Actuall in the 3 years ive been playing eve ive only ever heard of 2 such scams so no they are not very common as far as i can see. This is because most of us recognises the scam in IPO's.

To answer this simply, YES, it can be done. Scams are VERY popular in Eve and is NOT against the EULA. There are many ways of pulling off a scam and I do know of a guy that made 1 bil in 1 month.

Well, GOOD scams aren't frequent.  Everybody wants to make money, some people are simply willing to screw others over in order to do it.  Though, most scams never get off the ground, every now and then something spectacular (in the sense that is was just monstrously huge) happens.  EIB is an example.  But, I usually follow the rule, "If I don't know 'em... like hell they're gettin my money!"

We can agree to disagree, or we can bicker constantly... either way, I'm right.

There was also the Currin Trading scam, not sure how much he made

There are only 10 types of people in this world, those that understand binary and those that don't

Yeah I know normal scams are popular, but was talking about IPO scam that require these who get scammed put a lot of trust to scammer before its even possible. So there has been 2 such big scam, EIB and that one before that made big fuzz about it and gms ended up mess up with it when they returned isk to these who got scammed and later to scammer also (it was about 30bil).

700bil has value over 100.000$ (even if ebay is illegal), so that make whole guiding hand social club scam look small.

Dunno why you're making such a big deal about it. You can scam anyone in any game. Create a guild and steal everyone's items after they stockpile a bunch after a few months, or group with people to take down a mob, just to change the loot type at the very end and take the loot off the named mob...

Yes they are popular...before my accounts misfourtune...I identified four such scams.  About once every 6-7 months.

The way they do this is so damn complicated, people fall for it.  After all anyone that takes that much time to do the bussness plans and mathmatics, and all the other info....well hell it must be real good and honest.

The problem is, there is no way in Eve to make an investment that pays off.  You can buy shares, and if the controlling character wants to he can pay out dividends.  But if he goes on vacation, or gets "T" boned by a speeding 18 wheeler....well your just out of luck.  Or one day he says "I going to play WoW, tonight..."

Zeppo is one of the better scamers out there....Lab slots was the scam.  "Selling Lab slots in Jita V-II"

Or he would find some, ebay newbie and say "I can see your new to the game.  And your flying a BS.  I am willing to make sure you got it equiped right for say 1000isk.  All you have to do is dock and trade the ship to me for a few minutes."

This happens about once a week  LOL

So if you go into Eve...dont trust a soul...

700bil that is over 100k$ worth of in game assets and it scammed is a big deal. Biggest scam I have ever heard of in any mmorpg, so well played who ever pulled that of.

And yeah I know it's possible in other games, but in time of blessed/indestructible/bind on pick up item mmorpgs its rare to see anything like that.

I think that 700 bil scam was done by the gentlemans club it took months to do and a lot of that cash was from bluprints.

I don't think they're popular, for the simple fact that this is a harsh environment, very few people are gonna give all their money to some guy unsecured with no way of getting it back.

    And I also don't believe it's 700 bil.

You aint gonna find enough suckers in Eve to fall for that.
