Im an ex player of the game (money issues), but Icant stress on the one word "SOCIALISE" you can't get anywhere in FFXI unless you socialise with the other players, I started the game as an elvaan in Sandoria(on the server Bahamut). I didn't even know how to talk, but as soon as I was able to freely move around I was asked buy someone "would you like some arrows" and I just stood there. trying to talk and he said "type /s to talk" so i did, and we got chatting. in the end He got me some levels and invited me into his linkshell (was caleld SilentDragons at the time, yes, this was years ago too) His linkshell introduced me to many people, and also many good tales to talk about, and the socialising made this game the best i'd played. one again though, I cant stress you too socialise, and just treat the game with a bit of fun, lay back, relax and just run around and chat.
Waiting for parties, questing, lvling is so much more fun, and travels so much faster if you have a big group of friends tot alk to while you do so.
Well after reading all the posts, I decided to give FFXI again. While I don't mean to upset FFXI fans, I found it a meaningless grind fest. This is the only way to level up and add skills to your character and thus make them desireable for parties. But there is no difference between 1 WAR's abilities or specs vs. another. All Cure spells work the same, etc. All character models are virtually identical and combat is a painfully slow version of "I hit you...wait...you hit me...wait...etc."
I am sorry ladies and gents, and please don't flame me for voicing my opinion, but this game just doesn't work for me.
Thats ok, everyone is entitled to their opinion....but what people on here are trying to prove is that grinding isnt everything in the game....as Telaki and others mentioned, your gonna get BORED by just grinding all day everday. theres more to the game then levels and stuff.
