Don't click here...no2
ist not in their best interest... SWG can still be resurected and if done right it can make more but take less than to do SWG2
besides... what more can they add to SWG2? all the bugs are already used in SWG no more bugs left for the 2...
Isn't the game already on life support?
I thought one of the reasons for the NGE was quicker publishes and yet they still haven't completed the expertise system, and won't for at least a year after it launched.
Hi,
All I have to say is that if!!!! this is true, than they better bring back Pre-cu server / game with content and a true GCW. Because right now LEC is suffering creditablity issues with respect to MMORPGs and specifically SWG. So, if they want to ensure they get the max number of players to join the new mmorpg SWG game they got coming; then they need to prove they care about the customer and the game and start building some good will by bring the pr-cu systems back.
They especially need to do this because of the potential competition from STO and Stargate worlds that come out around the same time. Not to mention, I think most SWG fans are growing more annoyed by the fact they can't find a mmorpg game similar to the pre-cu swg and having to wait so long to find something comparable, that they simply may loose interest in SWG franchise and focuse on something like STO or Stargate.
IMO,
Tauceti

Pre-cu/Cu/NGE: they changed and rehashed and added and removed. But they are and still were SWG.
To this day SWG offers unique features, such as housing, non-combat gear, ground and space hybrid game, avatar aproach to social structure, pvp, questing system, instances, and more.
But the realization hasn't changed. From day one SWG has suffered from incredibly poor realization and technical quality. During this time, everything has changed. Development teams, designers, database, support, administration, everything, except management.
SWG, despite all the advanced features, is an old, antiquated game. Its concepts long superseeded by either no fuss polished experiences of existing games, or the new and somewhat fresh content of upcoming games.
SWG is now at the state AO is in. AO is still surprisingly populated. They add random patches, offer all expansions, there's plenty of really friendly and helpful players. But that is all it will ever be.
Expertise, GCW, interface, these are aspects that need to be drawn out at design phase in entirety. Nothing more and nothing less. Alpha testing is then done to test these drafts and mold them based on user feedback. Beta test then fixes the bugs.
So according to project management, SWG is not even alpha. It's a prototype, a testbed.
MMOs have moved on above and beyond "a chat room with monsters and avatars". They went from your local round-about to become Disneyland. It may be "Star Wars" Galaxies, but despite common joke, turds with Star Wars logo don't really sell, except to very weird people. There's no money to be made there.
LEC will milk the license. For a very long time. It's all they exist to do. Will there be SWG? "Online" is the future. Even if not MMORPG, Massive, online, game, and multiplayer are the selling points. Will it be anything like SWG? Like pre-cu? Like KOTOR? Like LEGO SW?
It will be, "The Next Online Star Wars Game". It will come, it will be done, it will cause controversy once again.
But despite everything, many, if not all, knew that NGE was the end of SWG. Even those that didn't want to admit it, NGE was the "we're done with it". Even a highly positive attempt at an objective review will admit that.
How long will this SWG last? Well, definitely not long enough to see smuggler revamp, that much I'm betting on.
Know what? The rumor? Tell us more please and who is Tyler Durden?
Please?

WHO IS KEYSER SOZE?
SWG is doomed. To keep going, they need to accomplish these things:
1. Retain the subscribers they still have.
2. Entice back the subscribers they once had.
3. Attract new subscribers they never have had.
They aren't coming close to even succeeding with even one of those goals, subs continue to fall at a very fast pace, and their name is so bad in the industry that they have no chance of attracting new customers.
The bottom line is the subscriber number, as bad a pun as that is, and it's a line that is continually sloping downward, eventually to the point in the not too distant future that sub revenue no longer covers the cost of development, hosting, and support. Once they reach that point they have no choice but to shut down.
The only way out of course are classic servers, which I DO think they will eventually try. They are holding out as long as they dare because the instant pre-Cu is available again that is where the population immediately goes, and for all practical purposes the NGE is a dead letter. They'd then have to restart pre-CU development, and they don't want that, as not a single person they employ believe at ALL in any of the concepts that game was based on (they drove those employees away).
But that is the only hope they have to at least achieve goals #1 and #2. #3 would take care of itself if SOE would get out of the habit of continually pissing off their playerbase.

The funny part is TH responded to this post and referred him to the LucasArts & SOE Liscencing rumor thread...
Having access to a billion $ IP - Billions of dollars..
Having access to a massive fan base of said IP - Even more Billons...
Singly handedly alienating them due to stupidity - Priceless.
Despite what might possibly be bad blood, it wouldn't be quite, "right", for the lack of better word, to stab them in the back this way. Yes, it's business, but if LEC is really the silent partner here, then they have no beef with SOE and have no need to sabotage their business. If SOE is the silent partner, then they needed to coordinate the release of SWG:C long time ago and this had to be factored it.
So my guess would be sometime in November, or perhaps a bit later, especially since beta isn't expected for quite some time.
Another important thing here is, that the SWG hype must live on, and given the SOE's plans for expertise, the game indeed ends early by mid next year, at least with regard to development, which is just in time for beta of that new game.

SWG's market share acording to MMORPG Chart is 1.4%.
