Hey found some more information on it. Not a complete Level system yet:
"Advancement will be a combination of skill- and level-based. Not all skills and abilities will be available, because there are some radically distinct races in the game. Advancement will be level-driven. Players will choose skills from a tree structure. Yes, being maxed out may occur. Skills will not decay. There will be a buy-back."
heyve decided to work with a standard level based system with a possible specialization system (though this hasnt been finalized at this time) to increase character customization a skill/class hybrid... He went on to mention that they didnt want a game that would force players to grind. Rather, they wanted to create a game that would allow players to reach maximum level fairly easily allowing for a number of options if they find they dont like their initial choice... In addition to this, he mentioned that they were considering a sidekick system to enable players to group with friends who might be higher or lower level from themselves."
I Guess they dont want grinding so I am a little excited on how they are going to do that. Maybe make it easier to level and have a lot more skill based in it as well. It looks like it will be a hybrid.
SWEET that means that there will be more freedom to do what you want and possibly help your bros though I wonder how the end product will function can't what to see.
if this had great graphics very good plot and quest storyline. i love SG1 and SGA, if its as good and is immersive as say Ryzom them i will play it simply put im a happy hardcore space gamer. i even play wing commander and freespace just to show how hardcore i am.
what i mean by great plot and storyline is something like freespace or freelancer. you get deeply involved, such as kill these ships and keep protecting something only to find some unknown ships you cant target and it destroys more of less most of your fighter wing and the ship your protecting.
but if its something like straight kill bring it back some upgrades, go back straight kill come back more upgrades, you can forget it, another knight online!. bugged, lagged and terrible.
Originally posted by irish97 Cool loot, isn't more interesting. It's what every MMO does. Why the hell is there loot in a Stargate game? I want to play as an SG team member, what do I need loot for? When would you see an SG team member, asking his team mates to go on more missions cus he needs a new gun. This is silly.
agreed. it's a poor use of the IP to make SGW into another WoW clone. it may still be a decent game, but i don't think it'll stand out in any way (other than maybe it being a non-fantasy setting).
a fairly open-ended level based system like what Ryzom has would work for SGW, but i don't think the standard WoW style will work and leave the Stargate feel intact.

Also this is all subject to change
i hope they do settle on something that is more of a hybrid. i can understand the desire to use levels from a business standpoint - it's easy for players to pick up, play, and advance. obviously that sells - look at the success of WoW. i think this is what killed SWG. someone (most likely Lucas) decided that SWG should be as successful, so the SOE devs changed the game.
a system based on skill-based leveling of your chosen class could work without detracting from the setting. this would be especially nice if it's not a lengthy hardcore grind to increase ones skills...
First of all SGW wont be like another WOW because in WOW mostly everything you do is grind. There is an option for pvp or pve but other than that it gets very boring. As someone pointed out WOW gets boring after 30 days. Hopefully, from what I have read and seen SGW wont have a grinding system where you hunt mobs 24/7. Instead you embark on missions and procure technology, or try to destroy a enemy stronghold.
i dont think this game needs loot rewards like wow, i dont imagine like a SG group doing a mission and at final boss "epic gun... i need it" first i dont think this game cant have that kind of boss's, no point to enter in some place to kill mobs and than enter in a room with 1 last big ugly boss... this should follow the stories, we should choose our own faction and just do like the series... fight each other, explor the planets, try to conquer the planets, try to get technology to our guild/clan/faction (whatever) make or own allies and enemys etc... in PVP i would like yo see some cool special events like tournments clan vs clan i think that would be cool or Faction A try to conquer a planet and Faction B have to defende it... in PvE i think missions to explore the planet, so rescue some1, to help defend some NPC city, etc etc. and of coz we should can explore the planet by our own risk. just said somethings i would like to see
About the fight in space... hmm... if we (players) gonna have that change, you should look at Freelancer, let us fly like that would be cool... errrr... i think is to much what i said... well.. gonna keep dreaming with a game like that
Looking forward to this since I love the series. Could care less about levelling or skill based systmes I have played both and neither could be called a favorite. Just give me worlds to explore with my friends and some missions. Main thing no more wow style raiding if it requires over 10 people forget about it. Some players actually have jobs and can't hang around all week earning raid points.

People have tried level based systems, 100 times. That is whey they are saying it isn't what they hoped for. The game could have amazing features that keep it interesting for years (yea right), but the fact will be you either play warrior, ranger, etc. or you go home. You can't be a crafter who fights a little on the side. You can't be a ranged fighter who likes to heal a little. Just play your class and if you're lucky, spend your talent points to make you "unique".
Originally posted by slawcio Its just since they are doing a level based system they are takign away much potential they can use in the game. For example, if you have levels your also going to be limited to the class/profession you start with. I can see it now, they are goign to have Ranged/Melee/Healer/Caster. I also read that the "Currency" in the game is going to be Naquada. If naquada is going to be a currency does that mean that we wont be crafting weapons from naquada? I hope the guys making this game arent rookies like the ones that made Dark and Light. SO many high hopes for dark and light and when it came out its the biggest crap of a game there is. I guess only time will tell. I wish they wouldnt follow the game format thats out right now. But i can see why they would. Sony had a nonleveld game and supposubly it wasnt makign money so they did the NGE. WOW on the other hand is a level based game and it has 6 million subscribers. I would really want to see SGW be based on the Pre-CU SWG but it seems like they already decided on the level based system.
Lets not forget that the Pre-CU SWG System was a skll base game with "Hidden" levels. If you were a ranger you could actually see the levels of the mobs.
If implemented "Correctly" a level base game Could work for SGW, but I won't judge until it's out. I'd personally like to see NO CLASSES, as you level, you could spend "Skill points" on any skills that you wish to learn. This would be a good viable way of doing it, but like I said, this game is in early development. lets just wait and see what they have planned for it.
if they use a system like city of heros uses , except insted of lacky a higher lv can form a squad and the squad then shares lvls so that way the lvl difference isnt to bad, i mean really i am ex army when i first went into the field i didnt get sent out with a bunch of new recruits i was in the mix with new guys and vets....
that is one way they can fix the lvl gapping problem, i know that well i being devoirced and none of my other friends are so they get less time to play then i do so i waould always out lvl them and have to make a char that i would keep there lvl just to play woth them, we all tried city of villians and again i was able to out lvl most of them but being able to lacky someone made it possable for a friend to come with me to a place i would go
so there are ways to get around the grouping problem with a lvl based char growth , they just have to be smart enough to see them. the tv show sg1 had alot of military based every thing so they better make it to where higher lvl soldiers can take new recruits with them , wich would be a realistic trait
Level based systems are not all that bad. It just all depends on how they do it. They will just need to put content in that will allow for your lvl 45 and lvl 25 characters to interact together in a way that everyone will have something to do. Where someone is at 45 there gun fire, staff blast may be more accurate then those at the lower lvl. But when it does hit, it does damage all the same.
And gear for when you are doing these mixed lvl groups when equiped reflects the lvl. The stats at lvl 50 should be the best you can get, where the stats when equiped by a lvl 25 are 1/2 that. But still equipable all the same. As I have said in my other posts here. They just need to keep it fun, which is going to involve doing some old things, intermingled with some fresh new ideas.
There should be instanced and non instanced areas, but don't make the game live on instancing like Guild Wars. Instanced missions would be a good way to tie the high and low lvl players together. Just make some good stroy lines for the instanced areas, almost like a SG-1 show. The show are very linear, they go from point A to B with some cliff hangers in there. And these are things you could do for all races.
Personnally, I like levels. When something ain't broken, you don't change it.
I am all attention however, I wonder what they intend to put in "AFTER 50". I know I am such a big baby, and I actually cares a LOT and don't want anything remotedly similar to raiding. But Zeb is there, and in Zeb I trust! I might be wrong however, I don't know the guy! But heck, blind hope. Anyway, there is a whole team there and it will be a team decision, not an individual decision. And yeah, raiding is broken if anyone ever have the slightest doubt, if peoples who group to 50 don't like it as massively as now, it is obviously broken and not working...so I am all ears to what they are bringing. Might remove all my interest in a single moment; as "how it end" matter that much too me, I am fine with a pure ending, but if you go for something else, it better be fun; for a grouper...or not affect the groupers, which would be indeed quite fine, as the grouping game is for every purpose over, whatever come after; if it doesn't affect grouping in anyway is of no consequences if a grouper dislike it.
