I have the game for you...www.xenimus.com...don't judge the screenshots. The graphics may be a bit outdated, but the other aspects of the game make up for it. It's open PvP everywhere, anytime, you always have to watch your back, and you do lose your stuff/experience when you die, so a lot rides on it. Definetly not a care-bear game and unlike an experience i've had in any other game. It's a pretty close-knit community. I've been playing it for close to 3 years now, and it's the only game i've kept playing through trials of EVE, EQ, WoW, etc. The PvE is great too, it has a very mystical feel to it since all the dungeons aren't such general knowledge like they are in bigger mmo's. You can own houses, castles, etc. The first levels are incredibly boring (lame looking gear, boring hunting, etc) but once you get into it and get into the higher levels, mage spells/melee class abilities get REALLy cool. so i think you should give it a try, it's definetly something fresh at the very least. and there's a free 15 day trial with no credit card info or anything needed (at least give it those 15 days).
here's a quote I found in an older thread about it...this guy put it better.
I used to play a game called Xenimus back in the day in between breaks of EQ, back then this game was free and was little known. Today it is even less well known as they charge a monthly fee (also i think they changed the graphics to 3D). The point is that that game was HARD. I mean to an extent that was not even seen in EQ. It was completely open PvP except for little safe squares in the middle of some towns, i think i even remember some corpse looting of some sort. Geifers in that game were EVERYWHERE. I mean you had to constantly be on your toes and be wise to carry multiple heal and haste potions on you, always ready to run. The game itself was based off of D&D rules and so only had 20 levels but i think there were only about 5 people at max level when i was playing. It was a sort of heroic thing to achieve. There were also dragons that flew over cities or the forests very rarely that actually had lairs and it was overall a very challenging but MAGICAL and MYSTERIOUS game. Now what made this game great was the community. Yes there were a lot of greifers but there were at least that many bountyhunters. People banded together to go kill PKers but the PKers also banded together to be safe. There was a PKer town where PKers went when they died and the guards in the towns would be KOS to them. so i guess you could say the game even catered to them. But to play a PKer was not easy at all. Oh and i think everyone in that game had a long list of people to watch out for but also a lot of people to contact if they did get PKed. People who formed guilds or grouped regularly really got close and formed strong bonds of friendship. I know i still talk to someone i used to play with on msn, and this was 4 years ago now. So i think the point is that this is a great idea, i mean its going to happen weather you plan for it or not so you may as well design the game with PKing or greifing in mind. anyway..

The pvp works like this. Its open pvp. You can pk anybody you want anytime and they WILL drop their inv/equip. but killing people will turn your status bar towards evil. To get back to good status you just simply kill monsters. The pvping consists of being invisible, teleporting all the time, using pots and just zapping and DISPELLING enemies buffs.
I havent played in over a year and i can say probably many things have changed since then that has improved the game...

Oh, my god. Thats the worst crap I have ever heard. I know people generally on these boards are stupid, but you serisously cant mean that. Why does peoples opinions count less if they have less posts? What is to say that they dont have a bunch of posts on other similar boards or even if they dont... why oh why should that matter? If its true, it officially makes this forum the worst in history. Or pretty close atleast.
Why in the hell do they have to be paid to advertise it? Never seen people post about games they like? Its called sharing the fun. Very few people plays the game, and its hard to find if noone tells you about it. Even if you want to play games like it.
I've also played the game. Its made by one person witch makes everything but the PvP suck. And the PvP is very intense and fun. Though I wouldnt want to start playing it now, I did play it for over 2 years from the very beginning.
edit: and if you were wondering why my postcount is low and was gonna ignore me, its because this forum dont support Opera and I usually cant be arsed to switch just to post.
Ok, Runescape graphics, outdated to heck, pay to play. Where do I sign up ? lol Sorry but this is painfully bad looking. When folks say graphics dont matter, they still expect something modern.
EDIT: It does have a free trial, which I respect, guess it wont hurt to try it.
It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.
Well i managed to make an account and my first hour has been like this:
There are 5 people on my whole server... no one will talk to me... and then this 1 guy has killed me like 20 times... over and over he just comes and kills me... if i run he zaps me with some spell... nothing i can do about it... Its right on the spawn pad too so i cant do anyhting.... not impressed so far. I spawn, I die.. as im typing this i probably died another 10 times.

Hardcore PVP != Gankfest;
A Work in Progress.

Now that was a fun game, back in the days when it was entirely FREE, there was only one world, FULL open PVP, no safe zones, FULL loot.
There was like 10 random pk's on the whole server, and they were extremely well known / hunted down.
Except for us mercenaries, that would kill anyone if the price was right!
Oops, going off track again... thanks for the heads up, will give the trial a go!
Well i joined the non-pvp server and it has 50+ people... and on that server i found 2 people to tour me around and help me... on the non-pvp server it looks like you switch to "attack all" and then u can kill people... not sure how it works... their is a safezone in the middle of town where people were runnign on and off nuking eachother.
Im lvl 7 so far.
