Great PK System

harmonicaharmonica Member Posts: 339

The PK system is reminicent of UO's fame system. Where you have murder counts, innocents, murderers, flagging grey, etc. It's the best way to have nonconsenual PvP imho.

All oldschool UOers should look forward to this game. The only thing it doesn't have that UO had was a cool combat system. Although, I haven't played RoT yet so I might be wrong.

That is definitely one of the things I am loving about RoT.  I didn't ever play UO so i can't comment on that combat style.  I am pretty familiar w/ RoT's though.  In theory, it sounds good.  I've yet to see it in action.

Its Melee combat system is similiar to UO but a bit more complex. Theres skills... And then theres styles for every skill.

    1.info 'bout combat styles?
Best that i ever saw was in the Blade Of Darkness (not MMORPG, something like Rune). Would b nice if they can make at least 50% quality of it.
    2. more info 'bout spellcrafting and casting

The best answers I can give you are straight from the devs.  Each of these topics have an accumulation of everything the devs have said on the subject.  An interesting read.  :)

why did they do it that way?  should there be skills in a style, not vice versa?       like the stlye of fighting , kickboxing, has the skills, like knee strikes and elbow strikes,   the style jiu jitsu has skills like armbars, triangles and chokes?

it seems like the game did it backwards   having styles within a skill,  or did they just mis name it?

Im from Garriot's UO and this game sounds cool......except for perma death. Im sorry, but if your active in PvP, your going to be dying quite a bit.

Personally, everything I have seen on a system like this says its purpose is to keep interest in the game, gives the high level player something to do. Well, if you have a decent pvp system and freedom given to players and a meaningful political system, the high level players have plenty of things to do and dont need to roll a new character to keep them occupied.

IMO, if they take permadeath out of this game, its very close to perfect.

You don't get perma death that easily... You will still be able to pvp without worrying about perma death. Perma death is more likely to happen from "old age" rather than pvp.

Yeah i think that if u get killed by a mob our a person u don't die permately only by old age you die i guess.

yes it appears mostly death by old age, and hence the bloodlines .

Think I read somewhere that permadeath will occur at these situations :

    Age ( 500 hours played )

    Battle with gods

quests in the storyline of the world

    Could be more  *shrugs*

And for those screaming "dead by 500 hours NO WAY ! " I think again I read somewhere that your character should be "viable" for PvP in 50 hours or so

Why is it no one gets how the permadeath works? (Well Boogie gets most of it)

-You only permadie if your fame is really really ......really low from griefing or you are on an important quest!

-Once your first toon dies (after 500 hours) then your child picks up the same skills and surpasses the first one....then the farther into the bloodline you get the more powerfull you get and there is a chance your character will become immortal (meaning you cant permanately die, you can still be smashed by other players!)

-SO all in all when your first character dies its child keeps the last name gets all the gear and money and rapidly learns the skills upto the point of the previous toons then advances even farther so the more generations you go through the stronger you become!

-Think of it as you are playing through generations of a family like an empire not OMG Midget Hunter died nooooo cuz you can have Midget Hunter the 2nd or just change the first name to Dwarf ....then you are Dwarf Hunter. So you see the death after 500 hours from your character is actually a good thing :)

    - look here

If sharing my all knowing wisdom offends you I apologize........kinda!

    No, I get it.

    5 hours, 50, 500, 5000 - whos cares.

I wont speak for everyone, but I get attached to my characters. A child isnt the same thing as my original character. I really dont see the need for this. Theres no real "hole" in the game mechanics that demand this kind of mechanism.

I think the whole point is to put less stress on getting so attached to one character and increase the focus on an overall unique, personal storyline.

No matter if you're into RPing or not, you're going to end up with a lineage and each character will have his or her own unique story.

500 hours is plenty of time for me to become bored with a character. 20 hours a week that's 25 weeks or about 6 months.
