (or hundreds) of other raiders who gets something, and then that something might not even be useful to you. No thanks.
I play a game to relax, not participate in a lagfest on the 1% chance that I might or might not get something that's of minimal use to me. That's not fun, that's boring as hell and a waste of my time. If I can't advance in that game, I'm going to go play something else. Meaning, my money will be spent on someone else's game.
Well im not into Raiding much either. I do enjoy the whole strategy part where you have to figure out how to bring the mob down. But I do agree with you. You get 80 players on a Raid and 1 sword drops. Who gets it? That system is just stupid. I hate the fact that MMO's leave loot up the guilds. I pay to play the game, but some kid who happens to be a guild leader/officer somwhere decides whether or not I get loot in the game I pay for? Wow thats beyond stupid.

You miss my point.
The problem arises when people want EPIX to expand their e-peen but want to get EPIX without raiding.
If you dont want to raid, don't raid.
Epics are for little kids who have time for that schit. Not for me.
I played solo and small groups to 60, then I did pvp in battlegrounds, had a fun time in WoW. No raiding at all, no hand of rag, just reasonable gear that I was able to purchase and/or craft.
