Most MMOs have roleplaying server, but it is like why bother. Most people don't even follow the rules. WoW is the number one game with ignorant people that don't know what roleplaying. When I played WoW which was over a year ago I started a character on the roleplaying server. I look at the names around me and already I see one that isn't acceptable. I told him the server is roleplaying and responded with what is that?
We can't let roleplaying die, it is the basis of MMORPG.
I think most of the people on WoW roleplaying servers simply joined a server, not understanding that it was a roleplaying server.
Because of developers that create an enviorment and online culture that does not encourage roleplay. One small example... in EQ2 there is a quest that refers to nearby monsters as "mobs" in the game and completely and instantly ruins immersion. Its something that was not caught and edited before release but when you have an enviorment when developers just think of creatures as "mobs" and not about the creature or its story and background then you have a gaming experience that is detrimental to roleplay.
What happened? the internet came to everyone, including a massive influx of RP intolerant gamers, pretty soon to be caught RPing meant to be all but chased out of town followed by pathetically phrased insults, mostly including the word carebear and/or gaywad, in an equally pathetic language, by which I of course mean 1337speech

MMORPG roleplay works fine, as long as you understand one basic concept, the game itself is not going to help you roleplay, or reward you for doing so. The game itself is just the backdrop for the character development and roleplay that you provide. There's never going to be true immersion, you just have to take what you can get and roll with it. I've found excellent roleplay on several MMORPGs, but it's just as true that the RP servers are also packed with non-RPers.
