I had preordered DDO and played it during the last part of beta. When it came time to plop down the final block of money to buy the game, I ended up feeling it wasn't worth it.
Having read a post in these forums pointing that it was now $15 @ newegg, combined with the fact that a buddy of mine at work has played it since preorder, I decided to get it.
What originally bothered me about DDO was the fact that dungeons were so rinse and repeat. A *secret* door, once found, is always there the next go around. So if you're a rogue, your job isn't to find traps and detect secret doors as in the days of old (pnp), your job is more like other MMO's where it's to reveal and disarm.
The realy thing I need to keep in mind is, this isn't Dungeons and Dragons. This is Dungeons and Dragons the MMO. The only thing it has in common with pnp is the setting and the rules. Sure some things are a little different, but the basic principles of D&D what powers the game.
Having said that, it's most important for anyone coming to this game to realize it's an instance based, small world, MMO. There is no exploration. If you join up with anyone that has played the game for any period of time, there is no discovery.
I'm currently playing DDO until something else is released, but I don't see it holding my interest like WoW/SWG (of old) or other larger games (exploration, size, etc.)

- however the lack of PvP or any other content in the game is what really makes it boring - once u reach the max lvl - there is NOTHING left for u to do (except to start over with a new character or visit the same quest over and over and over and over and over and over again) - just seem pointless (espically since u can reach the highest lvl and see all the quests in about 1-2 weeks) - i cant really understand ppl who actually P2P this game - its a really nice game but paying a monthly fee for it.... is not something i would do.
btw... i was a CB tester for this game and i went to try the free 7 days trial a month ago - wierd but there were MORE ppl online during the CB then there are now - i guess the game is going the same way DnL went.... tooo bad - we really do need a good game to play ("crossing my fingers for lotr online or AoC")
