Found it tedious eventually. No real reason to get bases ,maybe with recent patches thats changed but no end game as such since no restriction on travel etc .
You have to find a good outfit though, that is crucial to have a good experience. Most people who think it suck in this thread probably played on their own, or joined Random squads or maybe joined an outfit that wasn't that great.
I'd have to agree with greyfox on this, a decent outfit from the start really makes or breaks this game, there are just too many people on at any given time and you can feel quite overwhelmed by it, a good outfit gives you some people to get to know initially because you can just have a chat on the outfit channel while your playing, outside an outfit you are pretty isolated from everyone else because 90% of the time people don't just chat on the local and broadcast channels which is fairly understandable
quite honestly the thing that really got me into it was a pop lock on one of the continents (cyssor I think) the lock was entirely New conglomerate and Terran republic and pretty much all of the TR forces were trying to attack a base, but the NC cut off their AMS's (mobile spawn points) at a bridge with about 25 vanguard heavy tanks, and about 50 infantry they brought in their armour units and this ridiculous fight started over a river, it was a stalemate for about an hour and a half until some wiseguy decided a flight of heavy bombers and reaver gunships would help
absolute chaos, I'm NC and I was hiding under the bridge firing guided missiles at the enemy tanks, very entertaining
Good Game for the first month, but its no where near paying 15 a month, plus 50 at start... Damn...
It was fun though, specially with the large scale battles (I lagged terribly on a 200 vs 200, but it was amazing to see tanks mow down 10s at a time, then a single bomber come in and take it out)
I really can't put enough emphasis on how amazing the large scale battles are
if it were not for the heavy lag at times and the hefty required spec I'd probably say it was the best FPS I'd ever played at times playing it I've been 'there'
I really like being a cloaked hacker with one or two friends to back me up and plow a road with bullets. Me and my bro were running around in enemy territory taking over outposts at noon one time. Didn't meet up with any resistance really (except for that dang sniper and that fighter on our tails). It was hilarious. I was on top of an enemy outpost and a fighter was hovering around trying to shoot me but I kept dodging around obstacles. I forget what happened in the end...

If you've ever found yourself playing an FPS and wishing the battles were larger, get Planetside and get in a good outfit. (If you join NC on Emerald, join Global Army!) Battles this big just never happen in other games, and the fighting is fast and intense. You can pretty much do whatever you like. You can be a medic or engy, fixing people and armor up, or a fighter pilot, or drive an ATV with chainguns attached to the side (yes, it's awesome). The three empires are diverse enough to make battles even more interesting, as the TR pump out their ammo faster then you can say "Damn", the NC put the biggest damn round they can find into your body, and the VS use cool lasers and hovertanks (which we NC players love hacking and getting our hands on. YOUR MAGRIDER IS MINE!)
Of course, if you don't like an FPS that requires a little bit of strategy, you might as well forget about this game. It's not for you. This is more of a Starsiege: Tribes game than an Unreal Tournament 2003
good game for a couple of weeks after that its all the same over and over again.... raid a base, hack the terms, control it move to the next 1. Overall I would play BF:1942 or AA cost no money
ok, this is prolly the GREATEST FPS i have ever played.. BUT.. inorder to injoy it you MUST find a good outfit, prolly one with teamspeak... and get to know them and communicate. that my 2 cents, prolly no one even reading these threads anymore.

I really enjoyed the basic gameplay of Planetside, but some days there wouldn't be any good battles. I played Vanu, and while it's not too surprising that we were zerg'd very often, if we weren't being zerg'd then we would be facing no resistance at all. I've been told that the leaders are corrupt, and between factions they cooperate to pull their forces out of actual battles so that they can just zerg different continents at different times, perhaps so they get more XP.
I came back a little while ago thinking it wouldn't be so bad, now that battle XP is quadrupled and it's not such a huge deal to capture bases for your battle XP, but I suspect Leadership XP still requires the taking of bases, and so the old tactic of avoiding big, non-slanted battles still remains evident. Perhaps this is only with the Vanu Sovereignty on Markov(? may have been the server I was on), but it always seemed like no large scale battles could last more than half an hour before either the other guys ran off or 95% of us did.
This is a very good game, though lag and some of the updates are a bit annoying, it's still a game worth buying. Though... try not to pay for a yearly subscription, I made that mistake with SWG,

planet side seemed like a very cool game. My cousin got into the beta test and he just showed off in front of me with it. He wouldn't let me touch it of course but it looked liek a very good game. what more could you ask for when you have guns, spaceships and an MMORPG all in one

Yeah, it's a real fun game indeed!
If you're gonna play it, my advice is to find a good outfit as soon as possible.
It's ok but it gets boring if you play it too much

Another boring soe game.
Good for a month, so find a free download, they usually give a month free with any new account.
Game sucks imo.......just go play enemy territory if you want an online FPS, I tried the free month, played a few days and got sick of it.
One of the best games I have played I think

Planetside is fun, you can be a noob and still enjoy it, once you figure out a lot of the weapons/certs and stuff, you will have more fun.
It's an awesome mass pvp game.
