    11+ is good.

    However, 40 is better than 11, yet, 11+ is a decent start where I will not feel it is small, while at 10-, I feel it very small...

    Skill systems are better, with skills being raised as you practice them. See Roma Victor for an example. UO is another one.

    I like skill systems, but I am on the fence about use based advancement.  It is often just problematic.  In the end they seem to encourage botting and grind behavior.  Sometimes the things people do to maximize advancement, while technically correct, aer just silly in the context of the game.

    In one MUD I played I use to train dodge by goign to the newbie sewers gettting 20 rats to attack me and then turn my effort low so I didn't run out of endurance and then wear good armor to take the hits and just sit for an hour and maintain health and watch the armor wear.

    I would rather have none at all aswell, but if forced to make a choice, I would say 21-25. You would have 4 basic class choices like Fighter, Mage, Healer, Stealther and then it would branch of from there into every specialist class imaginable with finally an Elite class to advance to for each branched class. For example: Fighter-Paladin-Templar.

    No classes, professions, and i want 40+ Professions, much like SWGs original system, til they killed off 21 Professions.

    The problem with games built around grouping is that regardless of whether it is class based or skill based, and whether there are 5 classes or 50 classes, the ROLES within a group don't really change. In the current combat paradigm, you need someone who can hold agro and avoid/take damage, someone to perform crowd control, someone to DPS, and someone to heal. Those are sort of the essentials, right? So if you have 40 classes, but one is best at tanking, one is best at healing, one is best at CC and one is best at DPS, you will see those be the most popular classes among people who group, with most of the rest of the players soloing a lot because (a) they prefer it, and/or (b) they can't get groups.

    This applies to skill-based games too. You might not have classes, but don't you still have those roles to fill? You need someone who is "good at healing", someone who is "good at tanking", etc. It might be more fun to make the character you want in a skill based system, but as it pertains to the OP's opinion, it doesn't really matter, I think.

    I agree, however how about a game which would have totaly different combat concept. You have those roles only because it is class based. What if you cant heal, tank or DPS in action and must fight using your brain (and skills of your character in a way) then class or skill system wont be all that matter much, but players skill. That have influence on few important game aspects at the same time which are:

    - Community (you will keep in a friends list and be happy to play with those who you can rely on);
    - Combat interaction (that will obviously bring more content and style to the combat gameplay);
    - Achievement (instead of rewarding players for amount of time played that will allow to reward for the QUALITY of play which what devs are trying to accomplish all that time);
    - and finaly and most importantly
    Customised GAMEPLAY (no templates or builds as nearly everyone plays differently and therefore every fight may teach combatans something new as they will have to "study" their opponents)

    Cheers!
