why play EQ2?

mmorpgs are about meeting with other people, having fun, interaction with others, this is why we play. EQs playerbase is even lower then EQ1 i couldnt find PEOPLE at all to group with from 1-20 then onup i just barely found some people. Isnt that what DEAD mmorpgs are called?

eq2 players tend to stick with their guild group.Best bet is find a guild.

Not sure what current EQ2 player base is but can tell you its pretty filled up at the 70s mark.

Try finding a guild it helps a lot.

I think it's a very indirect way of saying that he wasn't satisfied. I'm not sure if he is trying to provide a public service or just looking for validation?

The modern MMORPG is simply not worthy, of the acronym RPG. The straight grind and lack of atmosphere leave me with no choice. From this day forth, World of Warcraft, Everquest 2, and all the games like them shall be referred to as PIGCRAP. People In Guilds Constantly Raiding And Power-leveling

I highly doubt it's a genuine question... Coolguy has done nothing but hype WoW for the last week and now he's knocking on EQ2 ??? Quel surprise.

Truth be told, EQ2 is a wonderful game at this point. If anything it's a little drawn out but the upcomming expansion should help with that. There's thousands of questions, achievements and tons of content. Population really is not a problem from what anyone can see. Most servers have healthy amounts of players and guilds of all levels so anyone can get into the game.

Graphics are as solid as ever and the combat isn't as boring as on release, although in all honesty, it's still not a terribly exciting venture. Very solid game for any gamer who enjoys this game style.

Complete and total drivel.  I started a new character and within a week me and 5 others formed a guild, I have to turn down groups when I want to go be on my own or craft.  This game doesn't have population problems as far as I can tell.

What i found with EQ2 is people don't group outside their guild

Utter garbage, just like all youre other post. If you couldnt find "PEOPLE" at levels 1-20 then there are a few possibilities...

    1. You were playing on a private server
    2. You act in game's just like you do on these forums, which would naturally cause people to blow you off
    3. Youve never even played EQ2

Im putting on money on 2 and 3 being 100% correct.

Im fairly new to MMORPG's. But, I now find this is my favorite type of Game/s.

I just cancled my acct with WoW after 2 yrs playing. I still cant believe I played that long considering how much I hated the cartoonish graphics. The colors were very vivid but, the oversized weapons and clownish gear just killed the experience for me.

Initally i loved WOW because of how fluid the toons movement were. My fav were the Undead. Animation-wise I love the way my UD's moved. I was wondering if there are games with much less "kiddy-graphics" and have Wow's awsome character animations. I tried guildwars but, the characters looked cool only when they stood still. The battle animations were just too rigid for me. but, the graphics and gear etc looked really good.

I tried EQ2 when it first came out but, it was still buggy and have not had a chance to give it another try.

Any recommendations?  (i'm looking for a game I can really emerse myself into)

All you elite/hardcore members are EQ2 fans?!  Oh great, Now I have to question every bit of advice and hype I've read in these forums.  It must be hard to make a game difficult and boring at the same time but EQ2 does it.  Please tell me they at least added a PvP element to spice up the game and i'll cut you all some slack.

You dont even know what kind of content the game has, yet you pass judgement on the people who play it with youre little comment? I dont need youre "slack", but I will tell you that yes, EQ2 does have PvP, and its preety much FFA.

Sorry i gave a valid answer and then checked coolguy20 other posts and realised he is just trying to falsely put down EQ2.

Truth of the matter is WoW and EQ2 are indeed both great games.WoW i only quit because of the end game content and i only quit after 1 year of playing it!

EQ2 has an overall lower sub then WoW.But i can frankly say it has a higher population per server as it has a larger server capacity.

I however have seen and heard of new players struggling to get a group and this sadly is due to fact that EQ2 players tend to prefer to stick to ppl they know or thru guild members.

Even as such pick up groups are easy to find espically post level 50.The guild function in EQ2 is one of the most advanced ans honestly its so easy to find a guild.Just hit the guild tab and see the members of that guild, officers online, guild requirement and plans etc.

The few people i know who complained ingame about lack of finding a guild/group were amazed as they never thought of checking the guild tab button!I personally have a relaxation dirge that i play once in a blue moon and he is about level 29 so i meet many new players all the time and have helped them out with my mains.

Sorry but the game is quite filled up with people no question about that. And by time you are guilded or get a friend's list you  be tired of been asked for dungeon runs lol.

You can fault the game for having zones, high specs but doubt you can fault it for its population or community.

I wonder how much you actually know of EQ2 tbh since you did not even know there been pvp servers for over 6 months now.

And EQ2 gets its hype because its actually a great game and come a long way in under 2 years. If you read around you find a good amount of the ppl on this forum are SoE haters yet even they agree SoE did a good job with EQ2.

For a SoE product to enjoy top 5 rating for such a long time on this site is actually speaking well of the game.

Well after asking about MMORPGS I see that people seem to focus on bashing one another. Any suggestions for any MMORPG with good character graphics and animations.

IE: I like the guildwars graphics but i hate the animations. in WoW I love the animations of the characters but hate the goofy graphics (oversized weaps etc).

Looking for help in what is becoming a Pub Brawl...

I did buy the friggin game when it came out and here is my problems with it listed in order from biggest to smallest.  I played it for about 1 and 1/2 months before pulling the plug.

1.) No PvP - now you all say you've had it for 6 months.  Well that would have been 1 1/2 years of waiting around for a possibility of PvP.  Keep in mind at the games inception the devs were  saying over and over, "we have no plans to add PvP to this game."  But Im glad for you guys who play it that you have PvP now.

2.) Instanced Zones:  I hated waiting for the game to load everytime I entered a building or a new zone.  The game would have been playable to me now (since it has PvP) without the constant zone loading.

3.) group death penalty - I know all the reaons you all give for thinking it is the better way to group, (shared responsibility for not doing your part blah, blah, blah) but  I hated it.  And it DOES discourage people to group with those they dont know.  Hence the OP's problem with the game.

    Little nitpicks

4.) Not enough solo content for my taste.

5.) Graphics were very realistic and detailed but kind of dull with drab coloring (IMO).  There was nothing that took my breath away.

6.) Mob Aggro sucked.  If you aggro'd something it chased you until you left the zone.

    Just so you all know Im not a negative nelly, here  is what I liked;

The thing I really liked about the game was the interactive crafting.  THat was a nice change to the mmorpg norm.

character creation was very detailed as well.  And the soundtrack was nice.

While I have read some of his post.  His complaint isn't totally without merit.  I currently play EQ2 (Yes, some of my toons are guilded), and finding a group is very much a pain 80% of the time.   Even with my Fury chances of me finding a group (One that doesn't break up 10 mins later) is about 50/50 at best.

I'll make this easy, when EQ2 first came out it wasn't good, now it is.
  • kidRiotkidRiot Member Posts: 209

When it came out, it was a lot harder to level and such.  Soloing was hard and when you died or a group mate died, you took/shared exp debt, which was horrible.  Now they dont have that.

I may just have to start EQ 2 again = P  Loved it when it came out, but i went back to SWG.  But ever since they added PvP, ive been thinking about trying it.

They did, but it's the most unballanced piece of crap i've ever seen. And that's taking it lightly...

I don't recommend EQ2. It sucked when it was first released and it still sucks.

It's an SOE game, and that in itself should warn you not to invest your time. SOE has a history of making sweeping fundamental design changes to their games without regard to their playerbase. They have done it in both EQ1 and EQ2 and most noteably in SWG. It's no fun investing time to develop a character only to have fundamental aspects of the game changed after release which decrease your enjoyment and playability.

EQ2 itself was supposed to be a superior game to EQ1 based on the years of experience and customer feedback SOE had to draw on from EQ1, but they screwed the pooch and ignored what the players wanted and released another raid oriented game. The fact that there are less subscribers for EQ2 than EQ1 proves they didn't listen to the players or learn anything from their EQ1 experience.

EQ2 is nowhere near as raid-oriented as EQ1. What conspiracy theory website did you cull that one from?
