Farlan Entertainment Releases A Free Offline Engine Demo : The Ganareth Tour

dolphin666dolphin666 Member UncommonPosts: 55

Considering all the bad feedback from many players, is it worth the download? (1.3gig)

Quote from the email I received:
Farlan Entertainment offers the availability of a
free, interactive discovery of its engine

The Ganareth Tour* will give newcomers to the world of
Ganareth a taste of many of the world’s most addictive elements. It can be
downloaded at no cost from
www.darkandlight.com/download.

          Farlan’s
interactive engine trial Ganareth Tour, is a small, standalone application that
accurately portrays many of the experiences players can encounter as Ganareth
engine discoverers. Users can roam various Ganareth landscapes including a
desert, jungle, mountainous region and rolling countryside; try out Ganareth
world sports such as snowboarding, gliding and free diving; sample means of
transportation; and discover creatures and characters from these wild grounds.

“Very few MMORPGs take the initiative to create an interactive
demonstration of their engine. Because Dark and Light engine is so unique and
appealing, we felt strongly that we needed to give newcomers a taste of what
they can experience while entering the world of Ganareth” said Farlan
Entertainment. “This free offline application is true to the look, the spirit,
and the appeal of the engine and as such, is a great opportunity for anyone
interested in becoming a part of our adventure.”

"This free offline application is true to the look, the spirit, and the appeal of the engine"

minus the bugs, crashes, inept patches, patches to fix patches that make more things break, server downtime, con artist devs, bogus offers, broken promises, no content, few quests, broken quests, incomplete crafting, broken transportation, broken armor, broken spells, no comprehension of "balancing" classes, incompetent coding, juvenile-like GMs, wholly messed up account/billing system, blame the players for the abysmal state of the game,(heck! blame anything you can think of! they certainly have!), ignore/bash/flame their own players....ahhhh the adventure continues goes......

all that will be fixed as soon as we learn wtf we are doing (has already been 7 years, give us more time, its your fault we released it in such a poor poor shape anywho) in the meantime you can pay for an expensive game and pay us monthly while we ignore/bash/flame, throw inept GMs at you, break the servers, break the quests, break the crafting, break the armor and weapons, break the AI on the mobs, blame you for it and continue to take your money and ignore/bash/flame you.

You forgot to mention the weapon/armor exploits that have further unbalanced the gameplay. To the point where there are very few people who play dark characters anymore. Perhaps they should change the name of the game to" light and lighter." But I believe you touched on all the other major flaws. You're starting to make it hard for me to argue with you Cholayna!

Played Wow, D and L, AOC, GW, Eve, Rift and many more insignificant games.

This is for what? To show us how good the engine is? bet there's no credit to _Pix_ listed anywhere. Anyway, we already know the engine is good. Now if they really want to impress us, give it to someone who knows how to use it and will actually make a playable game with it.

Well the terrain engine that is Pix´s work does what its suppose to do (show lots of terrain). Game engine with combat & stability not so much if you go by forum posts.

You also forgot to mention the bugged forts/holding where you no longer have a holding or fort but can not join or build a new one cause according to the game you already have one. The disappearing pet that you lose when you teleport to your birthplace.

Sure there more but those two are on the top of my bug list.

Yah, that is another major one as well! Funny, but we hit just about all the major flaws. Wonder how long the list of minor ones would be??? In the hundreds???

Well, since you are asking people's opinons here, I would really NOT recommend it.

Remember, Farlan did have a virus on their client download, so who is to say that the integrity of  THIS particular application is not safe?

Farlan tries to call it initiative, in releasing an "interactive demo" and say most companies do not do that. That's quite odd, considering most companies I know of have a FREE TRIAL. Is a free trial not an interactive demo, or is it not even better? When DnL was released, they did not even have the decency to give you the first month of gameplay free...you had to pay for the client and the first month in advance. Not to mention is was all download, and there had been no gameplay manual for over a month...which too, was later a .pdf download. You were paying boxed game pricing for a download. Just think, even if you liked the game and later had to reinstall, you would have to download the entire client all over again. All this is apart from the horrendous frame-rates you experience while playing.

This "interactive demo" is too little, too late, but that's what Farlan is known for.

My opinion? Don't even bother with anything remotely connected to DnL.

I got one of these to. I deleted it. I mean their website had viruses, what is going to be in a small exe file I download from them?

Well it took them awhile but they finally figured out the best way to improve the game, they removed themselves from it.

Now you're just bashing for the sake of seeing your forum name in a thread. Dark and Light was a highly ambitious venture with a vast game world that dwarfs any other mmorpg in size. You can snowboard, hang glide or parasail to spawn locations, and you're comparing it to tic tac toe?

Sure they have messed up, but they messed up a hugely ambitious attempt at a game that would shatter this ice age of mediocrity we have in MMORPG's if only they had more resources and arguably a few different employees.

I only say this because I had such supremely high hopes for this game, but alas I won't play it again unless they can fix everything, and I mean EVERYTHING.

You mean you would still play this game after they took a big dump on their customers!?!? I'm sorry but I wouldn't touch anything by Farlan/NPcube again if it was plated with gold and indestructable!

Also, they had plenty of resources. Stolen technology from Pix. He said he joined the project because there was alot of money backing it. "money! A stable platform to start from in Vworld!" With that going for them it took them 5 plus years to make this piece of crap. Yes, you can say it had potential. Big fricken deal! Unless you deliver that means SQUAT!!! So please! Quit throwing the "potential" and "ambitious" argument in the mix! It holds no water. Afterall, everyone and everthing has "potential."

And if you're going to defend the dev's by attacking the tic tac toe remark, then you're really grasping at straws. Everytime they throw a patch on the game it gets worse...

Yes i am bashing them. Yes they deserved to be bashed to hell and back.

    1) Ambitious venture - True but i bet most people could write down an mmorpg on paper with the biggest new ventures never seen before in mmorpg world. Making promises is one thing, but keeping up with your promises is a whole new story.

    2) They never managed in 5 years time to get the basic game running. I started on day 1 of anarchy online which had huge problems but compared to DnL Funcom had a good start

    3) They were backup with money bigtime. You should say they could hire good devs to get a basic game running but they never managed to do that. Check their latest patch and see how wonderful these devs are.

    4) The whole mess with Pix. A good running company wouldnt act like little children, yet they are doing it out in the open.

    5) Blaming the community that the current state of the game is the communities fault and not theirs. The moment i read that i knew i would never touch a game again which has their name on it.

Want me to continue? I claim to say that with all the proof so far with DnL they would have all the trouble in the world to make anything basic. They would have trouble to make a bug free tic tac toe. Yes it is ironicly ment but i have the feeling that their tic tac toe means whole new rules to the game so they can cover up their programming skills.

dark and light was nothin more than a big scam.. end of story.  why else would they do the SoG thing and charge thousands of people $60 for an Alpha..

$60 is what I pay for Blizzard games.

DnL is worth like $5 literally.

Well, one positive point of the off-line demo is that you will find exactly the same amount of people compared to the full retail version: 0.

P.S: give it up Farlan....in 2/3 years you could have just a "playable" game but the technology will be way too obsolote.

After playing the demo i must say its horrible

I actually lag in cities on the lowest settings...which btw are the only ones i can use because any other causes the game to bug out my graphics.

The world is bland and you can tell they spent all their time making the northern areas and just bsed the southern.
