What happened to the new official forums to be rolled out in August?

I remember reading that there was going to be a new in-house engine for the forums. I have not heard anything in a while. Thx

It's not in house, it's actually PhpBB with a customized theme to mimic Lithium.  From what I've heard the implimentation was a disaster on MxO and the other games they have tried it on, so they've held off converting SWG, EQ, and EQ2.

Why would anyone expect their web Devs to be any more competent than the game ones?  They are all part of the same corporate culture of sub-mediocrity that Smed exudes.

Well they are really "great" at "fixing" things.  You really want them messing with the forums?  They would be "down for upgrading" for weeks if they tried.  LOL

Although $OE is great at trying to fix things that aren't broken while ignoring stuff that IS broken....and they haven't a clue how to fix....

They realized new forums need collision detection.

Well theres going to be a "New Forum Experience" They feel that just 1 thread on how great they are will be iconic an cool. And a whole lot less reading. Many different topics and many threads where to hard to maintain.

    Consider these factors.

    1.  Forum change likely to cause extensive downtime

    2.  Many NGE subscribers have stated that they only pay so that they can play the forums, as it is more fun than the NGE.

    3.  A particularly large snafu in the forums might encourage those above to leave.
