R U SEIROUS? Those are the two best groups. Who wouldn't want to be Gandalf the Grey/White or even Saruman. OR wat about the King of Men, he was a ranger.
There is the Hunter class. It's probably close to what you knoe from other games. "Ranger" has a whole different meaning in LOTRO lore so and as Tolkien Enterprises (owner of the license) shutters at the thought of letting gamers bastardize the idea of a "Ranger", it isn't an option.
Wizards are almost the same way in that there were only 5 in Middle Earth at this time the game is set and those 5 were all of the same race and that race isn't one of the 4 we can choose from. As wizards have to be of that race, wizards can't be played. I think this was done mainly to keep magic on the level you saw in the movies and more toward the books and not the fireball Ping Pong that most games have today. There is a class called Loremaster that is pseudo-mage. No magic fireballs but instead molotav-cocktails(ish).
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
Vrael, maybe this game isn't for you. There are no rangers or wizards because they're exceedingly rare in Middle Earth and Turbine is staying true to the lore. They stand to make much more money through the loyal Tolkien fans than they do by catering to the movie fans or those that just want to be kool.
Well im not just a fan of the movies, i read all 3 of the books, 4 if u count the Hobbit. Pertsonally the movies were great, but no tas good as the books.
i'm new to this site and i just saw this upcoming game. i'll tell u i'm excited to play it. i can't hype it because i don't have a high enough level but if i could i would......legolas prepare to meet your match!!!!!
You can still play as Ranger or Wizard. Just roleplay and name your character 'EarO'Korn' or 'PropaGandalf'. The onlly thing you can't do apparently is be and Orc or slay Hobbits by the thousands, or anything else remotely interesting.

No you cant. There are no ranger or wizard classes. You could pretend to be one if you dont mind looking stupid.
As for being an orc or slaying hobbits - I am sure you can find a game somewhere that will let you do this - its just not this one.

That appears to be old news. The latest devlog reports on "Monster play", where you can get inside an orc and kill those hobbits... you may not get thousands of them, but you can certainly take your best shot at any that come into your vicinity. If you do well, you may be able to skill up to an Uruk-hai or even a troll.
Your comment about "play as a Ranger or Wizard" may be a bit misleading, since your character won't have the skills of a Ranger or Wizard... they're not in the game as player characters.

Yeah, too bad they arent making anything worthy for the loyal Tolkien fans. Ive been reading Tolkien since i was a child (25+ years) and this LOTR MMO game sucks, especially compared to the original MEO design. This game couldve been so much better. Turbine turned it to crap.

ya to me the rangers and wizards were a huge plus for me to read it, i havent been able to read it for 25+ because im not that old, but how couldnt u have Rangers. Gandalf saved the day quite a many times(exp, Helms Deep, Mines Of Moria) and Aragorn, a Ranger was the King of Men. I just don't see how they couldn't have them in it. Im beggining to agree with u Ammon777. (Reason No wizards even though they r awesome, it just wouldn't be fair with the magic

Well if you read the appendices to LOTR or the Silmarillion you would know that Gandalf, Saruman, Sauron the Balrog etc are essentially demi-gods in mortal form. So how could you seriously have 10,000 people running around as demi-gods. ie Gandalf dies in Moria and is reborn as Gandalf the White. THe Valar send him back as his job isn't done yet.
So the idea of playing a wizard is just ridiculous. As for Rangers - Rangers arent a class in LOTR they are a nation - like the Rohirrm, or Gondor. Albeit a scattered and almost destroyed nation.
Even the Elves you get to play are the low powered Sindarin and not the more powerful Noldor.
From what I have read so far I think they have done an excellent job of staying true to LOTR.

It's not drastically different, really. That's just a popular quip people like to float out by those who, for some reason or another, have something against Turbine. The thought that Turbine may be constrained in some of the things they implement or, as some like to view it, leave out never crosses some folks' mind. They conviently forget that their is a governing force that oversees how and what they put in and if it is deemed too much of a stretch against the lore it gets nixed.
Nah, it's much easier to just say Turbine sucks via drive-by posting.

Thats because female dwarves look just like male dwarves, including the beard!
I guess this is where Role Playing will enter the fray for the truly ambitious female dwarf player :P
