Is a game like this really possible? Think about it!

Ok first of all i want to point out that i amm all for Darkfall, i've been waiting for a game like this all my life since i playe dmy first MMO. But i was recently talking to a guildmate of mine and he got me thinking. What he said was the Following:

In a game like Darkfall where there are no zafe zones, is it really possible to ever move up in the Ranking ladder or better yet ever improve. He later then explained what he meant. He said that for example in WoW when the new server came up there was this guy that together with 3 college room mates leveled up from 1-60 in a week, then they took turns to go to Ironforge(the only city that was actually being used by the player base at the moment) and continually killed the Npc's Banker merchants etc. in a way that it was impossible to buy or bank items if you where an Alliance member. Basically these 4 guys shut down the whole economy of the server to the point that the Horde/Alliance Ratio was 12/1. Everyone on the server became Horde since these 4 guys decided to kill the whole server just because they were bored. there was no one in this server able to kill these guys since they were so superb.

Basically what im saying is in a game like darkfall, is there anyway possible to prevent this. A game in which there are no safe zones and where anyone can kill anyone.

I hope this is not the case, i seriouslly do but i believe it was my duty as a fellow gamer to share my friends opinion with you.

this idea would never work for two reasons:

one everyone has the same amount of HP and items dont really make a difference

and its a skill system not a level system so theirs no computer bonus to defense and damage.

I understand and thats what i believe but still there is now an incredible uncertainty in me. none the less i still believe this game is gonna roxxors!

Regardless of wether or not its level based ur always gonna have a group of 20 people on ventrilo kicking the ass of every person fighting back + plus the healers in the back healing the little amount of damage that the people in the front are taking. All im saying is organization will alwyas win over disorder.

its TOTALLY possible, i played SB for years wich was total PVP only 3 safezones and all really low lvl otherwise 10+ your on your own, ofcouse there will be griefers, just go where non popular locations are and youll be fine, next GET INTO A GUILD ASAP this is the only way to survive, there will be people who level faster then you and can offer protection from these griefers, JOIN GUILDS ASAP!!!! this is the key to survival in open pvp, if your coming from WoW you most likely will hate it and think its just full of griefers, this is true, but its worth it in the end due to its a greater playermade enviroment with alliances/wars/etc, its ALOT more fun due to youll never know whats going to happen tommorw. If your lucky one of the powergamers will be a noob protector but not very often, these players think they are a superior person, not the case, they usually quit when people get same lvl as them due to they get ganked, and lemmie tell you nothing more satifying then mob hunting one of these pkers and running them down like the dogs they are! I HATE games that have "safezones" feels so carebear, as long as they dont make you loose EVERYTHING you have when you die i wont be to sad, (sofar looks like you wont loose everthing upon death) but powergamers/gankers are in every game, just dont get discouraged and remember youll be their lvl one day and to show no mercy when that day comes

Good, organization should always win over disorder, the best win. However this will be a real PVP game, all of the guilds in it are hardcore PVP guilds who know their stuff (not like the noobs of WOW) and will win eventually. Add the pure size of the map (many many times more than WOW and no fast travel).

Your friend should think on that, this fear has no base and will never happen.

Honestly that occurance in WoW was a significant design flaw which was later corrected (within a week or two of the first posted video of someone killing the bankers).  I don't recall the effect of the guy killing the bankers to be what you describe, but I only saw the video of the first guy to post himself doing it.  It sure wasn't a week after release, it was months.  And if they had really done that a week after release, Blizzard would have fixed it much sooner.  Personally I think that example is an overblown version of what happenned, but the possibility is that it very well could have happenned.

Can something like this happen, sure, it's possible.  However, I don't think it's possible to be as bad as a level based system would allow it to be.  Sure, some organized clan decides to raid a main town, killing everyone in sight repeatedly.  Odds are, everyone taking the abuse would eventually band up against them and drive them out.  That is a typical result of this kind of occurance.  The cool thing is, that something like this is possible.  I want to log in one day to find my home town under siege and to drive off the attackers.  To me, that rocks.  The mind set however is that 'that will disrupt my ability to level', and that mindset just doesn't apply.

  • I'd assume they have guards insta kill you if you try to kill an npc important for game advancement, or make them invulnerable. If they are copying the great ideas of UO, they could atleast add in the changes that stopped the exploiters. *Shakes fist at those who ruined the economy of black sandles!*
