Might want to think about getting yourself one of these, riki.

Hopefully the airforce will help teach you something about modesty etc.

Haha, That's a good one. The Air Force don't do the dying just the flying. Unless you go into Para-rescue or Combat Control then maybe.

Also, Riki, if you want to be a door gunner on a chopper you have to be a minimum rank E-3 I believe and you have to do what is known as cross-training. Basically you join do your job for a couple of years then transfer.

Sorry for making it sound like its co-ed, cuz its not, but then it sorta is. You get to see the girls but you don't really get to talk to them or hang out with them accept during one or 2 breaks, but if your the fire monitor you talk to them every night, be sweet and during the one day off you get maybe you can hang out with them in San Antonio.

Also (this may have changed by now) basic training is only 30 days long(weekends don't count)or around 6 weeks, it's over fast.

No, c-4 for you. Unless you go EOD, or Ammo. But you do get to shoot the gun which is always fun.

You should be ok on the physical part of training most people break down over the mental challenges so get your brain ready(lots of mind games) they told my flight we were all going to be recycled to the begining,

Hopefully you end up in flight 323 otherwise known as Tasmania when I went through and the hardest. Everone who goes through that flight is pretty cool when they come out. There are some others(see if I can remember) Little Russia, Disnyland, aw hell I forget the rest of the names now. Oh well if you have any other questions just ask.

P.S. Bring nothing with you(they will dump your bag and search it and make fun of you for anything you had in it. ie. no condoms, no cds, no goofy shit.

P.S.S. Don't shave your head they will shave it again anyways lol, and wear a plain t-shirt and regular jeans.

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

Things might have changed since I was in. Also it might be different when concerning the reserves but I believe they want minimun ranks due to the fact that it is a special ops job based out of Hurlburt Field in Florida.

No, you take out the trash right before lights out.

Well, when I went to basic we shot the gun once and that was it, although I did hear they were having you guys keep your guns with you at all times. You probably will never see c-4 let alone touch it. Although the c-4 that was made before 1972 can get you high by putting it in your mouth like chewing tobacco.

Flights are like your group formations, similar to a platoon. Try checking out the base web page(http://www.lackland.af.mil/) or talk to your recruiter but its totally random which flight you get I believe.

P.S. Bring nothing with you(they will dump your bag and search it and make fun of you for anything you had in it. ie. no condoms, no cds, no goofy shit. LOL, are we talking just for basic training? Wow can't even bring a cellphone eh? Who would bring a condem?

Everything you bring with you will be put away into a closet until the day you leave for tech school. Who would bring a condem, one guy brought a hundred pack with him and the Training Instructor was all over his ass for the rest of training.

P.S.S. Don't shave your head they will shave it again anyways lol, and wear a plain t-shirt and regular jeans. Gotch ya.

    Good. LOL!

    First off, congrats!

Second: Like someone else said, the military is not the easiest job in the world, but it does have its benefits. Go to Basic with the clear purpose to do your best and learn.

Third: Choose a job that either interests you, or one that will help you in the future after your service. Hopefully, you can find one that does both.

The mind games are just that games…deal with them and don’t let them get you down you are only there for two months or less. Lesser people than you have made it through, (remember that when and if it gets tough).

I did six years in the military and they were some of the best times of my life.

Cheers, and thank you for serving our counrty

*edit* Listen to seabass, he has given you a lot of good info!

I shoot for the curve... anything above that is gravy.

A calling card might be better because you can have one of those, as far as a cell phone not sure when I went through cell phones a) either didn't exist or b) were very expensive. I went through in 93.

Yes, tech school is the training you go through for your actual job.

Also, did you get a gauranteed job or is it a gauranteed career field. This is a trick recruiters like to pull as there is a huge difference between the 2.

Ahh ok. I guess i'll talk to the recruiter about that. Do you do tech right after training or is there a little break in between? Well I didn't pick yet your had a long chat with the recruiter. I know I did with the army recruiter. But what did you mean by the two. Educate me bro.

No, breaks between Basic Training and Tech School that I know of. At least I didn't get one.

A gauranteed job is just that, an actual job that is gauranteed to be yours upon completion of basic training(ie. Muntions Systems Apprentice or Crew Chief for F117 or Loadmaster).

A gauranteed career field is where your career field is gauranteed(ie. Mechanical Career Field, any job that has to do with mechanics, Electronical Career Field, any job that has to do with electronics)

    I was a 2w051a.

If there is anything else just keep asking.

    1. How old are you? since you are not intersted in military service as a career, decide from the start what you want out of it. USAF modern is alot more tech than it was a few decads ago. And all the services are severly depleted in #s, so if you stick it out for a few tours and you have the aptitudes (skills) you can get serious incentives ($) to stick with it.

    2. College vs tech training and getting out there making bank asp... If you had the sat scores getting scholarships and grants would not be that much of a problem, vs no contribution from parents and having to incur huge loans (room, board, tuition, books, living extras) you have to pay back with 4 & 8% interest. Goto a local university guidance department and have them give you aptitude tests to get some reference how you compare to other people in various ocupations... like, do you have interests more in commen with AF officers, flourist, undertakers, MSCE techs... see how you compare. Discuss your aims with the AF recruiting officer (and try the USMC if you got the physical skills & can shoot well, the army & navy recruiters) and get in writing what he has to offer so you not spend the next 4 yrs walking a dog patroling a runway or working on diesels in the motor pool ! Can you speak a foreign language?

    3. Military service means you may have to kill people. Have you ever seen a dead person? Can you live with yourself if you have to kill kids and/or women trying to kill you and your fellow soldiers?
Have you ever done rotc in high school to get the basics of close order drill (marching, giving orders to fellow troops;) can you do 12 or 14 min two mile run carrying a 30 or 70 lb load, can you do 100 pushups, 30 sit-ups in a minute, 20 or 50 chin-ups with a 20 lb weight, or swim a mile. Can you follow orders and remember instructions; if you mess up not only can you die but you can get others killed.

    4. It is not realistic to intend to just be in the reserves, notice quite a few reserve units are in Afgan & Iraq now.

It's a pretty good score but I want a damn good score. I had scholarships but they backed up on me becuase of my race (long ass story). I'm going to see if I can get more. Can't you get scholarships out of High School? I got a 1k one comming. Goto a local university guidance department and have them give you aptitude tests to get some reference how you compare to other people in various ocupations... like, do you have interests more in commen with AF officers, flourist, undertakers, MSCE techs... see how you compare. I got you. Can you speak a foreign language? Japanese and  . . . Spanish a little. I'm kick ass in English.

    3. Military service means you may have to kill people. Have you ever seen a dead person? ...nope Can you live with yourself if you have to kill kids and/or women trying to kill you and your fellow soldiers? I think I can...

I thought I wouldn't need to until my scholarships went though. I actually did take a Drill Team thing when I was a kid. We had to do ROTC stuff.

    4. It is not realistic to intend to just be in the reserves, notice quite a few reserve units are in Afgan & Iraq now. If you mean that being in the reserves is about not seeing action or being in it, then that is not what I'm thinking. I know I'll be there when I'm in soon...

    Thanks for the infomation.
