I couldn't decide between a bengal and a siamese. The price differential was a bitch, but the bengals just look so bad ass. Dropped $400 on this baby, screw getting a new computer.

As long as you don't call it tiger like every other commen cat name, I'll be cool with it.   It's pretty, but it better be an active cat and not a lazy bones. You can get a rottwiler for that much.

Screw activity. I'm a sucker for lapcats. I'm never letting this thing see the outside world or he'll turn into one of those cats that only comes home at night for food.
And Rottweilers are big and scary. I like small dogs, like my deaf and blind chinese pug.

Why do people buy pet cats and dogs when there are so many in shelters that need a good home?

Every pet I've ever had has been adopted, and they've all been great animals, not to mention you save them from ending up being put down because no one wants them.

 Personally I like cats and dogs equally. I had a pygmy feral cat and Ive had a number of australian sheppards. Generally speaking the cat was easier to take care of due to the fact that they took care of themselves. That and the fact when I wanted them around they were there. When I didnt they were gone. My cat almost had esp when it came to me wanting her near. Lol and she made a awesome bed warmer. Shed snuggle under the covers by my feet and purr me to sleep. Sigh I miss my kitty. Rosey was the best R.I.P

With a kitten you get to shape the cats personality. Most the pets you adopt already have a personality of their own. I'm with you, I prefer to find a pet that I know I'll get along with, but some people like to have more influence on who their pet is.

I could never spend $400 on a pet. I understand why one might do it, but I'm more into the unique personalities I see in your average mutt or alley cat.

lol. Dogs are extremely domesticated. I love dogs (I like dogs more than cats myself), but cats still have some wildness in them. My favorite animal in the world is the Tiger, so that makes cats cool in my book.

I love animals with exception to the kind with wings and slimies and scalies. Okay, I like mammals lol.

I agree that there are many good pets in shelters, I too have adopted a few (there are also some crazy ones). Buying pets from a reputable breeder is not a bad thing.  It gives the individual a chance to buy the type of dog or cat that they want. I checked the shelters and rescue homes for months looking for a Boxer pup and ended up buying one.  The thing to avoid is the pet stores. Many of them get their animals from pet farms.

I told him we're moving to Alaska or Antarctica and we're going to be champions of the snow.

Exactly. The way I see it...a dog/cat is a 15 year investment. You go get one from the pound, you have no idea what the behavioral patterns of the pet will be. If I get it home and it's unintelligent and tears up my furniture, I'm stuck with it for 15 years.
If you buy a pure breed, the variability in behavior is dramatically decreased, therefore it's a better investment, even if it costs money.
Plus the shelteres in my area are execution-free, so that isn't even an issue.

That is one awsome looking cat, I got one pure gray panther looking cat and a fat fluffy persian now I want a tiger cat like that lol.
