I was just going to post this, it seems not only will the player base get screwed by SOE. But now by the Emu members as well. Or Ex members, rather

Its just sad anyone can do this sort of thing off a non-profit effort.

Yet another reason not to play an EMU server...

The Emu is a great thing but i think the security on those servers will be too low.
Just think when someone starts his own server at home a good hacker can through this server bombard your computer and get every information u have on it. If im wrong than im sorry but there are too many risks.
But i dont tell i wont try it hehe.

    Hmm...

    I've played on a:

     UO EMU server

    AO EMU server

EQ EMU server (for 10 minutes..I never fancied EQ, but my GF played on it a few months)

    Lineage 2 EMU server

WoW EMU server (well, actually my GF for a short stint.it was closed down)

And a few other "non real" game servers for various games. I've yet to be robbed or in any way duped. Heck in some cases, I found the communities on those servers to be more mature and more open than most of the "real" servers. Now, why would a SWG EMU server be so different? Perhaps because it's a server providing something we don't get on the "real" server, and you think that SWG live would lose even more paying customers, thus making it a lonely place to be?

I dunno....All I know, is that there are dozens of EMU servers in the making, and so far, most of them seem to be planned out well. (There are a few that seem to be PvP l33t based, with free resource handouts, afk buffbot services and "coolios to those that "donate"...But who's wanna play on such a server anyways?)

That's like saying a Ford engineer being charged with embezzlement is a reason to not drive Ford vehicles.

The fact that an ex-developer stole money has nothing to do with the trustworthyness of the people running servers, as the developers are only providing the software. Now, if one of the admins of one of the servers did the same thing, then that might have been a reason not to play on their server, but it has nothing to do with neither the devs nor any of the people running any of the other servers.

So they let one guy control all the accounts and money, no accountability, and they only asked for the account info AFTER he left?

    Yup, that was smart.

Now I see they are asking folks to ask PAYPAL for refunds and then resend it to a new person. What in the hell makes them think folks will trust this new guy.

First it has to get to that stage ;)  The duck project seems to be running into a few issues like these lately...

When an individual does it it's called theft.

When a corporation does it, it's called good business.

Sad that Joker did this.  But the reaction on the duck forums has surprised me, no one should ever underestimate the tenacity and determination of this community and it's will to get this done.

I have been following both the main EMU project and one of the future EMU server comunities. So far I am seeing exactly what I thought I would see. The EMU project itself is a halfassed WIP. The comunity is run by 1337 idiots who are already talking about granting the admins and their own private guilds extra perks because "they pay for the server". I have already seen the admins ban people for asking too many questions or sending too many PMs.

I fully expect that once EMU servers start popping up that the force_whine will return to its preCU glory and changes to the game will be demanded just as they were in the SoE game.

Have fun with your EMU all jedi galaxies.

hahaha! begun the pre-cu fanboy civil war has.

On a more serious not, they deserved it. Anyone that didnt see it coming from miles away deserved to have their money taken, if only to teach them a very valuable lesson.

I was just wondering what they think they could charge this guy with if he did it? Not like this is actually a legit business with a very grey area as far as the legitimacy of  EMU's.

Sounds like drug users suing the dealer for stealing their money.

And how is this different than my buying a particular game, for it's particular features, spending over time over a thousand dollars on it in sub fees and boxes bought, and then the day after an expansion comes out (that I paid for 3 times) they announce they are changing all those features?

    Both are wrong.

    Both should be illegal.

    Both should involve criminal prosecution.
