MMORPG.com We need your HELP

TorakTorak Member Posts: 4,905

As some of you might know, I am a big fan of Lineage 2.

Yesterday NCSoft opened a new server (Franz). After logging onto the server ALL of the starter areas where flooded with bots. (no surprise, right?) It was disgraceful.

There are many fans and good players of this game. Many of us do the right thing. We do not bot, we do not buy currency, and we treat our fellow players with respect. NCSoft has let us down. They allow blatant violations of their own rules and punish us that speak out.

I'm not appealing for the support of L2 as I know some of you hate the game, but as fellow MMORPGers. These activities exist in all MMO's. Help us at least be heard.

MMORPG.com please, I ask with all due humble respect, help give us a voice against this despicable situation. Look for yourselves, run an editorial...anything.

Our threads are locked and deleted on the official boards while hundreds of bots (thousands game wide) are free to do as they wish.

Help us find a voice. I'm not asking you like the game or play it. Help us get a message to NCSoft. I have already cancelled. I can not tolerate this blatant disreguard and disrespect for the legit players any longer.

NcSoft might be the only MMO company that's 100% ban happy when it comes to people that want the game to be free of cheaters. On the other hand it's nearly impossible to get any kind of cheaters banned since NcSoft denies to do anything about them.

I've never seen such a horrible support. You report a cheater, they give you a standard reply. Then they forget about it if you are lucky. If they think you complain too much about cheaters you might just say good bye to your account.

Here a screen from their new server Franz:

As you can see, farmers and botters don't even take their time to think of a char name because they know NcSoft won't do anything anyway.

    Just sad.

Edit: As written on the l2 general discussion thread - this is not a screenshot i made. It was posted to both l2guru and retail forums.

That's by far the most hilarious screenshot of L2 ever. You should post in user submitted screenshots

I'm not sure if the site itself will offer any assistance, however you can keep this thread, and discussion, alive.

Bots can only thrive in a game with shoddy design.

That claim is totally wrong and not related at all  to this thread. Make a new thread instead of hijacking this one if you really want to discuss and I am happy to reply.

You've done a good thing and reported public awareness of how badly bots seem to rule L2. Even if it's a new server, the fact the bots appear and are undealt with is an indication of what may well be happening on other older servers. The L2 community will react,in time.

Sounds like NCSoft faces 'In The Red' part deux unless they do something about this.

I don't think design has that much of an affect. Rather, I'd argue it's how well a game is moderated.

It's entirely appropos to this thread. You are free to disagree, but I firmly believe this.

Design is everything. A game with highly predictable behavior can easily be botted. A game that requires re-evaluation of tactics makes it very difficult for a bot to thrive.

It's endemic in the design of Lineage II, which is a massive grindfest of repetitive action.

So we got a thread on NcSoft L2 support and their stance of cheaters here. And you start a general discussion on bots and their reasons doing a totally unrelated claim you can't even support. Well done. That's of course not trying to hijack a thread with totally unrelated postings.

I offered you to do that discussion in a thread were it fits but I guess you just want to troll? Thanks a lot.

I personally don't care what you think of the game/design/whatever itself, its the point of the matter. This happens to some degree in all MMO's.

You can bury your head in the sand and laugh haha at L2 but just go take a look at IGE and see if your game is listed on there. Then come back here.

L2 is the just imploding with bots now. How long until it becomes a problem somewhere else?

Whatever you think, just keep this thread alive.

I sat down one day and wrote down every single jibberish named-bot I saw, included the locations, and length of time they were there. This went on for roughly one week, figured it was my good deed for the month or something.

I composed a very nice, polite email including all of those names, length of time at location, and locations, and sent it off to NC Soft.

I got the typical canned reply in email form that you would normally get from using the petition/help system in game.

So after the lack of action, dedication and care from NCSoft regarding one of their biggest properties, I simply decided to cancel my acct and to never to pay a L2 sub again.

What you don't understand is that Korean players rule the L2 universe.  American players are but a small drop in the bucket.

And Korean players fully consider ebaying/purchasing items to be a completely normal means of getting money/gear in MMO's.   NCSoft is not going to do anything to upset the vast majority of the games playerbase just because a few thousand American players think botting/farming is wrong.

You want proof?   How well have they tackled the issue so far to date?   There's a reason behind that....

Yeah, all those people who think this is strickly an L2 problem need to wake the f**k up. Bots/farmers are rampid in all of these games.

Go look at IGE and find your favorite game. You think all that currency magically appears there? No, they farm it. Right in front of you probably.

  • ElnatorElnator Member Posts: 6,077
    Bots exist in all games
But in L2 they're a way of life.  In no other game that I have ever played have I seen botting as rampant as it is in L2.

Most MMO's at least try to stop it.  NCSoft doesn't even bother.

What you guys need to keep in mind is that L2 is 100% non-instanced.

There's no place where a bot can do its thing where it doesn't run the chance of being spotted.

normally Elnator, I would jump up and down and say your wrong, but unfortunately....because of the players, you are right.

The players have made them an integral part of the game. Thanks currency buyers. You're swell.

It's not the players.  People buy currency in every MMO I have ever seen.
In L2 nothing happens to botters.  Nothing.  ZERO... ZIP... NADA

Christ there were even Bots during Beta of this sucker.  I know because I was there.  And the Devs, even then, ignored them.  When there is no negative repercussion for botting it just goes insane, as proved in L2.  In EQ, WoW, etc.... the GM's will at the very least suspend bot accounts when they catch them, and most ban them.  This makes it hard for botters in those games to get a solid foothold without being VERY careful.  Thus there are fewer of them.  In L2, however, bots are rampant because they don't have to be careful, they don't have to hide.... they don't even have to monitor the bot.
