To the OP: It is star wars. If you like that you will enjoy the game. IF you put enough effort in. After you are off the noob station you will find a "legacy" qeust line. Do that one and you will be walked through the game up to lvl 45 or so.(do NOT delete any part of this quest. its a bug that wont let you get back on it unless you are lucky enough to talk to a GM) You must also spend some time getting familiar with how the game transport systems and shopping works. Its a little more unavailable for new players than todays MMO. So just ask alot of questions to the helpers in-game and you will be fine.

Just so you know: this game is not fully polished; it have bugs and some things are just poorly executed in design and programming. You must remember that this is an old game. It is pre-wow, back then you got away with stuff like that.

I used to play back in 2003 untill somewhere in 2004 (dont remember) and loved the game, even with the loads of problems it had back then... (waypoints to nothing, missions broken, lots of specials not working (my poor pistoller), no mounts, no spedders, etc...)
Then mounts came, speeders and Bikes, cities, and more stuff, but I left for real life issues.
Today I went to SWG official site and remembered those good days, so I think I'm going to try it for a month just to see how it is.
I'm from Europe, and played in Eclipse (non-official euro server) and after I went to Chimaera.
Are these 2 servers still ok in terms of population or should I go to other servers?

I'm going to make an update to my own post.

I have made the download of the Vets trial and it was the best thing I could do.

Eclipse is not very populated but Chimaera is "High" in Europe prime time and I've never seen it bellow Medium at least in normal hours of the day in Europe, so the game is far from dead in that aspect

To make things short I'll just say that I will be resubscribing the game when the trial period is over, so I can continue to have fun in the Star wars.

It's marked high when there are more then 3 people logged in

    Just logged off the trial.

Wanted to see whats SWG all about -Not that bad, maybe outdated dunno but I'll play it a bit more :)

However what did amaze me was the amount of ppl playin at the time..New lvl3-10 and even higher levels around Mos Eisley (thats how far I got :P)

So it might not be as bad as people here want to portray it. :)

I just started playing again after years away and I'm completely blown away! Bria is pretty busy and there are fights going on outside the cantina on Mos Eisely on a regular basis. I just signed up for 3 months to see how it goes. I was surprised how much I missed playing this game.

I paid close attention to that ages ago.  During the NGE, the devs tweaked the threshold, I know for a fact that Lowca and Tarq both lost a chunk of players and both were always "light" before the CU but now Tarq can reach "medium" once in a while.

Before the CU, Ahazi and Bria were consistantly in the medium status and occasionally heavy while Bloodfin and sometimes Gorath reached medium, Bria had many many many many many players back then and the anti-CU rally protest showed that.

    My estimates on numbers

    Pre-CU: 500-2000 "light", 2000-5000 "medium", 5000+ "heavy"

    NGE: 100-300 "light", 300-500 "medium", 500+ "heavy"

Here is a slightly old link of a network analyst scan with results that seemed consistant with the server selection screen's population status at peak hour: http://www.shadowsinmotion.com/news-updates/swg-server-population-revealed/

Don't bother, Bioware and LA should be announcing their new MMO soon.

My first server was Lowca.  It was usually "light" during the Pre-CU, sometimes it hit "medium" but rarely.

I played on Bria about 3 months ago, it said "heavy" and it had possibly 1/10th of the players that Lowca did Pre-CU on "light"...

So YES, they adjusted the servers.

But I know what the NGE fanbios will say...  "There are lots of players they are just out questing or in space..."

    LMAO, yeah right.
