OMG, this is retarded, honestly. Just because some idiot teenagers messed around in some games beta doesnt mean were all bad. I won the contest ive waited forever and looked at my email everyday, not just for the thing but i did sometimes) and you have to be freakin 18 or older to play, teens STOP BEING IDIOTS AND MABYE SOME OF US WHO ARE MORAL CAN PLAY AND CORECTLY RATE A GAME WEVE BEEN WATCHING FOR A YEAR.
          One more thing GOD YOU SUCK   why do you hate me so much life sucks.

    Its not the fact that your are under 18.  The 18 rule is usually because of legal reasons.

    Then again I could be totally wrong and could sound like an idiot right now.

    Ahem....

    I believe it states in the contest rules before you enter that you must be 18 to participate in the beta. You are required to agree to a legal non disclosure contract before you can test the game and if you are a minor there is no way they could enforce should you choose to break the NDA.

    Its not because under 18 are bad testers its because they can't enforce legal action against you if you decide to break the NDA.

    Yes i realize crap happens, but still, if you have under 18s sign an NDA than thats a legal document that they can show to a court proving your signature and you could get like 20 hours+ of community service or whatever. And nobody seems to understand the magnitude of my misfortune, youd understand if you were my friend.

    1.  It has been mentioned that you must be 18 or older for legal reasons.  This is not debatable, it is the way it is and will not change.

    2.  Betas are not to rate a game (maybe thats a good reason to not let people under 18 in, they just think it is an opertunity to play a game for free before it is out).  They are used to test for bugs and every other aspect of the game.

    3.  Your immature attitude and complaining will not help your cause.

    4.  Go outside and play some sports or something.  It seems as if you need to take a little break from computer games.

I dont spend to much time on computer games seeing as I get out of school at 3:30, walk home with my friends then I have from about 4:20 when I get to my house untill 6:00 to use my computer to listen to music check email or anything like that, then from then on I do homework or I can go over to a friends house when they arent busy.



    Based on what you have said about me and my opinion, and how terribly immature I was, hey look at my logical and perfectly reasonable responses to your questions. And if anyones immature here you are, dont judge me if you dont know me, you say I need to get outside and play sports or something, guess what buddy, I already do and there is no point to tell me to do something that I already do.

    An NDA is a contract.  In the US, someone under the age of 18 can't be bound by a even a legal contract.  Someone else who is of age, such as a parent, would have to take the legal responsibility for you.  I guess they don't want to go through all that hassle.  Since they can't bind you to the NDA, they can't risk offering you a beta spot.  It really has nothing to do with how mature you are or how immature others are... it just is what it is.  If they have an open beta that doesn't require an NDA, they'll probably open it up to those over 13, just like with the retail game.  Whatever the reasons, they're not personal, I'm sure.

    It doesn't matter one bit that you signed it. because you're under 18, it means your signature isn't a legally binding contract. Basically, your signature means absolutely nothing, you can do as you please because of it, and Turbine can get royally screwed out of it. They can't even prosecute you if you break it because you're under 18.

    It has NOTHING to do with your maturity level and EVERYTHING to do with the law. The reality is that those under 18 aren't exactly known for their maturity. And just because you might be that one in a thousand that really is mature doesn't mean they can take the chance. If they took the chance on everyone under the age of 18 that wanted into beta, only a few of them may be able to be trusted.

    Them's the breaks. You'll have to learn to live with it. There's a reason why things are the way they are. The world isn't a fair place and things make alot more sense when you get older.

    its the law. they can't let you into the beta because they can not LEGALLY bind you to the NDA because you are not legally of age.

    We can't spell it out any clearer than that.

    NDA's are not legally binding. No gaming company could sue you for breaking NDA. They could ban you, spread the word that you're not a trustworthy beta tester, things like that. But they can't sue you for anything.

    You're not doing a very good job at proving that teenagers have the right attitude to join a beta test.

    I think busdriver probably means... and I'm only guessing... that it's not legally binding in a way that if you violate it by chatting about it the company could have you arrested, and tried in a criminal court.  It could be binding in a civil court, however, if the company decides to sue you for the violation.  If he took the beta and distributed it, however... that could be something the police could involve themselves in... and it probably would be reported.  A civil lawsuit is still a lawsuit and who the heck needs that sort of trouble? 

    Well, maybe he doesn't mean that.  I'm trying to give him a way out.

    okay well... NDA's are legally binding BUT those agreenments that you make with a game developer are not legally binding NDA's. To be that, one would have to be in a business relationship with the game developer, in another words one would have to be paid for beta testing (no, a penny wouldnt do, it would have to be a real wage). As it is, beta testers get paid nothing. Someone thinks now, that the payment is that you get to play the game for free, and I agree, but thats not how the law sees it. So, unless you get money from game developer or beta testing is related to your work (youre a professional game reporter in some gaming mag for example), you have no reason to worry about NDA.

    Starting this thread is one reason why you must be over 18. Morals and ethics play a big part of it and what you just wrote, broke all that, so you wonder why, read your thread and now you know why no one under 18, besides legal reasons, can be in a Beta.

    an NDA would be a legally binding contract.  ITs got offer, acceptance, and consideration, so It should be legally binding.  The problem is for the company to sue there must be provable damages and it seems that it would be tough to prove damages from a breach of an NDA.

    Im not calling you an immature kid, Im just saing if it was between you and me to see who was more imature, you would be the immature one. Im 13 and I dont go around acting like a rock star and cussing every other word. People like me because I barely talk at all and the fact that I am very smart and in an extreme dilema get to know me better then call me immature after youve learned that Im not really immature(which of course would be lying because Im not immature now and I wont ever be.         I think that NDA's not legally binding if you are under 18 is unfair. I think that the law should let NDA's be legally binding to anyone who signs them no matter what age they are. Im not trying to change anything and Im not immature for stating my opinion just like the rest of you do all the time so dont call me that.

    Children can't be held legally responsible... but their parents can.  I suppose a lot of companies just don't want to go through the hassle of having parents sign off for their kids.  Regardless of how mature you might be, it's likely that most 13 year olds are not responsible enough to uphold a legal contract of any sort.  I have to say that the fact that you didn't lie about your age to get in the beta test is a pretty mature thing to do.  Hopefully, you'll be selected for testing if/when they drop the NDA.  Good luck.

    If you seriously think God has it in for you, then you have worse problems than not being able to get into the LOTRO beta.

    Did you win a spot in the beta competition here? If so - email them and talk to them instead of complaining here as I seriously doubt that Turbine reads these forums when they have official forums for the game.

    And the reason I say talk to them - is the Turbine beta sign up says only open to residents of the U.S and Canada however I am from Australia so I am hoping I can still get in with the spot I won in the competition here.
