in Star Wars Galaxies

Lucas remakes origanal tilogy (Han shoots secound ect...) and many core fans get pissed.

Then Lucas releases a dvd box set of the new version, many fans wish they could buy the original version.

Now Lucas just released original version on dvd.

Now consider how that relates to SWG and its "enhancements" with many fans creating an uproar for the original, and we know Lucas is a big fan of money.

Circumstantail at best, I know, but maybe....

    Nothing is going to change mate. If it was it would have changed a year to six months ago when the NGE was being blasted by gamesites and fans alike.

    The hate has died down, subscriptions are up, and all that remains on the hate-end are a few disgruntled pre-cu fanboys with nothing better to do with their time then to bash a game they dont play anymore.



    And im sure some comedic genius will quote and alter that last paragraph and put "fixed" beneath it.

    I dont know the more i think about it the more it seems like a new form of marketing genius.

    Think about it ... make a product that is loved by lots of folks....make a new basterdized version of it that everyone buys because they loved the first so much...Then when the demand for the original peeks you sell it to them again, I mean how many people here are going to buy the new DvD's just so there kids can see Han murder that no good Rodian Bounty Hunter.

    Not only are subs down, but they have announced just this past week the NGE as a mistake and failure.

    The  president himself wishes he never did it and if he had the chance he would not do it again.

    By all means, you are in some la la world and even when the execs of the game tell you that it is the titanic in it's own right you think it is some Dingy boat that floats.

    I tell ya, I am not sure how bad you failed in the pre-nge game but it must have been pretty bad for you to hold onto this version of the game and spread so much crap about it that it's funny.

    Subs are up..lol now that is a good one.

    Thats like saying, after 10 months the NGE is a wide success..  (As the Exec team says)  DO NOT DO WHAT WE DID TO THE GAME!!!! lol..

       I would be happy if this was true, but it isn't. Our guild accepts alot of new players, dozens of them over the last few months. Only 2 of them haven't quit, and those two are only staying because they have hopes it will get better. I've seen alot of old names come back, then leave again after a few weeks at most.

      The NGE isn't KEEPING new players or making the older ones stay. Sure, some people may say they're happy, but that doesn't equal the majority. If it did, the populations would be higher.
     
        For anyone to claim this game is doing ok, it must first reclaim the lost numbers. It's beyond obvious it hasn't and I am still seeing fewer and fewer people. And considering alot of people have flocked from dead servers to Ahazi, we really should be seeing more people.

       SOE isn't trying to hide it as much, they know it's messed up. They admitted it was a mistake (as anyone with half a brain could tell that). They have talked about server merges not too long ago, said they lost half the playerbase and some of their development staff. Things aren't going rosey no matter how much we want to claim it is.
      
       The only reason I am still here is to see what happens. Same thing alot of others have told me, that and they want to finish a mando suit or whatever.

    I have convenced myself that a classic server fits Lucas's new buisness model ...wich I now dub the "Milk it for all its worth" model.

    So, do you still play.  How do you know subs are down?  I see my friends list showing more and more online every week.  I play SWG now, I see old guild members returning.  I feel certain that the numbers are up considerable over where they were right after NGE.  But then I have no proof, just as you have no proof they are down.  When is the last time you signed on ?  I did last night.

    As the for the NGE statement made by smed and the boys, does it say the changes in the last 9 months were a mistake or just the NGE?  Does it say anything bad about the current path the game is taken?  NO, they made a mistake, admitted it and are now bringing back things that we want and adding new ones. 

    Frist thing being the expertise trees for all class, they have basically stop work on all future expansion just to finish this part of the game, which is the  No.1 needed item.  That is showing they are now tring to giving the community the one thing they are asking for most atm.  I at least have a reference for my statement that subs are up, and I dont have an agenda to ruin the game.  Go see the SWG now in the present thread, and answer my question there on page 8 i believe.  Which MMO offers more than SWG now as far as playing options as I explain there?

    So tell me how do you fly your ship in EVE and how do you target?  Do you use a joystick and actually navigate through space? Do you have to aim your weapons or just select the target?  This is the part that made me lose interest in EVE.  Now it was a fun game, and I found the enviroment and community great.  If that sort of sim is for you then that is a good place to be.  But real EVE is not a flight sim , it is a space combat sim.  And that is the way it was designed, so again I say try it and see for yourselve, which is more than most here will do for SWG.

    While I am still hopefull that classic servers could happen, I am not holding my breath.  SOE took the first step and finally admitted the NGE and the alienation of the playerbase was a mistake, but they continue to make mistakes everyday by not opening classic servers.  So they make mistakes but do nothing to fix them.

    I would not expect any news of a new title until the series premier of the SW television show.

    Yes it did, I was one of the ones that it cost them, we all agree NGE was a bad thing.  But I have came back to the game, and I know of others that have as well. They are improving the game now , IMHO, by returning old funtionality that was removed when NGE hit.

    Now there is an idea to get behind.   It is both in keeping with his past actions and with our wants.  I like it.
