Dude...I bought a Dell.....

Yeah, I got lazy...I decided not to build my own computer and looked around some.  Well Dell seemed like the best deal, custom made for me.  So I loged on to Dell.com, used my companies discount, and started the build.  Wow, this thing is going to ROCK.  I wont have to update, or upgrade for along time.  Thousands of dollars being spent!!

Well, here is the problem, their comercials and web sight are missleading.  Bought and paid for on the the 7th of Sept....Shipping date 20th Sept.

Well I dont know about you all, but it only takes me 5 hours to assymble and program a computer(depending on parts on hand).  13days seems a little long to me, espicially if its paid for already!

After building my own and noticing the money I saved, the power I obtained and the great look of my new computer, I will definately never buy a computer from a store ever again. Free of crappy built in software and poor manufacturing Home built computers are the best way to go. If you built your own computer you won't have to upgrade for a long time either and when it is time to upgrade you will have no trouble at all doing it yourself.

Dells are great computers for people whose expertise stops at turning on the computer, connecting to the internet, and playing games. I recommend a Dell, HP, eMachine, etc, to people who are not even in the slightest sense 'power users'.

If you don't try to work your machine too hard, I think you will do fine. As far as not needing to upgrade for a few years, I believe even the highest end computer right now will be complete crap in two years. Look at the rate at which computer technology is increasing right now.

We're nearing roadblocks and I see two options. 1) We continue to make work-arounds like multiple processors in an economic setting and multiple video cards with multiple processors, or 2) we make breakthroughs and develop new technology. Of course, new techonlogy is probably going to take some time to test, certify, and release. So maybe we'll be okay. Odds are I'm just tired and talking out of my ass again. I don't know anymore. Hell, I barely remember what the OP is about.

The modern MMORPG is simply not worthy, of the acronym RPG. The straight grind and lack of atmosphere leave me with no choice. From this day forth, World of Warcraft, Everquest 2, and all the games like them shall be referred to as PIGCRAP. People In Guilds Constantly Raiding And Power-leveling

If you want prebuilt (customized) computer there are a lot of cheaper alternatives than Dell. At least in the UK. I would advise you to google before going to dell. Guess that is too late for the OP though.

Here is a secret for dealing with Dell.

If you ever need tech support and you did not shell out the extra $$$ for gold support, contact Dell Tech Support via chat.  You will get a tech agent here in the US.  If you call standard tech support, you will get a call center in India where it takes the tech nearly 20 minutes to understand your email address even when spelling the address out letter by letter. Then, afterwards, you will stay on the line for nearly an hour.

You cannot understand a word they are saying because of the heavy accent, and, after you have managed to finally get your problem across, they will "solve" your problem by telling you to reinstall windows and call back.

This is not a stab at India, I am sure they would feel the same way if and when they would need to call the US for tech support and no one spoke their native tounge without heavy accents.  This is a stab at corporations just trying to save a buck and move out of the states.

    I buy off cyberpowerpc.

I buy off newegg for parts for my sister's, brother's and mother's computers if anything goes wrong since I'm the only one in the family who can add/install new parts.

Dell is better than Gateway, Hp, E-machine, Compaq.........., so atleast you bought top of the line crap.

I have always built my own computers but just got a laptop from Dell because of the 35% off coupon. It's really OK as far as pre-built computers go. I also went for a Dell because I can't really build my own laptop. It has a few minor problems, and came with a ton of pre-installed junk on it that took me nearly an hour to remove. Also, it randomly shuts down via the "BSoD" or "Blue Screen of Death", although it only happens after I click the shutdown button manually. I complained to Dell and they gave me 100 bucks off of their site so I got a new headset and wi-fi router for 12 bucks. The skins that they give you are crap though so don't even sign up for one (if you are getting a laptop).

I'm on my third Dell. One desk top and two laptops. I have no complaints other than being able to upgrade components. YES, I paid for the service and it was worth it. I got a new motherboard for one laptop and a new screen for the other.

I might attempt to build my next one but.... might be far above my abilities.

I shoot for the curve... anything above that is gravy.

I paid $650 for an HP 5 years ago, and it still works just as well as it did on Day 1. Doesn't seem like that bad of a deal to me.

i build my own gaming comp, if money is a concern at all then you would too.(or if you just like to do that stuff)

if your bying a discount computer building your own isnt really the way to go though.

for my laptob though i got it from bestbuy (i recommend this) and got the service plan. 5 years ago. i am now on my 3rd laptop without buying a new one, if you know what i mean. the workers there don't care if it can't be fixed or if it go's in 3 times they just give you what you paid toward a new one. free upgrades every 2 years.

Well, yeah, but that's only because P.C.s dominate 90% or so of the market, and are made by many different manufacturers - but that doesn't make them any better. Personally, for gaming, I think that Alienware is the best, with Apple a close second (if you're going to buy, not build,a computer). Also, you can play Windows games on a Mac, using Boot Camp or whatever, and it's like having two computers in one! Use the Windows OS for games and such (when necessary), and the Mac OS for work and the like. Looking cool doesn't hurt the Macs, either :)
