Depends on what the Police in your area uses. My department uses the Glock models. For the standard duty issue we had a glock 19 and our off duty firearm was a Glock 23. The Glock 19 is a 9mm while the Glock 23 is a .40 calibur. Glock 23s are much smaller...the same exact size as my Beretta. For Glocks, you're looking to spend about 600-800 bucks for a brand new one and 400-500 for a good quality used one. Berettas look nice, feel nice, and their damn fine guns in terms of accuracy. Berettas 96 model is a great full length pistol and is a .40 calibur. Look around to spend 700 brand new and 450 used. That model can be seen here: [url=http://www.beretta.com/images/immagini_maxi/p_92_96_DS_maxi.jpg] My good ol hunting 12 gauge can be seen here: [url=http://www.maverickarms.com/pages/images/guns/31010big.gif] I've had that gun in mud, dirt, grime, tree trunks and in rain, it shoots like a charm...and it was only 180 bucks on sale at Wal*Mart lol

imho that is just way too much to be spending on a handgun.

lol, ill let you believe that if you want. A beretta 9mm will do the same exact amount of damage as a Smith and Wesson 9mm.
A Colt .45 will do the same amount of damage as a Reuger Compact series .45.
A certain calibure will do the same amount of damage as another product with the same calibur.
Guns are pretty much rated by the their stability in workmanship and marksmanship.
And the Beretta have achieved a status of rating high in both areas. Otherwise, many Police, Sheriff, and State departments would not use Berettas to defend the lives of their employees.
Also, trust me, that Beretta gun I just bought can easily do it's job.

Ahhhh he speaks the true 9mm is the exact same as any other 9mm so on and so forth i just said i prefer the Colt 45 is becuase i like the wieght and the feel of teh gun and nobody can deny that colts are well made. I just don't like the feel of the grip of berettas. As for Glocks also a great weapon i just wouldn't own a beretta.
As for Ak-47 when i was in the army i never shot a Ak-47 but we had a dimostartion using one so yes the army uses them but not for combat.... i was just saying that becuase some said Ak-47 kick ass... so i compared it to the M-16 which i also believe isn't the best weapon.
Remeber this if you ever join the army and go into combat that your weapon was made by the lowest bidder.
Yea but if you shoot the guns you gotta add the price of brass and that cna get pretty steep... depending on how much you go to the range and/or shoot at home invaders :P

I can get 200 rounds of 9mm for $25 at wal*mart. I go through those once a month. LOL, if you wanna compare the rounds...then thats like the gas in the car I forgot to mention. Hehe.
Gun rounds= $25
Gas = $45 per month
For the home invaders, I just put that ammo loss on my taxes as a "financial loss" and get reimbursed.

Financial loss thats classic... but 9mm rounds are cheaper then 45 when i had a 45 i think it was 200 for like 35 can remember exactly. thats why i like shooting 22 pistol at the range becuase its like 15 bucks for a brick.

200 rounds for 35 bucks right?
Yeah, its costly if you want to shoot a 45 at a range.
I usually stick with a 9mm or a 22 at the range...and the occasional 12 gauge at the outdoor range

A gun collector will say the same exact thing about a computer
And with a firearm, you have a better chance of your gun becoming a collector's item. Computers have a 100% chance of loosing its value.

Guns = $600+
Cars= $18,000+ and insurance = $30-$350 a month
You can see why collecting firearms are so much enjoyable and cheaper for me
