I think golf is the best MMO sports game. You have stats (power, accuracy, spin, control) and you have all kinds of skill you could level up (fade, draw, chips, putting, pitches, flop, low shot, high shot, etc etc...) Plus you could keep it fresh with tournaments, head to head stuff, guild battles, new courses, user created courses, etc etc. Game modes are also plenty from 4 somes to skins, to partners, to whatever you want. I think blizzard could pull it off. I imagine courses being created from their game worlds and using blizzard chars. Of course they could also make realistic courses and sell cosmetics only in the item shop. I think the gameplay would have to be fairly intricate though IMO Links 2001 / 2003 was the best golf game. There was a lot of strategy / practice that went into being good. You had to read the lie (slope/ elevation) and there were varying green speeds and some you had to know your 1/2 or 3/4 shots or your balls was spinning off the green. Shot online also did a pretty good job of creating strategic gameplay, but they also went extreme pay to win. Tiger Woods games were fun and had some cool scenarios and what not, but they were not as involved gameplay wise. I would love to see an AAA game company make a soild golf MMO, but it seems to be a pipe dream. We cant even get Mario Golf on the switch although it is supposedly in the works.
I guess a lot of people do really like golf. For some reason.

Golf is pretty much the easiest sport to make a game for.No Blizzard couldn't pull anything off, every single one of their games is done half assed.
Could a boxing game work? Most certainly ,ANY game could work we just need the effort from the developer.
This is where i can use an easy example of how the industry operates right now.So we have Fortnite, supposed to be a mmorpg but after the big money success of BR's,PUBG Epic decides to stop developing 3 of it's games including Fortnite. So they instead decide to do no further developing of Fortnite and just turn it into a BR.After that they work on how to implement the cash shop and whallaa they made millions from LESS effort, almost NO effort.
Studios aim at the current marketplace, what is selling, what brand is selling and then make superficial builds and they just sell on popularity alone.
On the same topic of Boxing,i could design one to be an amazing game,i know boxing inside and out,i know all sports in and out i played them all my entire life.Would any developer build my dream boxing game, nope, they would want to build something cheap, fast and with a cash shop.I could probably predict how they would go about building one.

My brain won't process boxing or golf as a mmorpg. But stranger things have happened. Hello Kitty Online happened.
Several golf games already have competitive online tournament modes.
You just need to disregard the first M of mmorpg and use a liberal interpretation of the rpg part and presto, you have a golf mmorpg.
It's not like this hasn't been done here multiple times to call whatever they feel like calling an mmorpg one.
Hell, path of exile has even made the best mmorpg of the year list here several times.
