    Intresting.

That is why I have just signed up to mmorpg, I saw his message in the RV participant forum and came to take a look. Now I'm here I'll add my 2 cents worth.

This review of his is fairly truthful as far as it goes but is heavily biased by concentrating on the positives and barely mentioning the negatives.

The fact is that most of the game that was promised when I purchased the pre order last year has never been implemented. The first time I logged into beta at the end of last year, there was a pony standing next to me. I didn't realise at the time how priveleged I was. Most people will never have seen a pony, as they have never managed to get animals functioning correctly even 9 months later. Half the skills don't work, the world is still largely a barren wasteland devoid of all life except for grass. There are so many other things wrong, it would take a huge post to list them all.

I have been patient, I know they are a small developer with limited resources but at the end of the day, all I have seen in the past 10 months is lots of empty promises that things will get better "soon", whereas as far as I can see there has been virtually no progress all. I know the devs put in long hours and are trying their best but eventually, I suspect they will have to admit defeat and pull the rug.

Their grand plan has been to prove to the world that it doesn't take a multi million dollar budget and dozens of developer to make a sosphisticated mmorpg. Unfortunately, I fear they have proved that it does.

What were you promised that isnt in?

I am begining to think that the thing RB is going to prove is that the crappy practices of the big companies to talk as little as possible to the fans is the smart way to go. People just cant be trusted to manage their expectations. Not singling you out reaperuk...there are plenty people who apperently expected a different game experence.

As for nothing changing...I can see change in just the short time I have been playing, although I would like to see more. It will, I think, be telling to see where they are at by the end of the month, and the next SOTW post.

So MMO_man is and always was quite correct to pull him up for that and Sempiturnal was wrong to say someone else bumped an old thread. Once again being exposed as a fraud.

Is there no end to the ignorance and prejudice here at mmorpg.com?

Exactly what I posted was, "If you have not voted lately:"  Now, what does that mean? It's merely asking people to vote, there is no request that players, "go and bump the ratings up" - that is a lie.  I explained how I think the voting system works with 9s and 10, but that is it.  I never requested that players falsify or exaggerate their opinions, I only asked them to participate.

Further, I never said that someone else bumped that thread - this is another lie or ignorance on the part of grenkal.

Combat may be very realistic and tactical, but we all know how limited it is and how stiff it looks. You compliment the game for its depth of skills and trades, and even link to the complete skill list itself... yet you fail to mention that half the skills in that list are missing ingame.
Otherwise, you did a fine job of pointing out why all us players love the game and remain dedicated to it. But you should be more honest about its faults and shortcomings, so this will read less like the advertisement on the back of a box and more like a dependable review. The fondness you have for the game is a little too thick in my opinion...

You're right.  I only added in the link to skills after I wrote the review.  Now that I have added it in, it deserves mention that not all of them are implemented yet.  However, many of them are and there is more than plenty to do in the game.  Even as is, nobody is ever likely to master them all. I will however make that specification.

As for the combat, I'm not as concerned with the 3rd party appearances, graphics or videos as I am appreciative that it is realistic, exciting and challenging for the player actually experiencing it.  Hopefully the appearences will improve, but the game is there.  Other than that, I did mention that combat is notably disrupted by the lag, which actually does affect the combat for those participating in it.

So you don't mind if people see your post and pop along and lower their scores?

We all know what you meant don't twist things, you are trying to hype a game that at the moment is beyond help. If you weren't interested in seeing the ratings increase you wouldn't have posted at all let alone in both forums.

If you have a spare moment in your spinning perhaps you should go to this thread

    http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/95440

And impart your valuable insight there.

If you want the game to survive you need to acklowledge its short-comings rather than try and make everyone else out to be an idiot. From the postings on the RV forums i severely dispute the accusation that the game is for a mature audience, most of them are about 16 and act it.

Would just like to point out that who it is for and who actaully play are two totally diffrent things.

Movies say that they are for mature audiences only but parents take in 16 year olds.

And here is the proof it is for mature audiences, striaght from the Redbedlam folder for people who have the game. file is called tacos.Eula:

2.2 Eligibility: Accounts are permitted only for adult individuals who

age at any time to verify that minors are not using the service.

um, you did notice that the community is rated 7.8, even with all the bitter haters...even they admit the community is a cut above. Alot of stuff posted on the RV site is either in Character or posted for political reasons.

You know, I started to answer this by going to the SOTW section of the RV home page, pasting each section in and adding my comments. I soon became aware that it would make the most boring post ever due to the length.  Lets just say that I doubt if 20% of the things mentioned in the  SOTW at: http://www.roma-victor.com/sotw/ are actually in-game now, almost a year after I first read it.

I came from SWG where I was a master crafter and had a successful shop. I didn't expect anything more than a hut in RV, with a few npc's to sell my goods but it soon became apparent that it was impossible to run a succesful in-game business due to the tight price controls imposed by the VERM system.

I also had plans to be a hunter. I was lead to believe that I would be able to hunt wild animals, learn tracking and skinning. I expected to find forests with wild beasts to hunt with my bow. Instead, I found a couple of small woods devoid of all life, not a single wild animal to be seen and ballistics (i.e bows) deferred to some unknown point in the future. I knew before the game launched that archery wasn't going to be ready when the game went live and resigned myself to using a spear instead and yet here we are, nearly half a year later and they still haven't even managed to put forests and animals in.

I'm sorry but it has just been a catalogue of broken promises from start to finish. I purchased the maximum amount of sesterces allowed and still  have half left in my account. If I see a definitive post from KFR saying that the things I wanted and expected have actually been implemented, bug free, I'll come back and give it another try.  I don't have much hope of that happening to be honest.

The only one twisting things is you.  I asked people to vote, period.  I have no control over how a person votes.

As far as your dispute that the game is not for a mature audience, Virtus has crushed your "severe dispute" spin, grenkal, with a direct quote from the end user license agreement stating that it absolutely is.

    Thank you Virtus!

I think its funny that people try to claim other's opinions, especially when his/her individual opinion is the opposite, as works of fiction.  The fact is, is that this player feels RV is a great game.  I'm glad the poster is enjoying a game the most will ever be able to.  I currently play UO, and I guarantee you, most of you probably think that game is crap, but to me, the game is very enjoyable.  Have fun in RV or whatever game you enjoy playing, after all, thats why we play games, to have fun.

Ah, but you see....the haters here are on a crusade to reeducate us on the proper way to enjoy games, and protect us all from those who actually enjoy the game and might lead us astray

...Are you seriously using a TOS as proof of maturity ingame of a mmorpg (Virtus posted but that doesnt matter)?

Why I am I thinking on the word shills...

  • grinreapergrinreaper Member Posts: 507

I am thinking reading is fundamental...reread what Virtus is saying.

Also, I think shills would be a little more subtle than Semp...he just gets pissed off about all the unfounded hate and retaliates in kind. Not the smartest thing to do, but understandable.

    No, JelloB2000  - reading comprehension.

What the Terms of Service proves, is that Roma Victor is designed only for players 18+ years in age, or legally adults in most countries.  How a person acts is a matter of opinion.

Well since I'm here here's a line from the ToS for WoW, the frequent suggested goto when you think someone's immature.

You represent that you are a 'natural person' who is over the age of eighteen (18) years old, or over the age of majority in the country where you are a citizen,

    Only just saw this...

Splitting hairs here but I don't think they actaully promised and i think they might of realized it. I think it was more of a this is what we expect to have in should everything but on schedule. But enough of that what I really wanted to say was that The few animals that are in: Chickens, wolves, cows, and ponies work fine. The problem is that they have not set them to respawn. If they did I have a feeling the lag would start to go up so they might be holding back for now untill everything is fully optimized.

hercules, most people don't waste their life posting 3000+ posts in a game forum; many about a game they don't play and do not even like.

You been here what 4-5 months and you have 270 posts almost exclusively on a single game!

Now whose life is wasting away

  • sempiternalsempiternal Member UncommonPosts: 1,082

    Yeah, "LOL," hercules.

I'm posting about something I'm interested in, you are posting about something you are not interested in.

    *ponders*

    Or are you?

I guess HERCULES finds it easy to make a MOUNTAIN out of mole hill

Calm down if people want to hype they can and if they don't they won't - the current 6.3 is about right for the current state of the game and the potential for the future is much better.

You forgot option 4....Be quiet and leave these people alone. If  you dislike the game or whatever, move on with your life.
