norked....well....norked WAS my alt for a while. But, he was also used by some friends and family. I used him until I found out one of my friends was using him to make some nasty comments to certain people of certain faiths. It was kind of interesting though because it allowed me to see a warning on the member side.
So, if any really had seen norked post, you may have been confused by his bipolar moods.
Now, since we mods may discuss things (also because the reputation of norked was cut because of the nasty comments made by said "friend") I no longer need norked. I also tried giving hints on who he was....
Norked = Dekron backwards. My sig used to be "I am but an illusion traveling backwards through life".

Well, I never lock a thread that looks like it will get out of hand. I would not even lock a thread titled "Christianity vs Islam" unless it became full of idiotic posts and deliberate attacks, etc. etc. etc.
I base my warnings/bans on the rules of conduct. We are able to see what a previous mod did (warning/ban) and I base it on that as well. If someone has received 2 or more warnings for flaming, for example, within the past month, I give a temp ban of usually 3-7 days. However, if someone comes in and spams referrerls, etc., I do not think twice about hitting them square upside the head with the perm ban stick.
Personal attacks....
I know what sarcasm is...many of the times such reported "flames" are nothing but sarcastic posts, especially when it looks like this "ur dumb lol".
However, when it is a profanity-laced flame, or a deliberate personal attack of character, I delete and warn (unless multiple warnings are already issued, then I ban)
I usually do not delete if someone just calls someone else "stupid".
Example
"You're stupid". I usually do not delete this. Why? Look up the definition of stupid.
IF you do not wish to do so, here is the definition:
1.
lacking ordinary quickness and keenness of mind; dull.
2.
characterized by or proceeding from mental dullness; foolish; senseless: a stupid question.
3.
tediously dull, esp. due to lack of meaning or sense; inane; pointless: a stupid party.

Now, that is why I do not delete for stupid.
However, if it is "enhanced", such as "You are a stupid SOB" or "You are a stupid MF", etc. that's when I delete.
While on the topic of profanity...
I let it slide a bit if you choose to use a word here and there to "enhance" your post. But, if you drop the f-bomb every other word and just cuss and cuss I will delete it and warn. Remember, you only need to be 13 to sign up for an account. So, this is in a sense, a family oriented site. Many times parents have posted reports complaining about language. Many times people have reported their post was deleted because of language. I try to meet on the middle ground.
I do monitor topics as well and make sure they do not get out of hand. For example, I am currently monitoring "Please...a moment of silence.." and "The Gospel of Mary Magdalene". If they become out of hand, then I will lock them up and delete any offending posts and wan/ban if needed.
I spend most of my active modding time in off-topic and the pub, as well as the SWG forums.
This is just an idea for you guys on a typical mods "actions"

I've reported validly offensive post a bunch of times, and the mods didn't do anything about them. I don't think it's the new mods, I think it's just the mods in general. I mean, I know you're probably busy, but... Well, the report thing's there for a reason, right? It's not just there to make you feel better when someone acts like an asshole... right?
It seems that people will only warn/ban if a posting is personally offensive to them. Maybe that's not the case, maybe I'm just dumb, but... that seems to be how society in general works, and the site's just pulled right along.
I had a point, really I did, but I don't remember it right now. My left eye hurts like hell, I'm supposed to be writing an essay, and I'm exhausted.
Go and read some other forums on this site. Pick a topic you have no interest in whatsoever and read the threads in it, carefully, one at a time. Remember your looking for anything that breaches our RoC, which incidentally you will need to ahve open in another window to refer to, since we dont make it up as we go along.
The reported posts make up a pretty small part of what we do here. I often goto a forum and see threads and posts that I end up taking action on, that have NOT been reported by anyone.
I guess what Im trying to say is, you would need the judgement of Solomon, insomia and eyes in the back of your head to get this job 100% right and whilst I WELCOME critisiscm personally, I can only say.... we do our best....

I think it's important everyone remembers that where we get to have these forums for basically our enjoyment (and for free at that) the mods can't even look at them that way.
They are here to try and make sure it's a civil online discussion that doesn't alienate those that may want to join in or are here for a good read, let's face it, we're not exactly good at doing that for ourselves.
I've had friends that have been warned for reasons I didn't agree with, I've had friends that have been banned and I thought it was totally bogus but for every mistake or slip up that might occur, there's a dozen more calls that no one hear's about and nobody posts about because they were the right decisions to make. Thats always the way with mods on forums, people bitch and complain when they get bummed on something but if everything is cool, no one says a word.
Honestly, I think this forum would have gone down hill a long time ago if waren't for the work of the mods, no it's not always perfect, if anyone here thinks they could do it perfectly shout out now, but compared to other places on the net that have basically been reduced a pre-school documentary on how to be as annoying as possible, I'm damned happy with our little corner of the interweb .

If only. Nope. I personally joined up because I liked the satisfaction of finally being able to do something about spammers and flamers. And I hoped it would help my e-sociology skills.
