GTA: San Andreas

I've recently discovered this game, and must say that its one of the best games I've ever played. I mean, its so sinfully fun, I just can't seem to put it down. Now, for those of you who think I've been living under a rock, I assure that I knew full well about GTA:SA upon its release, I knew all about the controvery surrounding the title, etc. I was one of those people that was looking forward to the PC release with mouth watering anticipation. But my mmorpg lifestyle (lol) kept me from ever giving this thing a shot, very busy months of pvp grinding passed and I forgot all about it. Due to recent circumstances, I decided to take a bit of a break from online gaming in general, and in my search for something to tinker with in the meanwhile, I remembered San Andreas. A week later, I have 50+ hours logged, and I have the feeling that this game will be keeping me occupied for a long, loooong time to come. The only reason I'm not playing right now is because I'm waiting for my torrent to finish, woe is me. What did you all think of this game?

I played Vice City for a couple of weeks, but got bored after a week. I guess mock crime is not my thing.

I shoot for the curve... anything above that is gravy.

I've managed to find a chainsaw, a hockey mask, and a gimp suit in this game. I like to tour the countryside and hamlets of San Andreas in that get up.....followed by a high speed chase across the desert with the FBI. There's something sickeningly satisfying about indiscriminate, sadistic murder. Uh, yah, don't do drugs.

I played that game a couple of months ago and couldn't put it down.  It's an excellent game.  It has that really great mixture of action and story.  It is hard to find that type of game anymore.  Even though the story is linear, it kept me enthralled.  The characters are simply wonderful.

You could also devote as much time as you want to it.  You could make it a short game, or an extremely long game and you would get allot out of it either way.

I wish I could play it again with that new feeling.  It took up a good month of my free time.

I also wish I could find something else that came close to it.  Trying Hitman:Blood Money right now.  Decent playing game, but really lacks any character development or depth.  Sometimes you just want to get absorbed in the story.

      I miss ya CJ!

You are a fag, I do not mean that you are a homosexual because that is against the rules of this forum and I am not a rulebreaker. I mean that you are a cigarette from England, therefore you are a homosexual and vice versa, if you get my drift. In most cases you would be seen being taken out of a package and being placed firmly between a person's lips, only to have your head lit on fire shortly after. The point of this is that you need to get some cashflow, buy a headset and stop screwing around!

It's not bad, but I find it a tad over-rated, just like a lot of high-budget console games (Halo 2 being the worst offender). Is it fun to do all the horrible things you'd never do in life? Sure is. But it's been done before. GTA:VC, and GTA:3, etc. Does it also bring brand new aspects to the game series? Sure does. But it feels a bit... superficial for me.

I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad game... it just never really caught my attention too much.

I'm just wondering why Rockstar hasn't sued Saints Row for copy rights infringement.... The game is seems to be an upgraded version of San Andreas' turf/gang war mini game..

Things are looking up. If all goes my way tomorrow (not counting the chicks before they're hatched, but keep your fingers crossed for me please) I'll have a new headset by the weekend. If not, I'll cry, I guess.

Yeah I love GTA series, all of them...

    GTA:SAN rocks.

Nothing like zooming across the desert on a Dirtbike with Radio X and that nutjob Sage.

Or getting in that Harrier Clone/Apache Clone and strafing the main roads till you get to 6 stars and then dogfighting.

Found a new thrill Minigun + Unlimited Ammo cheat, not long ago.

I play on the ps2, the pad rocks for GTA.

  • How is the control setup on the PC? I thought about getting it for my PC but was worried the controls would be a pain. It's the same reason why I don't usually like FPS on a console.
  • TheodorykTheodoryk Member Posts: 1,453
Controls are great imo, especially since you can configure everything the way you want it (this includes mouse buttons and the mouse itself for stearing if you so wish) and have up to three buttons per function. The only problems I had with maneuverability was stearing the damn helicopters, or rather, stearing, aiming, and firing. Getting through flight school was such a pain in the ass because of this....you have to push the nose of the helicopter down (by tapping a button) while pushing the accelerate button to move forward, use five other directional buttons to manuever the thing, and fire with two other buttons (more tapping), ble. Other than the helicopter though, the stearing of vehicles is very precise and easy going. Aiming and shooting while on foot is cake, as is moving around.

I hate to compare, but compared to SR it's not as good.GTA has always had a nice story and decent gameplay. But it just seemed like the same thing with a different twist and a few new features(ala haircuts and mortorcycles).Saints row on the other hand combines great story and cgs with great shooting and driving mechanics.

I think I might go ahead and buy myself an Xbox360, at least so I can give this game a try. Man, I haven't had a consol since my Playstation 1.....its going to be weird overpaying for games again, lol.

    edit: wtf that picture, hahaha.

OH GOD NO... Please dont buy an Xbox360 just for Saints Row... It's a good game but not worth a 360... and plus the game is pretty much a rippoff of GTA anyways.. So if you play GTA you will have the same experience only with better graphics....

Please wait and buy a PS3 or 360 for when GTA4 comes out
atleast then you can justify the buy..

Shit Meth, its not like I'd be buying the damn thing exclusively for Saints Row, lol. I'm looking forward to GTA4, but the release is a year away, pure suckage. I don't know, honestly I've been thinking of getting a consol anyway, but then the main title which has had my mouth watering is FF XIII, which as far as I know is an exclusive Playstation release. /shrug I've been out of the consol game for so long that I'd really have to relearn everything regarding the currently competeing systems. Not ever buying a Nintendo again, so Wii's out. Its a toss up between PS3 and XB360, really, maybe I'll just do myself a service and get both.

360 has absolutely not enough games worth playing. don't buy it.  Buy a cheap PS2 if you want to play san andreas.  It is a great game.  Story is pretty good too along with the ever cool voice acting. James Woods FTW.

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

I got it for PC already. We were talking about Saints Row, which apparently is an XB360 exclusive. Then again, they said the same thing about Splinter Cell back in the day, lol.

I hear Saints row is a joke, badly done wigger version of GTA.

Really? What caught my interest was the great amount of customisation in terms of vehicle mods etc the game offers. Also, to my understanding, the game features a "living city", the people out on the streets change with the time of day, interact with one another dynamicaly, etc. Little things like this are what make a game enjoyable to me. I'll admit, at first glance the game looks like a GTA ripoff. I don't know, I think I'll dig around for some player reviews etc before making the decision to buy it.

IMO 360 is definately worth 400usd(wich will get you headset, console, hardrive and i think might have a live sub but not sure would have to check) and they're definately enough good games to justify a purchase.

if your into shooters there's perfect dark zero(great online play),call of duty(again great online) plus gears of war coming soon.

There is condemed, dead rising and SR if you like action adventure.

Also PGR is a great racing game.

Back to SR!I don't think buying it outright(or any game for that matter) if you have xbox live gold you can get free demos for DL on it,or you can just rent it.SR isn't without it's problems, graphics aren't the greates ever(though i did enjoy the style) and there are some FR issues in huge gang wars for turf.

I can gurantee you'll like a few of these games i listed, and you can check out xbox game that've been updated to run on 360 too.But even if you only buy one game(like me :P) it's still worth it to play rentals/dvds/cds on it.(assuming you don't have a dvd or cd player already >.<)

PS. watch the gameply marathon highlights and video review at gamespot, should give you a feel of the game and whether it's worth the purchase
