Wasted energy. They could of just made the ultimate FFA PVP Mmorpg

Don't you love it when a company tries to clone WOW & EQ then fail? hahhah. The least these dumb asses could of done is try to make an ultimate FFA PVP server like classic ultima online and capture a solid user base. Instead they tried to compete with the King of carebear games (Wow) and they got their ass handed to them.

They should of spent this energy making an awesome PVP based mmorpg with item looting upon death.

I love PvP - its one of the main factors for MMORPGs for me - however there is no place to compare DDO to WoW - they are 2 diffrent games that "Aiming" to a diffrent kind of community (even though both are MMO) - and tbh - WoW is a clone itself - it doesnt have any new ideas (almost) - and blizz only tried to improve the ideas from other games. I would love to see PvP in DDO - it will actully make the game worth playing (and to my understanding turbina are working on a PvP patch atm).

Wow your pretty clueless aren't you.  I'm guessing wow was your first mmo, and that you've never even played EQ.

Not really true. DDO is constant instanced questing - barely any of Wow & EQ are even instanced, never mind organised questing. You cant really compare raid centralised grindfests with this sort of game.

You obviously posted this in the wrong forum. If you've ever played DDO you'd realize it shares very little with WoW. So I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and just say you're in the wrong forum.

    so...

I don't know what company you're talking about, but it's certainly not Turbine. WoW and EQ2 are similar, but DDO, for both better and worse, isn't.

If the game is a commercial failure, at least it was something different. Kind of funny how in a different thread people are gushing over an upcoming game because it has manual blocking... maybe next we'll see threads gushing over games that have built-in voice chat and an LFM screen.

    LOL!

this game is based off of the ultimate RPG game of all time: Dungeons and Dragons, not some WOW or Eg or w/e these games that are based off of Dungeons and Dragons in the first place!

ill admit that DDO isn't as great as PnP D&D, but insulting the D&D name by replacing what DDO is based on w/ WOW or EQ is absolutly rediculous

sorry guys i see that this is an ancient thread, but i saw it and flipped out...

Actually, you can compare games of the same genre. I'm getting sick of people telling other people what they can and cannot do without a valid reason. The only time you can't compare games is if they are of two different genres such as comparing Halo 3 with Prince of Persia. One is first-person-shooter genre and the other is adventure-genre. Both WoW and DDO are of the RPG genre and MMORPG genre. I recently bought WoW am loving it, though the art could use a boost.

With that said, both WoWs and DDO PvP are imbalanced. WoW is mainly imbalanced due to the fact that 2 out of the 8 classes can't use magic or heal themselves, putting them at disadvantage. Plus, there is the fact that players can twink their characters by getting new and better gear that enchance their status. However, this doesn't stop a character from having their status reduced or other players from bringing their own gear. (Which restore balance)

DDO is imbalanced because class perfomrance in PvP is ladder-based rather rock, paper, scissors-based like WoW. By ladder I mean the classes are ranked based on their resourcefulness and glaring weakness. The two best classes, Sorcerer and Wizard, can reduce damage, buff and deal damage making them extremely powerful over other classes. Their only weakness is a low AC, but because every character has low saves in one area or another, they can use their magic to exploit it.

The third best class, the Cleric, has the same feature, but they can also heal themselves. However, they are poor fighters. Like the Wizard and Sorcerer, they have plenty of magic to exploit other people weaknesses or they can use magics to buff themselves to rival a fighter. Tthe fourth best class, the Paladin, has high saves, but are somewhat poor fighters because they are only good against evil characters, which don't exist in PvP.

To give you an example of a class on the low end of the ladder; there is the Fighter who has great DPS and is very good tactician, but has a very low will save and reflex save meaning one holding spell can spell trouble. Then there is the fact that high level characters can co-exist with low level characters without restriction. Like WoW, it's also gear based with the except gear changes little of how the ladder-based system works if you are playing a class/race is who hurting on AB (Tower Shield Paladin), low AC (Barbarian), not having many feats that support their class (Ranger and Paladin), or their DC saves are too low. (Bard and Paladin)
