I almost subscribed

I started playing the trial a week or two ago comming off a year long break from gamming and have been really enjoying it.  I almost subscribed once, but I keep reading about the Main land and hows there is nothing there to do.

I understand what Ryzom is, I understand the sandbox aspect and we aren't going to hold your hand through a bunch of quests, but there are several reasons I am having second thoughts.

I get real bored real fast of killing the same mobs over and over again, and the questing in the trial has kept me from doing that.  I don't have time to hook up with people usually unless we are allready doing the same thing.  Exploring and trekking sound kind of fun though, but I like activities to have a point, and I know the point is the activity.

I'm really on the fence, with this game.  If Ryzom ring is as good as I think it could be I would be in this game real soon though.

    Well, I’ll
be honest, if you intend to concentrate on combat skills skills probably will end
up doing some grinding or grouping for the first two months or so, and it can
get a bit tiresome if you insist on leveling one skill to the top first (and to
be honest this is not recommended). But stating that, there will be a lot other
things involved too. You cant level without a fair share of exploring (unless you
are willing to level on very low exp mobs), and even grinding is a lot more
interesting because of the predators lurking around every corner. So mostly it’s
a lot more than got to location and kill x mobs to level up, and need to stay
alert all of the time, it can be a very unforgiving game. But also even though
I’m a definitively solo player ( I like to relax, put on some music on and solo
level most of the time), grouping in Ryzom came to me as very painless, I guess
it has something to do with the maturity of people and the fact that almost everyone
can level together (same person can have many skills on very various levels). But
you sure can just wait for Ring, knowing the community I can say that we will
see some great things from it ;P

    Oh, and one
more thing, a guild is one of the first things you need on the mainland. First
of all, you will get info on best hunting grounds, second, you will get outfitted
in best gear for your level (as most guilds have designated crafters and foragers
who will make custom equip specified for your needs) ands also cats, which
    double your exp input.

A guild certainly helps with all of those but I've gotten all that help without joining a guild too. So you shouldn't feel pressureised to join untill you find one you really want to be a member off.
