Is it worth starting over?

ShatterShatter Member Posts: 172

I started playing EQ when it was released in 99 and played on the Bertoxxulos as Shatter and Valadin. I have played and Beta tested more MMO's than i can remember and i have never found that thrill and excitement that i did with EQ. I don't know if it was because it was the first MMO to come out and i had never played anything like it before or is it because it just really kicked ass and nothing has ever came close even EQ2. My question is would it be worth me starting an EQ account over again and starting from the bottom because i have a feeling EQ is a high lvl game now and i would be in all the newbie zones all bymyself. Or are people still playing buying the game and starting the game fresh?

BTW i played from 99 to 01 on two accounts at the same time. Now that was alot of fun haveing a lvl 55 druid and being able to PL yourself.

ohh and i lied i played UO before EQ came out.

    Yes.

With the new expansion and the new character race, hordes of people are creating new characters.  Plus you have the two progression servers with a lot of toons running around in low level zones.  Plus the graphics have improved dramatically since 2001.

So go ahead, buy the Titanium pack and start again.

    No.

Don't waste your time and don't give SOE your money.

Try one of the new MMOGs releasing in Q4. Until then play Gametap or some single boxes, maybe see if you can get into a beta test.

Ive been playing since 99, have taken months of here and there but still play and raid with my guild wraith that has been around since 99.

I started playing the progression server cause it brought back alot of memories etc. and actually gave that feeling back again...but I kinda lost interest cause these power gamers are blowing through all the best content the game ever had, makes no sense to me. Im back raiding casually on quellious.

If i were you start another account and play the progression server and the older servers its really hard to find anyone to play with at lower levels since everyone power levels now. The progression really gives you that feeling of the old game, even have the EC tunnel with auctions going on.

I also am looking forward to VG, alot my long time friends from my guild will be playing it.

I recommend the progression servers if you're starting over. Just remember this game could easily swallow 5 years of your life before you realize it.

is there any diff bewteen blizz and SoE there both companys trying to make money do u really think theres a real diffrence?

If you frequent the boards you will notice certain people are extremely biased in their opinion towards EQ. It is pretty obvious to see who these people are, and I will state right out that I am one of them. I have a very positive biased(some are very negativily, like the Jestor(actually he is just blantant anti soe because of SWG)) towards EQ because I find the game more entertaining than any other mmorpg that I have played.

Anyways, today on Prexus(my server) there were over 40 people less than level 10 running around Crescent Reach(TSS noobie zone). TSS is chalk full of quests progressing from level 1-75 which give decent xp and items. I think it is very feasable for a new player to walk into Crescent and start picking up quests and groups to complete said quests while they level... but if I am wrong and those 40 people are all running around soloing(very few were being plvled since I was basically the only high level in zone) it is possible to solo very high level with any class with the new regen system.(hopefully you won't need it since I consider soloing the antithesis of mmo's)

Then again EQ rewards people for grouping(better xp and items) as opposed to some other games that do the exact opposite(well at lower levels atleast). This is probably one of the main reason why I think is the best mmo that I have played.(list isn't very long here)

I played on Bertoxx as well from 99 to 01 and was known as Muody and Deirae. I miss those days. I miss my first sunset after I left the Dark Elf woods and came to the eastport(?). Stood on a hill and watched the sun come up.

    Best online moment ever.

Everquest has been destroyed by what they ahd done to it.  I doubt you would enjoy any part of eq now.  They keep killing it each time they try to do something good

Well, EQ did have a world, and much of that world is empty now, although new expansions or progression servers do provide a shot in the arm (temporarily).

It's a shrinking game, bottom line.  However, EQ has upped its graphics a bit and parts of the world have never looked better.

I think if you play a solo class and can deal with most of your interaction being near the end game, then EQ might be worth another shot.

EQ isn't really much fun solo, it just wasn't meant to be played that way. Non-solo classes like Warrior and Rogue must be horrid now to play.

Well its only good if you play prgression server, otherwise i hope you have at least 2 ACCTS or maybe 3 to start over with

Considering that you regen 4% a tick out of combat now, no matter how many HP you have, soloing as a warrior may not quite suck as bad as the last time I tried that.
