PS3 Price Reduced.

PS3 Cheaper

I thought that Sony was already losing a ton of money per unit.  It's wierd that they would lose even more money, from a disaster of a console launch.

With the addition of th rootkit, bad batteries, and all the damage that Soe is doing to the company, I'm surprised that Stock holders have pulled a honest to god COUP DE TAUT.

I too found interesting that it's going to be cheaper in Japan than in America, and cheaper in American than here in Europe... (500$ against 500€, I think an € was 1.26$ yesterday)

Not that I'm worried at all, I've never had a console...

I only feel pity about their workers. Each time a company needs to cut costs that means firing employees.

They found out that there was already going to be a bad launch because of the price. They THOUGHT that blu-ray would bring out the technophiles, and they finally looked at the blu-ray disk sales (zero) and thought "That's not working".

That, and the early reviews I get are "It's the same as Xbox2.. why pay more" and "Wii will kill them both."

First smart thing I've seen Sony do since the walkman.

Now $410 or $515... and still WAY overpriced, considering there's a HD DVD 360 coming for $350 & the Wii is also lowering the price to try to corner the market...

I also think it's a bit funny that a straight Blueray Player is about $800 to $1000, but a PS3 with BR is now $515... do you think the folks the licensed BR to are a bit pissed at them taking such a huge loss on the PS3? Looks like Sony gave up on making money on the units, and they're now trying to move units so they can move Licensed Games and not take a total loss... Rumor is they did this because the 360 is starting to pick up sales in Japan due to good reviews...

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

Being a console player (yeah, yeah, be quiet), I have to say that it is the selection of games that truly makes a console.  The PS2 offered the widest variety of games during the last console war and they ended up with something like 70% of the marketshare - this is a stat I saw probably 2 years ago and I can't remember where, I think ESA.

That being said, I haven't truly paid attention to what games any of the consoles are coming out with right now.  I'm not the type to rush out and pay the extra dollars just to own a console before everyone else does.  I'll wait a year until they drop the price down again for their next holiday sales.

The PS/3 is Sony's Titanic.  It's going to sink the whole mess.

With the Xbox 360 getting out there first and months (well, actually nearly a year) ahead of Sony, I doubt the PS3 is going to exceed the selection of games Xbox will have.  The Xbox had superior capabilities to the PS2, it just came out too late to compete with them with their head start.

We all are familiar with lazy game developers.  SOE embodies that, but I digress, what happened then will happen now.  Most developers developed for the PS2, then ported to Xbox.  That is one reason why, unless you were a Halo fanatic, there was no reason to have a Xbox instead of a PS2.

The opposite will now happen, they will develop on Xbox 360 and port to PS3.  This means any advantage the PS3 may have over Xbox 360 will only be realized by basically Sony developed games (ugh) and games that are exclusive to them.  All the bread and butter games (such as EA, etc) will basically be ports.

Sony is going to be competing with Nintendo for 2nd place in this generation of the console.  And with the Wii being both more innovative and a lot cheaper (and we know Nintendo has solid game franchises) I give the advantage to Nintendo.

To sum it up, the PS3 is:

    1. Late
    2. Too expensive
    3. Uses the wrong technology (Blueray instead of HD-DVD)
    4. Doomed

PS3 being a Sony product willnot be putting in an appearance in my household for obvious reasons.

Anyway, I already have 3 pc's and an XBOX360 to keep me amused so wouldn't have bothered if it wasn't.

Actually bad news at least in america, both versions of the ps3 doooo come with a bluray disc drive but.
only the 600 dollar one can play bluray movies, see the cheaper one is missing a component that enables it to act as a bluray movie player, oh yea and this part can not be added in later. so if you get the cheaper one your screwed, that is what really pissed people off the cheaper model of the ps3 is cheaper because it's missing key components that can never be added in at a later date. The 360 has the option to upgrade.
And just to add in an NGE stab.
Lucas arts is looking for a way to make a lightsaber game for the WII so soon the NGE SWG will be even more empty as all the jedi will want to actually use a lightsaber and hop around like an idiot.....wait that actually sounds fun.   Dangit lucasarts hurry up with that game.

Oh and for teh heck of it I forget all of them but sony has a history of incredibly specific hardware that failed miserably, like their memory cards like the ones for cameras and crap, as well as.....dun dun DUN....

    BETAMAX!!

you'd think sony would learn from doing crap like this, but no now they are trying Blue Ray and UMD lmao

Only in Europe, the US release hasn't been delayed as far as I know, although it wouldn't surprise me...

Due to some issues with manufacturing (a shortage of diodes used in the Blu-Ray drive) they will only have 100 000 units ready for the release in Japan.

And I might add that the PS2 sold 900 000 units in Japan on its first weekend.

Well, the PS3 does have one thing going for it.

Check out the links there for the White Knight Story trailer.

While I do not think that it is worth buying the console just for that one game, I would (and will likely) rent it just to play that.

OK a few things:  for more that I hate SOE , the ps3 will sell Tons,  MGS4, FFXIII, killzone Will do it,  +  selling less then large size condons in Japan, the 360 is a failure allready..

PS:  Ohh!  and it doens't really sell more then the ps2 is selling now in USA....

Lower PS3 launch price=Sony goes down to bankruptcy even faster.
