i will probably get, yelled at and laughed at and insulted by this, but im gona try explain my thoughts.
This game is from what ive heard and seen, a 3d person view hacknslash game or in short a PVP ONLY<< ONLY>> game.
Name 1 PvP only game that has a monthly fee, let me tell you one of the most well known PvP ONLY games out there(little off here cuz its not a MMO) Battlefield, thats pay once, tada CRAP SERVERS but its free...
So basicly if they would make it P2P i think there down for a deathsentance, and i also highly doubt they will because i hope they have done their share of marketing and research and know that P2P will not work with this kind of game.
Me=out
Planetside.
My copy of battlefield includes a single player component. Did they remove it from yours?
Who am I? @Lorechaser on CoH Badjuju, Splinterhoof, Plainsrunner on WoW (Moonrunner) Shyy'rissk on SWG (Flurry) ClockworkSoldier, HE Pierce, Letnev on Planetside Gyshe, Crucible, Terrakal on DDO And many more.
you can't really compare Fury with games like battlefield. Fury has progression (you get more skills and such), so if anything it's more of a pvp-only Diablo 2 - with only secure servers.
As far as saying monthly fees would kill the game i can't agree. WoW has pay once and pay monthly. Guild Wars has pay once. There's plenty of free games, and there's also some pay only monthly games. The payment plan doesn't make or break a game. WoW is one of the most expensive games out there and yet it's the most popular as well...
It would be ever so pleasing if more, if not all, the mmorpg's on the market were free of charge, however they still require you to pay a monthly fee. If these games were entirely free, just your time put into it, more gamers would be exposed to these games. However, by charging money for a game, you are gimping your chances of how many people will play your game. I want to create an account and play, more accounts for more money!
of course this game isnt free... and i hope it wont be free.. to eliminate "some" people
How do you know this?
Anyway, the game being p2p won't make or break it but I hope it isn't. I hope very much that this game is like guild wars with a one time game purchase fee and no server charges.
However, the game very well may be an item mall type payment plan though because Auran did team up with CDC Games which is a pioneer of the "free-to-play, pay-for-merchandise" model for online games which would be ok with me because it would mean I could play for free. However I hope if it is this payment method, it doesn't lower the quality of the game.

what do you mean how does he know this he clearly stated it
1. band-with and server maintnance costs money.
2. do you think someone spends three years of there lives making a game for free?
3. there are other expenses like marketing, packaging, other employee salaries like the team that works on patches and expansions, the shipping of said product to said store, ect ect ect.
so yes it costs money unlike rs wich is browser based and has adverts all over its site wich pay for the costs of the free worlds and some other stuff but they still need the money from "memberships" wich isn't much it's $5-$10 depending on payment method but its not worth it.
now if i were to make an mmo i'd make say in game billboards as to pay for most of the costs therefore only needing the initial $50 purchase per unit to pay for the rest because bill the janitor down the hall doesn't mop the floor and clean the bathroom for free does he?

no he didn't clearly state it.
Just because band-width and server maintenance cost many doesn't mean they are going to have charge for the server for example guild wars.
Many games are free to play but have in game advertisements or item malls, so yes I think people spend three years to make games free to play
And none of those reasons clearly state how he knows how Auran plans on making the payment options. So please don't try to make someone to sound stupid if you don't know what you are talking about.
I was at the Go3 expo, fury was there, i asked the developers if they are going to include a monthly fee and the guy said there is going to be two options, a free one and one where if u pay u get some better things.
oo they had (ncsoft)a cushon i mean lineage2 was a popular game might still be.so they could start this but i dont think they forsaw that it would be this popular lol.3 chapter and now going toward gw2 .their planning for a replacement of lineage 2 must realy suffer lol.AION is prob the replacement of lineage2.its as cool if not cooler then wow lot of poeple dont know lineage 2 cause its in the shadow of wow .but if you like wow you prob would like lineage2.
Fury will be available with an optional subscription.
A casual player can buy the box and play right away without any other fees, and the more hardcore can go all the way with the subscription. There will be incentives to subscribe, but we are most definately against 'buying power'. A subscriber will not have any advantage in combat, when competing against a non-subscriber.
Exact details on the pricing model have yet to be announced.
sounds good pay once then pay monthly only if u want to. So is the game similar to world of warcraft in the way its played, ive seen some gameplay videos but they all little clips and stuff. any1 no where i can find 1 where its like sum1 playing being recorded. n/a means not availbale i think lol

n/a means not applicable. If it's next to a game, it means it is supposed to be free. Doesn't mean it will be though, as updating the game info is not one of this site's strong suits.
My goal in life is to be like a ray of sunshine—so radioactive that I kill idiots who get too close.
Awesome. I want to apply it to half this thread.

I guess I'll rebut that directly. There is a reason that the most popular MMOs (ie the ones that have defined the genre) are that way. None of them were a once off fee. That being said, I won't deny that having a pay-to-play mechanism obviously does deter some gamers, but this is not necessarily a bad thing -- in fact, it generally raises the quality of players ten fold. Quality over quantity is important because fury's aim is to be a game for the hardcore PvPers. This goal comes with a unique set of requirements that not many (any?) MMOs have ever successfully met -- it is a niche market. This basically discounts any incarnation of P2P. That being said, Fury will have substantially reduced server maintenance costs because of the implementation.
There is no world per se - just instanced 'warzones'. The largest hurdle will always be load balancing -- and to be honest, this can remain relatively static, barring any large change in population dispersement. They won't have to manage zone changes, zone counts, or dynamic balancing as much as you do in a player influenced active world (ala WoW, EQ). Perhaps most importantly, unlike a traditional MMO, they won't have to maintain a massive database. However, this still does not, somehow, make providing high speed connectivity free.
Remember, when we talk of connectivity and maintenance, we aren't just talking about between some magical little box and the internet. We're talking about expensive routing hardware, fibre, switches, software and hardware security, maintenance personnel, and really, the list goes on. You're looking at multiple servers that need to be connected together at highspeed, then connected to the internet. Then you have to factor in hardware faults, disasters, data recovery, disk loss etc. It is expensive to maintain a reliable MMO cluster.
What is truly astonishing to me is that you think a team of developers would go three years of their life without pay, relying on the possible dividend after the games release -- which is what you indicated. A plan like that is often required for modern game developement companies, but for any individual (especially one with a family) this is a very very large risk. Look up the term vaporware if you still don't understand what I'm getting at.

any extra's that do affect actual fights would be counter-productive anyway, with what i've heard from their skill matchup system.
