I had high hopes for this game, I mean D&D to me means open ended sandbox type of questing.  This is not DDO, I was in beta and was suckered into preordering thinking that as I moved into the higher lvl content it would become open ended, nothing is further from the truth.  One large city, everything is instanced, linear, total lack of depth, the list goes on and on.  I'm still scratching my head on how they charge a monthly fee, its like Guild Wars but much more linear and minus the fun.  I played my month that came with the retail for maybe two weeks and canceled, so with the headstart beta character I played for around 4 weeks before realizing that this is really all there is.  Biggest disappointment in a long time and a total waste of the D&D license.

DDO's biggest problem is the incredibly stupid belief that people will be happy and entertained with the same content over and over simply becuase they give an xp bonus for repeating it.

That people who make mmo's for a living could have such an insane premise is almost beyond belief. That they as far back as alpha ignored the voices of people who told them the premise was insane is staggering

Its all just more proof that there should be a permenant ban system for game devs.

They should never be allowed to even dream of even fetching coffee for people who make the mmo after theirs, if they screw up theirs.

Make the damn devs be required to get a license to make mmos.Make it a federal license and make it so customers of any mmo that failed to meet a required and declared before production success rating(that the devs must register as part of the license),they were involved in can approach the licensing board and start a motion to ban a dev.If enough customers say "aye" to the motion, that dev is banned forever from even dreaming about mmos on punishment of life in prision.

    And no, im not kidding.

Heh I love it how people always look so much forward to games and that they get dissapointed t hem, sure sucks for them, but teaches you not to get high expectations of stuff. If you dont expectate much, you can't get dissapointed

I went Wal-Mart or someplace to buy this .. the clerk told me do the free trial first , because most of the kids in the department store had horror stories about the game. So I download the game, thinking YAY D&D finally , maybe I explore the world and get awesome gear...

I played it for 10 days , I didnt know any of the character classes , the feats or systems... I played D&D in 80s and low 90s ... But the armor , models and animation looked terrible. I didnt mind it , I played D&D PC games with much worst graphics.. The instances killed the experience for me, I felt I was like a traintracks , and finding a group was worst than FiF 11.

I came back to it a few months later when they said they had solo stuff in and improved armor graphics... Its a terrible evil game.  My brother asked me why I was playing a crappy Guild Wars which would have been free.

Not even close. Matrix Online is the worst ever. At least DDO was interesting for the first 5 minutes.

Actually, DnL is by far the worst game ever made, anyone who tried it will tell you that.

But DnD is pretty awful, repeat same quests over and over, bad graphics, terrible lag, rude GMs, shelf life of maybe three weeks to "beat" the game, if you take it slow.

You can max a charactor, or lvl 8-9 at least in the trial. Then you buy iot and what? Repeat the same dungeons again and again to max another? Piss-poor effort, to say the least.

So... did you even try the game? There is no experince bonus for repeating quests. You actually recieve less loot and xp for each additional run that you make. Hell, there is even a system in place, Favor, that encourages you to try all of the quests and not simply spend your time repeating them over and over.

Nice :)  Asside from the fact that numerous extremely detailed posts have pointed out numerous times EXACTLY what most folks find wrong with the game.

DDO isn't a BAD game.... imo... it's just not worth a monthly fee.... again imo.... only problem for Turbine is that my opinion matches the vast majority of people who have tried the game.  It's dying.  Populations across all servers continue to drop.

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

To be honest, I'm glad DDO is dying. It should. You make a sub-par game, you deserve what you get, Turbine. I just wish the game would die faster than it is, more devs need to be held accountable for releasing unfinished, poorly coded games like DDO and DnL.

The game is not worth even the $9.99 you can get it for in the bargin bins at Target. But no one should be surprised, AC2 anyone?

Great concept, but poorly executed and designed.

Tried: Vanguard, UO, Rappelz, Archlord, RF Online, SWG, WAR, Ryzom, Anarchy Online, AC, APB, STO, Perfect World, Black Prophecy...

Played: EQ,EQII, Lineage, Lineage 2, GW, EVE Online, AoC, DoAC, iRO, AC2, WoW, SWTOR, Runes of Magic, Allods, Rift..
    Currently Playing: Tera

I'll drop in for a rant.

The game is fundamentally fun but its longevity is seriously flawed. There is maybe 50 hours of content if you do every quest once, then youre jus repeating quests and fighting against the devs to find ways to farm.

When an MMO first comes out and you get to the highest level and run out of things to do in 3 weeks of 3-4 hour play sessions something is wrong. By the time I got my paladin to level 9 I had already done every quest in the game. To hell with repeating the same dungeons over and over again just to get to 10. It was at this point I realized how sad this game is. This game would have been sweet if it had a persistant world instead of just a town.

I like the graphics and totaly loved the combat system and ruleset but there was just nothing to do but repeat the exactr same material over and over and over and over and over and over..........

edit: To me it seems like they just slapped this game together to make a quick buck so they would have some money for LoTR. This game is so laking that it does not deserve to even have a monthly fee.

It is a great action game with a RPG skin, kinda like what Baldur's Gate on the Xbox is...but maybe better, a little.

However, their lie about real D&D and all, that is almost as bad as when Aradune talk about how solo/group are been developped in Vanguard...almost as bad.  They try to draw the wrong players, in both case, and later they wonder why they get soo much flaming...lol.  Kinda like a guy saying he is black on the internet and turn out to be white while meeting the girls for real...

I got it on release, maxed my toon in 2 weeks and couldn't stand the thought of doing it again with another, never played anymore.

I recently did the trial to try it out again. In 5 or 6 days playing got two toons to 7 and couldn't stand the thought of playing the exact same dungeons again and again. This game is a failer in my opinion.

By your, oh I dunno, tenth time in the exact same dungeon, you know where every chest, trap, ladder, mob is. You know before hand which spells/skills exactly will be needed for each mob in the dungeon, where and at what level and number of, the mobs will spawn.

No wonder everyone runs like hell through them, there is absolutely no surprises, no exploration, and no caution needed. When you form a team, everyone debates which dungeon they want to run based on the group makeup, what spells people have equipped and so on. Its like being forced to read the same Archie comic over and over, and be expected to laugh at the same jokes everytime.

    This game is pathetic.

I have watched this game being played, and the dungeons seem pretty cool the first time through. It seemed to me the issue is not enough content and little balance things, like f-ing over multiclassing.

Also, dont feel too bad they didnt listen to the beta testers...I know a few guys that got paid to test this game(I used to work for one the companies involved) and they didnt listen to them either.

My opinion doesn't really count at all because well, I haven't played the game. I don't really have anything to say but was just going to ask wether they are updating the game? I thought that one of the main aspects of MMORPGS was that they grew and changed. I'm under the impression that if the creators of DDO were a good team that they would be constantly building and adding to the game. Maybe this is not the case? If not, I'm sorry to hear that everyone is as dissapointed as they are and hope that noone wasted too much money on the game.

I really get a laugh out of all those people that think DDO is a complete waste of time. PEOPLE wake up, Pen and Paper DnD is far too complex to bring the exact feel to an online game. This has been an issue since the dawn of PC games, it can be denied. If your looking for an online game that matches exactly how its played on the table top, your going to be sorely dissapointed with most MMOs based off popular board games. But if thats your idea of what gaming online should be, i suggest you find a nice chess or checkers game, better yet, dont play online at all and stick to your table top gaming.

For those of you who ARENT looking for an exact reproduction of board game, but instead something that can still deliver the spirit and feel of it, DDO is as good as any other. Ive played every DnD PC game out there, inculding back on the BBS boards. And over the years ive seen DnD come a long way, both on the table top and on the PC. By far and away this game is the best attempt ive seen made at the series. Yes the rules are not EXACT, but this game is being played by thousands of players of all age types and backgrounds. Therefore some rules need to be changed or bent or even rewritten in order to make gameplay possible or even plausable online.

DnD table top was never about a single hero defeating everything in his/her path, it was about a group of people coming to together and uniting to complete the task set before them. This was one the heart and soul of Gary Gygax's original DnD material. I and friends of mine STILL table top with Gary and even over 25+ years later, that rule has never changed.

This game was not designed to be a solo type adventure, (though a lot more solo content has been added from constant whiners) it wasnt designed to be an EXACT copy of 3.5 rules, it wasnt intended to be geared towards the hard core players or the general ones. Games like this are created to be a form of entertainment, and every person has his or her own idea of what "fun" is. But to come out and say that this game is a disaster or a joke because its not EXACTLY like table top or what they are used to playing is riddiculous. You cannot expect any company that when it has an audience of tens of thousands to please everyone all the time. All you can do is get as close to what your feedback provides and hope it brings a sense of fun to whomever the game is played by.

Ive played this game from BETA and i can honestly say everytime i play the game, no matter WHO im adventuring with, be it close friends or strangers, i always have a great time because im surrounded by people in the game who know although its not PERFECT, its still enjoyable to play and share stories.

The game has great potential even if its not EXACT, i would still encourage those looking for something new and fun to give it a try.

Played the beta and played the trial. I'd rather have my testicles removed with bailing wire and a monster truck than play this sorry excuse for a DnD game. Just MHO::::09::

I'm still enjoying DDO everyone Sunday night with friends.  We don't play much, and we take are sweet time going through the games content, but aside from all of the complaints I hear about the game, I think that it is a refreshing mmo, with some innovative features, especially the combat and group oriented quests.

I think it feels a lot like Dungeons and Dragons, although I prefer Forgotten Realms over Ebberon.  I am really looking forward to NWN2, but I will continue to play though DDO.

I'm still having fun with DDO (started in the beta) and it's improving steadily with each months addition but of course that's IMO. Pray tell, is there any game worth your time mr wordsmith? Or do you just travel the wide ranging roads through all the game forums bringing your vast knowledge of online gaming?

DDO is not the best game or the worst game (and I'm played most of them starting with UO) but it's kept me interested longer than any other game I've played in the last couple years.
